Vickie Lynn Briles, 71, of Bellville, Texas passed away December 9, 2023. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 5-7 PM. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Nelsonville Brethren Church. Brother Michael Groseclose and Pastor Mark Gonzalez will officiate. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Nelsonville.

Born September 5, 1952, in Houston, Texas to D.E. “Cotton” and Loris Briles. Preceding her in death were her parents, Cotton and Loris Briles; son, Matt Hensley, and son-in-law, Jason Elston.

She is survived by her daughters, Tina Hensley of Bellville and Mandy Elston of Katy, Texas. Her grandchildren Aidan Fenlon, Gage Wietstruck, Vann Lynn, Maddox Elston, Aubrey Elston, great grandson, Axton Fenlon, brother, Joe Briles and wife, Cherry; sisters, Sandra Merz and husband, Daniel, and Susie Sandefer and husband, Duane and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Mrs. Elizabeth (Lizzy) Kay Kindley Lilly, 61, of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Hospice Home at High Point. 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Mitchel Hayworth officiating.  Interment will follow in the Zion Church Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. 

She was born on November 1, 1962 in Davidson County, Denton, NC to Albert Clemon Kindley, Sr. and Dorothy Alline Miller Kindley.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer Midkiff; her brothers, Albert (AC) Kindley, Jr. and Darryl Kindley; and her step-son, Dakota Van Lilly.

On September 6, 2008, she married Rodney Van Lilly, who survives of the home; also surviving is her daughter, Ashley Midkiff (Johnny Todd); her sisters, Brenda Blanchard (Tommy), Barbara Riffe (Marcus), Sylvia York (Darrell), Irene Land, and Donna Tansey (Gerry); her brother, James Kindley; 6 grandchildren, Joe, Eve, Tyler, Destiny, Xavier, and Dakota; 1 great-grandson, Desmond; sisters-in-law, Linda Kindley and Tammy Snow; father-in-law, Van Lilly, Jr. (Linda); brother-in-law, Terry Lilly (Lori) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born to Hubert C and Hazel R (Barker) Gregson in Randolph Co., NC. She married Edward A Brown on August 22, 1950 in Conway, SC. Mr. Brown passed 4 Jul 2021

She is survived by her two children; Steve (Lynn) Brown and Lynette (John) Hudspeth; a brother, Clayton (Rebecca) Gregson; a sister, Marie Shoe; in-laws, Annie Lou Gregson, Charles Fields, and Elvin Gregson; two grandchildren, Carly (Hank) Howie and Mitchell Brown; two great-grandchildren, Houston and Kathryn Howie.

Van Garner Hoover, age 89, of Jamestown, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

A celebration of life service will be held from 4-6 pm, December 14, 2023 at Advantage Funeral and Cremation of Archdale.

He was born in Guilford County, NC on March 25, 1934, to Elmer and Luna Morris Hoover.

Van is survived by his son Ray Hoover and daughter Susan Simmons (Ron), three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betsy Hoover in 2011.

Michael Bailey Briles, 84, of Annapolis, MD passed away of heart complications on Monday, November 20, 2023. Born July 25, 1939 in Greensboro, NC to Clarence Ralph and Mary Ann Hill Briles.

A celebration of life will take place in summer of 2024 in Maine.

Michael is survived by his wife of 45 years, Hilary Briles; son Chritopher Briles and son-in-law Patrick Turner of Fort Worth, TX; son, John Briles and daughter-in-law Alicia Briles; and grandsons Lucas and Hunter Briles of Severna Park, MD.

NOTE: Mr. Briles is the 1st cousin of the curator of the BIN.

Born March 29, 1943, in Randolph Co., NC, Mr. Bunting was the son of the late Samuel and Clara Ozment Bunting.


In addition to his parents, Mr. Bunting was preceded in death by his sons, Billy Bryson, Ricky Bryson; brothers, Buck Bunting, Gene Bunting; sisters, Kat Kennedy, Ruby Parkin, Margie Palmer, and Faye Austin.


Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sisk Bunting of the home; stepdaughter, Lisa Tylicki of Asheboro; stepson, Mark Baker of Asheboro; sisters, Pansy Harrington (Barry), Sue Allen (Larry), Deb Murray (Johnny), all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Michael Tylicki, Tim Tylicki, Ashley Baker, Jesse Bryson; and his fur baby, "Buffy."

Service & Visitation: The visitation will be held at Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman (600 S Main) on Tuesday, 11/14 from 5:00-7:00 pm. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro (4538 US Highway 220 Bus N) on Wednesday, 11/15 at 11:00 am.

The daughter of Jefferson Harrison Rush and Nannie Roella Miller Rush, Lalah was born May 5, 1934, at home in Randolph County.

