Mary Briles Watford Dies

Mary (Mammy) Elizabeth Briles Watford, 96, passed Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 AM at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. John Hill officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 6 until 8 PM. Born in Davidson County, May 5, 1916 a daughter of Virgil S. Briles and Pansy Jordan Briles and was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. In 1941 she was married to Odell Jesse Watford who died in 1979. Surviving are two sons, Jesse Odell Watford and his wife Sherri and Eddie Briles Watford and his girlfriend Pam Jessup, both of Thomasville; two sisters, Dorothy Hunt and Virginia Snyder, both of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Tammy Blackburn and her husband Robert, Jesse O. Watford III, Julie Myers, Keith Watford, Megan Wood and her husband Travis, and Ashley Watford; fifteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Joe Watford, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Mathews, and a great-granddaughter, Katie Brown.

Kindell “KW” Briles Passes

Muncie – Kindell “KW” Briles, 70, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Acadiana Management Group Specialty Hospital after a long illness. No formal services. Mr. Briles will be cremated. Born September 3, 1942 in Crawfordsville the son of the late Clarence and Pauline (Wade) Briles. Preceded in death by sons, Darryl, and Daniel; his sister, Clarice Jo Briles; and a brother-in-law Wayne Jennings. Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Juanita; three daughters, Bridget Gilley(husband, Daryl) of Bladenboro, NC, Rachel Smith (fiancĂ©e, Aaron Dixon) of Gaston, and Faye Jennings-Hannah (husband, Dennis) of Muncie; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Willmann (husband, Steve) of Muncie; a son-in-law, Dwayne Smith of Ash, NC; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.


Marie White Callahan Passes

Marie White Callahan, 85, a resident of High Point passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013. A service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Pastor Keith Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Born September 12, 1927 in Guilford County, NC to the late Charles White and Bessie Hoover White. In addition to her parents preceding her in death were her husband; Raymond Callahan and 2 sisters; Beverly Atkinson, and Willa Mae Osborne Surviving are her daughters; Brenda Ford and her husband Johnny and Sheila Brown and her husband Todd all of Winston- Salem, Dale Armfield and her husband John and Karen Callahan all of Thomasville, her sisters; Doris Boyce and her husband Joe of High Point, and Charlene Dufrene of Las Vegas, NV, her grandchildren; Stephanie Zimmerman, Jeremy McDaniel, Jonathan and Lindsay Brown, John and Taylor Armfield, her great grandchildren; Kara McDaniel and Dalton Zimmerman.

Edna Pearce Heath Dies

Edna Pearce Heath, age 96, of Carolina Estates in Greensboro died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Balfour Baptist Church; Rev. Don Clement and Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro. Born in Randolph County on September 19, 1916 to John C. Pearce and Annie Bulla Pearce. Edna and husband Ross Elzy Heath, Jr. were married in 1939. In addition to her parents of Asheboro, Edna was predeceased by her husband Ross of Greensboro, son Michael Heath of King George, VA, brother John Pearce of Asheboro, and sisters Margaret Moody and Frances Burkhart both of Asheboro.  Survived by one son, John R. Heath and Eleanor of Jackson, NJ; grandchildren, Heather Heath of Cary, NC, Ian and Sarah Heath of Idaho, and Melane Heath Canupp and Brooke Canupp of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Jane Heath of King George, VA; grandchildren, Sherry Heath Mills and Nelson Mills of King George, VA, April Heath Parsons and Kevin Parsons of Richmond, VA, and Shannon and Suzi Heath of Virginia; 11 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucy P. John Alvin McDowell, 95, of Asheboro, NC, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at The Randolph Hospice House A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March, 19, 2013, at Pleasant Union Community Church with Rev. Danny Miller and Rev. Ken McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was the son of the late Eli Linville McDowell and Martha Trythenia Pierce McDowell. In addition to his parents, Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his sisters, Bernice Trotter, Exie Snider, Lois Staley; and brothers, Ira McDowell, Dallas McDowell, Rev. George McDowell and Pearl McDowell. Keith Randall Floyd 46, of Salisbury passed away suddenly at his home Tuesday March 12, 2013. A funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday March 16, 2013 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Friday at Davidson Funeral Home. Born February 1, 1967 in Davidson County to David Dermont Floyd and Lorriane Hedrick Sink. He was preceded in death by a brother Mike Floyd. Nancy Lucille Lanier Pierce, 90, passed Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Mountain Vista Health Park. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Derald Smith and Rev. James Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 to 2:00 at the church. Born on April 1, 1922 in Davidson County to Stephen Ashley Lanier and Celina Morris Lanier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hal Pierce in June 1998; a son, Larry Pierce in June 1999; a daughter, Jan Nadine Pierce; a grandson, Johnny Pierce in August 2002; a granddaughter, Jamie Lucinda Pierce; brothers, Ernest, Max, and Bob Lanier; and sisters, Alta Miller and Grace Harrison. Surviving is her son, Bobby Pierce and wife Martha of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Vonda Byerly and husband Brent and Kim Eason and husband Brian; and great-grandchildren, Brittany Pierce, Ashley Pierce Snowdon, Caylin Byerly, Jacob Byerly, Austin Eason, and Brandon Eason.

She was the daughter of the late Gurnie Thompson and Lillie Rich Thompson.; preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Hunt; brother, Woodrow Thompson; and sister, Emaira Shofe. Survived by son, Calvin Hunt and wife, Linda, of Asheboro, NC; granddaughter, Amanda Hunt, of Asheboro, NC; grandson, Michael Hodgin and wife, Jenny, of Asheboro, NC; and great granddaughter, Katie Hodgin, of Asheboro, NC.

Born on December 3, 1960 in Forsyth County to the late Charles "Barney" Meredith and Frances Chambers Hemrick. Surviving is his wife, Martha Briles Hemrick; son, Dustin (Angel) Hemrick; step daughters, Ellen (Lee) Lingerfelt and Bethany Collins; step grandson, Avery; unborn granddaughter, Isabella Claire; sister, Karen Watkins; brother, Charles M. Hemrick, Jr.; two special sister-in-laws, Rebecca Tuttle and Ruth (Jim) Martin; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Ruth and Bruce Topping, Donna and Robert Hughey, Marty Baucom, Spencer Evans and Tim Brittian.
