Mary Alice Smith Dies

Mrs. Mary Alice Smith, age 84, of the Little Bend Community in Battletown, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at her residence. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Parr-Frans Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, and after 9:00 AM on Sunday. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Walter F. and Iona Elizabeth Briles Adams; her husband, Lamar Smith; the rest of her siblings, Bill and Earl Adams, Arthur “Hoss” Conrad, Glenda Scott, and Janet Rice; and her very special friend on February 12 of this year, Rick Cissell. She is survived by her children, Francis T. (Tammie) Smith, Battletown, KY, Partricia D. (Robert) Gibson, Glasgow, KY; Rick’s children, Leona (Mike) Higbee, Leitchfield, KY, Missy (Mike) Hampton, Brandenburg, KY, Tammy (Walt) Kloeppel, Nashville, TN, Stacy (Lonnie) Brown, Jacksonville, FL; 12 grandchildren, Leighann Crean, Eric Smith, Jessica Pritchett, Joey Vibbert, Jeremy Allen, Tara Embry, Kirk and Cody Higbee, Tylar and Grace Matthews, Michael and Nicholas Brown; 12 great grandchildren, Brayden Smith, Bryce and Evelyn Crean, Sophie and Lydia Smith, Tristan and Drayden Lewellen, Michaela, Rhyan and Jayden Whelan, Ella Embry, and Kaelyn Higbee.

Hazel Marie Lambeth Briles

LEXINGTON Mrs. Hazel Marie Lambeth Briles, 97, of Cid Road, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Walters Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Chris Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the JC Green and Sons funeral home in Thomasville, and other times at the home of the son. Born on October 29, 1921 to the late David Lambeth and Maggie Grubb Lambeth in Davidson County. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Howard Briles in 1977; her infant son, David William Briles; three brothers, Benny Lambeth, Foy Lambeth, Grady Lambeth; and four sisters, Sally Gallimore, Ola Pierce, Beulah Pierce, and Minnie Anderson. Surviving are her loving son, Lawrence Briles and wife Helen of Lexington; her granddaughter, Candy Briles Gunnell and husband Kevin of Thomasville; her sister, Magdalene Lambeth of Denton; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Minnie Leigh McDowell Cranford

Minnie Leigh McDowell Cranford, 71, of Asheboro, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at Woodland Hill Center in Asheboro. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, and other times at the home of her daughter, Tammy Nixon.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. Jeff Joyce officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery. Born in Randolph County, NC, on May 25, 1947, Minnie was the daughter of the late Arthur Exton McDowell and Ocia Edna Small McDowell.  Surviving are her daughters, Tammy Nixon and husband, Jeff, of Franklinville, Charlotte Cranford, of Asheboro; sisters, Louise Lambeth, of Thomasville, Ora Clark, of Asheboro, Ruby Bristow, of Asheboro; brother, Fred McDowell and wife, Shelvia, of Castle Hayne; grandchildren, Megan Sexton, Aaron Nixon, Caleb Cranford, Rihanna Cranford; great grandchildren, Lakely Sexton, Whitley Sexton, and Kobe Clark.

Bernice Millikan Davis

Randleman – Bernice Millikan Davis, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2019 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Funeral services will be held 6:30 pm Monday, March 11, 2019 at Cedar Square Friends Meeting, with Ben Hurley and Michael Fulp, Jr. officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Mrs. Davis was born October 11, 1926 in Randolph County to the late Troy Watson Millikan and the late Blanche Pearce Millikan.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and five sisters. She is survived by her five children; Kay Coltrane (Branson) of Pleasant Garden, Janie Gray (Phil), Rita Mintmier (Tom), Jerry Davis (Kaye) and Terry Davis (Julia) all of Randleman; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; and one sister, Ina Lee White of Archdale.