Preceded in death by her parents and her nine older brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Allen Millikan Bowman, of Sophia; two daughters: Debbie Bowman Thompson and husband Mike of Sophia and Beverly Bowman Hunt and husband Tom of Trinity; son, James Allen Bowman and wife Ginger of Sophia; grandchildren, Angela Renee Rowland and husband Mike, Michael Leroy Thompson II and wife Ashley, Lane Thomas Hunt and wife Dru, Morgan Hunt Bills and husband Carter, Lindsey Bowman Cooper and husband Ben, Robert Allen Bowman and wife Lauren, Brett Harrison Bowman, and Kristy Thompson Flowers ; 19 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, named Lalah.

Frances Evelyn Carrick Anderson, 82, of Randleman, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Asheboro Rehab and Health Care Center in Asheboro.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2023, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro, with Pastor Jim Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Kathy and Jamie Hayes.

Born November 5, 1940, in Davidson Co., NC, Mrs. Anderson was the daughter of the late Milas and Flora Pierce Carrick. 

In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Anderson, daughter, Patricia Kidd, and son, Clifford Hunt.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her daughters, Janet Allamadani of Greensboro, Susan Tysinger of Randleman, Kathy Hayes (Jamie) of Randleman; brother, Bryce Carrick of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and her beloved pet, Lucy.

Mrs. Anderson's great grandmother is Charity Briles Pierce.

Joyce Snider Young, 91, of Lexington, passed away October 17, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with Pastor Josh Rau and Rev. William Sowers officiating the service, burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends one hour before the service in the church fellowship hall.

Joyce was born April 27, 1932, in Randolph County, to David Harrison Snider and Algene Robbins Snider. Joyce. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her husband, Joe Bill Young who died June 13, 2023, a son, Bob Young, brother, David Snider.

Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Younts and husband Doug, of Lexington, Son, Mark Young and wife Donna of Danville VA. Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Megan Younts and Jacob Younts and wife Katelyn, both of Lexington: her sisters, Reva Young of Lexington, and Teresa Smith of Trinity.

onald Ray Albertson, 81 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Don was born in Trinity, March 3rd 1942, a son of the late Robert Glenn Albertson and Dorothy Robbins Albertson. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Hassell Albertson; two sisters, Lucille Ridge and Josephine Philbeck and one brother, Robert Albertson Jr.

Surviving is his daughter Donna Albertson and four sisters; Ann Hobson, Georgia Kinney (Garland), Shirley Probert and Frances White; two brothers, Frank Albertson (Jackie) and Bill Albertson (Kay); numerous nieces and nephews.

Frances Lee Pierce Tesh, 94, of Asheboro, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Bryant Madren officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Ridge Funeral Home prior to the service.


Mrs. Tesh was born July 15, 1929, in Randolph Co., NC, and was the daughter of the late Frank Melvin and Nancy Emily Peele Pierce.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Tesh was preceded in death by her husband, David "D.R." Tesh, Jr., her son Gary Tesh, her brothers, Raeford Pierce and Jack Pierce, and her sister, Allene Yow.

Born February 15, 1934, in Keithsburg, Illinois, the daughter of John and Alwilda Margaret (Orbenour) Briles.

 She married David Charles Lucian on June 24, 1961. Survived by her brothers, Paul Briles and Frank Briles; sons, Laurence Lucian and David Lucian Jr.; step-daughters, Marilyn (Don) Lucian Downing and Carolyn Lucian Faust; 6 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Kinsley Pleads No Contest to Murder, Will Serve 25 years


Devante C. Kinsley, 31, on June 21, 2023 appeared before Manatee County Circuit Judge Frederick P. Mercurio and pleaded no contest to second-degree murder of Michael Briles. Michael Briles was murdered during an armed robbery on Oct. 17, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida. The plea allowed Kinsley to avoid a first degree murder charge and potential life in prison. He will serve 25 years in prison.

Elizabeth was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Cramer Hunt, parents, Tennyson and Bertie Phillips Hunt, sister, Myrtle Kindley and brothers, Kenneth, Grady, Paul, Willard, Eugene, Larry, Jerry and Raeford Hunt.

Survivors: daughters, Carol Humble (Glenn), Deborah White (Larry), Vickie Gearren, Ginger Bryant, all of Asheboro, son, Dwight Hunt, of Asheboro, brother, Wesley Hunt, of Farmer, grandchildren, Anthony Humble (Melody), Renee Brady (Chris), Ryan Welch (Laura), Anna Newsome (Darren), Joshua Gearren (Taylor Chensy), Steven Bryant (Julie), fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.


It should be noted that Mrs. Hunt's father is Tennyson Wesley Hunt. The BIN has sources/proof that he is the son of Wesley H. Briles (Tennyson has his middle name). The story is that Wesley was killed in a saw mill accident in 1901 before Tennyson was born. Julia Hunt gave her maiden name to Tennyson because Wesley was killed before they were married.

