Ernest Walton Welborn Jr Dies

ARCHDALE-Ernest Walton Welborn, Jr. 89 of Archdale passed away Friday January 27, 2012 at Hospice Home of High Point. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday Jan. 30th at Archdale United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm with visitation starting 2 hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Born on October 4, 1922 to the late Ernest Walton and La Nora Rosiland Welborn. He is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and by his first wife Kathleen Laughlin Welborn who passed in 1977. Survived by his wife Lois Jones Welborn; two daughters: Susan Spell and husband Don and Rosiland Eller and husband Tom; two step children, Karen Jones and Randy Jones and wife April; three grandchildren Paige Hicks, Kathleen Fisher and Thomas Eller, four great-Grandchildren Madison Hicks, Thomas Grantham Fisher III, James Parham Fisher, Taylor Crawford Fisher.

Funeral services was held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the White House Forks Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Fred Stallworth and Rev. Herman Knapp officiated. Burial followed in the White House Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. Briles was the youngest of 12 children and was preceded in death by parents, Robert A. and Ida M. Briles; sisters, Mary (Ival) Roser, Lorretta (Leonard) Turner, Pearl (Robert) Williams, Viola (Jack) Shea, Erma Erickson, and Orean (Richard) Adams; brothers, Felix (Lena) Briles, Robert (Myrtle) Briles, Ivan (Josephine) Briles, Ted Briles, and “Bud” (Pat) Briles.

Virginia Ruth Pierce Hunt, 83, of Asheboro, NC, passed Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Randolph Hospital. Funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel; Rev. Jon Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Native of Randolph County, NC, born November 30, 1928; daughter of the late Robert Loranza Pierce and Leonia Kindley Pierce; preceded in death by her husband, Otis Hunt, her son, Stephen Hunt, and her sister, Annie Louise Cockerham. Survived by her daughter, Vickie Hunt, of the home, and her sister, Carolyn Hanner, of Asheboro, NC.

Sylvia Christine Hooks Hulin, 74, passed died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Hospice Home at High Point. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Myra Ward and Rev. Jack Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery. Born on January 25, 1938 in Davidson County to the late Lamont Hooks and Sylvia Sieglar Hooks; preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Hulin Jarrett, one brother, and one sister. On July 4, 1954, she married James Junior Hulin, who survives of the home; also surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Curry and husband Marvin of Trinity, Jamie Tucker and husband Lloyd of Thomasville, and Cindy Rose and husband Joey of Archdale; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Maxine Richardson White, age 74, of Sophia passed Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Charlotte United Methodist Church; Rev. Angel Christ and Rev. Steve Wood officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Asheboro, NC on July 18, 1937 to Grady Lee and Anna Bell McCain Richardson. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her brothers David and Bud Richardson. Survived by her husband, Bobby White; son, Greg White and his wife Terri of Sophia, NC; daughter, Rhonda White Williams and her husband Ronald of Liberty, NC; grandchildren, Lucy Williams, Owen White, and Tradd White; brother, Tom Richardson of Sophia, NC; sisters Doris Hill of Asheboro, NC, and Annie Lee Staley of Sophia, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery. Born April 15, 1917 in Randolph County to Roby Trotter and Nellie Tysinger. Married & preceded in death to Glenn C. Kearns who died May 24, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother George Trotter and a sister Martha Swaney. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dorothy Johnson "Dot" Green of Gainesville, FL passed Wednesday, January 18, 2012 after a long illness. A memorial service will be held in Thomasville, NC at a later date. Preceded in death by her parents Thomas Filmore and Edna Ritchie Johnson; her husband William Tate "Bill" Green who passed in 1995. Mrs. Green is survived by her sister and brothers: Helen Kennedy and Robert Johnson of Thomasville, NC, and Jim Johnson of Burlington, NC; 4 children: William T. Green 3rd of Houston, TX, Betsy Coleman, Barbara Finlayson, and Bruce Green of Gainesville, FL. Daughter-in-law Susan Green of Houston, TX, and sons-in-law Randy Coleman and Eddie Finlayson of Gainesville, FL. Donald Franklin Medlin Dies

Donald Franklin Medlin, 64 of High Point passed Tuesday, January 17th at his home. A memorial service to celebrate the life Donald Franklin Medlin will be held 2:00 pm Saturday in the Life Tribute Center of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point. The family will greet friends following the service. Born May, 20, 1947 in Guilford Co, Mr. Medlin is a son of the late Everett Medlin and Aries Pike Medlin. He was a veteran of the US Army. Survived by his life partner Pat K. Barnes and two children; Brett Medlin and wife Ann of Ft. Belvoir, Virginia and Eric Medlin and wife Christi of Ft. Worth, Texas. He is also survived by Pat’s children; Brian Barnes of High Point and Susan Barnes Sepe and husband Joseph of Palm Coast, Florida, seven grandchildren and a sister Crystal Medlin Curry and husband Allen of Thomasville and Ken Swaim of Thomasville, who had been like a son to him.

Naomi Pearl Briles, 79, passed away on Jan. 7, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at the Anderson Funeral Home in New Haven with Pastor Greg Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Cemetery. Born on Apr. 3, 1932 in Charleston, the daughter of the late Ezra M. and Ada I. Lawrence. Survived by her children, Corrina (Dale) Durst and Paul (Love) Briles; grandchildren, Diana, Amber, Andrew and Ezra; great grandchild, Zachary; brothers and sisters, William Lawrence, Charles Lawrence, Alberta Estep and Evalina McKenzie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Briles and sisters, Carolyn Akers, Millie Francis Green and Martha Lawrence.

Sloane Briles Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to Probation

Sloane Briles has pleaded guilty to assault on January 10, 2012. Briles, 35 and an ex-Marine, received three years probation and must report to rehab by the end of the week. If Briles fails to complete his six months in a Veterans Administration residential treatment program, he will have to serve six months in county jail for the felony count of child abuse and endangerment. Briles was charged with felony assault for tossing his 7 year old son off of a 42-foot tour boat in Santa Ana, California last August. Born in Randolph County on April 23, 1915 to Harris and Minnie Money Briles. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Summey, sons Wayne and Clayton Summey, and grandsons Randy and Tony Summey. Thomas Farlow Brown, 89, passed January 7th, 2012 at High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Spencer officiating. Mr. Brown will remain at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale until taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Born October 2nd, 1922 in Randolph County, a son to Charles L. and Genevieve Farlow Brown. In 1942 he married the former Dorothy Griffen who preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded by a son, L. Keith Brown and a brother, Dennis Charles Brown. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret B. Ray and husband Rev. Pat Ray of High Point and Evelyn B. Mosley of Charlotte; three sons, Samuel T. Brown and wife Teresa of Trinity, D. Michael Brown and wife Sharon of Trinity and Thomas F. Brown and wife Julie of Charlotte; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Clayton Wayne Hunt, 52, passed away December 31, 2011 in Davidson County, NC while cutting down trees. The tree fell on the tractor he was operating.