Tedd was born September 27, 1966 to David Buren Daniels and Joann Kindley Loflin in Davidson County.

Richard Guy Small, 72, passed away August 12, 2023 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. He was born February 11, 1951 to Guy Marcus Small and Joy Ruth (Briles) Small.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 1-2pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main St in Randleman. Other times the family will be at the home of his mother, 605 Walter Meadows Rd, Randleman, NC. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 2 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel at Randleman with Reverend Ken McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Randolph County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.

Veteran of the US Army and served during Vietnam.

Jeffery “Jeff” Lee Briles, 66, Greentown, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday August 2, 2023, at Century Villa in Greentown. 

The family will be having an intimate graveside service on August 7,2023, where Military honors will be provided by the United States Airforce and the Greentown American Legion Post 317.

Born March 22, 1957, in Marion to Martha Maxine (Stackhouse) Briles. Veteran of the United States Airforce for 4 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Marjorie Stroup, and niece, Christina “Chrissy” Briles.

He is survived by his children Jeromy Briles, Jody (Ember) Briles, and Tiffany (Tim) Hitchcock; grandchildren, Tamara Berg, Isaac Briles, Emery Briles, Kenna Briles, Tinsley Hitchcock, and Tanner Hitchcock; great-granddaughter, Shyla Briles; siblings, Jim (Donna) Briles, Cindy (Dave) Smith, and John (Reggie) Briles; brother-in-law, Denny Stroup; sister-in-law, Jill Briles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family including his ex-wife; Teresa (Bob) Cauble.

He was born on May 5, 1941 in High Point, the son of the late Stanley and Esther Kearns Davis. US Army Veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; Nancy Cook Davis; his children, Julie Davis Smith and her husband, Allen and Joshua Davis and his girlfriend, Jessica Thompson; his grandchildren, Hailey Rae Smith and her husband Kade, Cody Davis and Reece Thompson.

Services will be held at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel, Ansted, WV, on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Randy Spurgeon. Family and friends may visit at the Chapel from 1:00 P.M. until time of funeral service. Internment will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, WV.

Born October 30, 1933 in Carbondale, WV, the daughter of Ralph Alvin Holmes and Parma Shaffer Cole, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Glen Briles and Terry Briles, a sister Evelyn Holmes Nash and brother Ralph Holmes, Jr.

Surviving, a daughter, Evelyn Briles; sons, David (Jan) Smith, Jack (Brenda) Smith, Michael (Vanessa) Smith, Gary (Bonnie) Briles, and Woody (Bobbie) Briles. She was grandmother to eighteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was born January 14, 1937 in Stinesville, Indiana to John Goble and Lydia Freeman Goble. 


Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Harold Briles; her son, Gregory (Debbie) Briles of Spencer; her daughter, Amanda Briles of Ellettsville; three grandsons, Ryan (Robina) Briles, Derek (Lesley) Briles and Austin (Marklee) Strunk; one great grandchild, Mavis Strunk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Lotus, twins, William and Freeman and Frank Goble.

Donnie Austin Welborn, 54, of Trinity, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Colonial Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Hollar officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service.


Born January 11, 1969, in Guilford County, he was the son of John Austin Welborn and Brenda Kinley Welborn both of Trinity.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancée, Aileen Penny of Trinity, daughters, Whitney Paige Welborn of Trinity, and Kylie Brooke Welborn of Florida; sister, Deborah Welborn Haynes and husband Ray of Trinity, grandchildren, Brady Hardy and Braxton Hardy; stepchildren, Robert Penny, Lauren Penny, Colin Erickson, Payton Erickson, and Jace Penny.

Kenneth L. Briles, 88, of Jeffersonville, Indiana passed away at his residence on June 3,2023.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kenneth was born on April 18, 1935 in Crawford County, Indiana to the late Ivan and Inez (Rainbolt) Briles.

Michael Scott Daugherty, 52, passed away Sunday evening, April 23, 2023 in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 28th in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Harford City. Burial follows in the Hartford City Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Apr. 27th and an hour prior to services on Friday, at the funeral home.


He was born in Killeen, Texas on November 5, 1970 to Michael D. and Wanda J. (Briles) Daughterty. On December 7, 2007 he married Jaylene A. (Pilcher) in Anderson, Indiana. Surviving, include his wife, Jaylene; his son, Dalton Scott Daugherty; daughter, Emma D. Daughterty; parents, Mike and Wanda Daugherty; his brother, Matt Daugherty and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary Eugene Hunt, age 66 of Denton, passed away April 18, 2023 at Atrium Health Hospital in Charlotte.

A service of remembrance will be held for Gary on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, 6737 Gravel Hill Rd, Denton, NC. Rev. Claudie Harrison and Robbie George will officiate.

A native of Randolph County, Gary was born July 9, 1956 to the late Kenneth and Trilla Harvell Hunt.

Gary leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years, Sheryl Hunt, daughter Sherry Jackson and her husband Mike, son Brian Hunt and his wife Barbara, grandchildren Noah and Gracie Gilliland and adoptive grandchildren; Lisa Jessica Kathryne, Cameron, Hunter, Parker and David. Cheryl Ann Mickelson, 66, of Plano, Texas passed Friday, March 31, 2023 after a battle with Parkinson’s and leukemia.

Cheryl was born on August 27, 1956, in Lubbock, TX to Whit and Evelyn Briles. Cheryl married Andy Mickelson in 1977.

Survived by her daughter Heather Mickelson, son Bradley (Meredith) Mickelson, grandchildren Eleanor and Nolan, and brother Terry Briles.

Gurney Calvin Hunt, 73, of Asheboro, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Mountain View Church of Asheboro, where he was a member, with Rev. David Hunt and Pastor Terry Linthicum officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born August 17, 1949, in Randolph Co., NC, Mr. Hunt was the son of the late Kermit and Albertha Thompson Hunt. In addition to his parents Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his grandson, Greyson Cowfer.

Survivors included his wife, Linda Dunn Hunt of the home; daughter, Amanda Cowfer (Scott) of Asheboro; stepson, Mike Hodgin (Jenny) of Asheboro; sisters-in-law, Barbara Lamb (Ed) of Asheboro, Lillian Dunn of High Falls; grandchildren, Peyton Cowfer, Katie Hodgin, Lydia Hodgin; and several cousins.

Mr. Charles “Woody” Elwood Welborn, 87, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Fairview United Methodist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Duane P. Corle officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45-1:45 PM at the church.

Born on September 24, 1935 in Davidson County to Dewey Lee Welborn, Sr. and Ocia Hughes Welborn. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey Lee Welborn, Jr., and Bobby Welborn; one sister, Doris Welborn Hayes.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Shelbie Clodfelter Welborn of the home; two daughters, Sandee Welborn Barker (John) and Jane Welborn Hicks; two grandsons, Matthew Barker (Kati) and Andrew Barker (Krystal); two great-grandsons, James and Jonas Barker; one brother, Joe Grooms. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members, along with his cat, “Miss. Kitty”.

ARCHDALE – Betty Ruth Kearns Wilson, 91, died Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Randolph Hospice Home.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 6, 2023, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the funeral home.

She was born June 27, 1931, in Guilford County and was the daughter of the late Emory and Blanch Folwell Kearns. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Betty is survived by her husband, James Arnold Wilson, whom she married on March 22, 1968; son, Philip “Phil” C. Wilson (Angie) of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Andrew Craig Wilson and Hannah Rose Wilson; brother-in-law, Darrell Wilson of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert “Ralo” Andrew Baham, age 53, passed away in his home in Franklinton, Louisiana, Monday, March 20, 2023.

Visitation will be held at Lee Hill Baptist Church (11001 Lee Settlement Road, Folsom, Louisiana) on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Robert’s wishes were to be cremated. 

Robert was born on September 22, 1970 in Covington, Louisiana to parents Dupree Jackson “Jack” Baham & Katherine Briles.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Wactor Baham, of 20 years and three children: Katelynn (Andrew) Brister, Victoria & Jesse. Granddaughter Gracelynn Brister. Parents Jackson & Katherine Baham, Father in law, Wayne Wactor, a sister, Erica (Michael) Cotton, and three brothers: Dennis (Jen) Brooks, Donnie (Jamie) Brooks, and Jonathan David. Also numerous nieces & nephews.

Proceeded in death by Grandparents Clarence & Fener Baham, Walter & Faye Briles and special Aunt Victoria.

Nora Lee Pierce Myers, of Altamonte Springs, Florida passed March 11, 2023, at her home.

A celebration of life service will be held at Gateway Baptist Church in Winter Park, Florida on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Bruce Mayhew officiating. A graveside service will be held on March 25, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting cemetery with Tom Spainhour officiating.

Nora Lee was born on August 22, 1929, in Randolph County, North Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Harvey Allen and Tressie Robbins Pierce. She married Paul Myers on September 22, 1951. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all twelve of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, J. Paul Myers, and her three children: Randy Myers of Altamonte Springs, Julia Johnston of New Hampshire and Paula Pylant (Allen) of Altamonte Springs. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Billy Johnston (Ivonne), Laura Banfield (Korey), David Myers (Robin), Daniel Myers (Brianna), Emily Myers, Spencer Pylant, Austin Pylant (Bethany) and Grayson Pylant (Gabrielle). She was survived by ten great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Lucia, Noah, Maryam and Nathan Johnston; Charley, Catherine and Jack Myers; Brooks Myers; and Olivia Pylant.
