Delmer Smith III Sentenced to Life without Parole!

BREAKING NEWS-Delmer Smith III has been sentenced to life without parole for the armed home invasion robbery and armed kidnapping in Sarasota County, Florida. Smith is also accused of 10 other home invasion robberies -- five in Manatee County and five in Sarasota County -- that took place between February and May 2009. Now the stage is set for a July 2012 murder trial involving Smith. He is accused of killing Kathleen Briles, wife of prominent doctor, Dr. James Briles of Florida. Smith could receive the death penalty if convicted. The BIN will continue to monitor the events in Florida!

Mary Etta Farlow Trotter Dies

Mary Etta Farlow Trotter, 96, of Asheboro, NC, passed Saturday, December 24, 2011, at her residence. Ffuneral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Mt. View Independent Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Hauk officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Native of Randolph County, Mrs. Trotter was born February 15, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Ed Farlow and Mattie Hinshaw Farlow. Preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Trotter, and sons, Kenneth and Ronald Trotter. Survived by, daughters, Patricia McDowell and husband, Gene, of Asheboro, NC, Mary Lou Barringer and husband, Zeb, of Trinity, NC, Martha Gordon and husband, Carl, of Lexington, NC, Bonnie Davis, of Sophia, NC; son, William “Sonny” Trotter and wife, Eula Mae, of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Juanita Kennedy, Wanda Parker, Bobby Barringer, Louise Parrish, Vicky Williams, Rodney Trotter, Brent Trotter, Ricky Trotter, Jeff Vestal, Brad Davis; step-grandchildren, Bill Davis, Jr., Lyle Davis; 14 great grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren.

Cecil Harmon Pierce Dies

Cecil Harmon Pierce, age 82, passed Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of his daughter: Rita Pierce Kinley, 2103 Stutts Road, Asheboro.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 10:00 AM at the Living Waters Baptist Church, 2376 Race Track Road, Sophia, NC 27350, with Rev. Wayne Pugh officiating. Burial will be follow at 1:00 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery, SalisburyBorn November 15, 1929 in South Port, Ohio, the son of Edmond and Elizabeth Sprouse Pierce; preceded in death by his wife: Joyce Ann Webb Pierce, Daughter: Toni Pierce, sister: Elizabeth Whitt and brother: Edward Pierce.
He is survived by two daughters: Vickie Pierce House and her husband, Don of Pleasant Garden, Rita Pierce Kinley and her husband, Terry of Asheboro, two sons: Larry Pierce and his wife, Sara of Swansea, S.C. and Danny Pierce of Sophia, NC; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one brother: Paul Pierce of Ironton, Ohio.

Nona Daniel Carrick Dies

Nona Daniel Carrick, age 90 passed Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Funeral service for Mrs. Carrick will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 29 at Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. James Cooper and Mr. Larry Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Baptist Church Cemetery. Born March 15, 1921 in Davidson County to William Clayton and Nina Snider Daniel. Preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Carrick on January 1, 1985 and two sons, C. L. Carrick, Jr. on Oct. 15, 2007 and Kim Lee Carrick on Dec. 5, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a sister Lala Williams and by brothers, Manley C. Daniel, Woodrow Daniel, Edd Daniel and W. C. Daniel. Survived by one son, Dennis Carrick and wife Gail of Charlotte; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Carrick of Denton and Robyn Loftin; grandchildren, Jeffrey Carrick of Huntersville and Lisa Buscemi and husband Scott of Charleston, SC; one brother Bert Daniel of Denton, two sisters, Dallas Snider and Nina Daniel Yates, both of Denton.

Carol L. Briles, 97, of Indianapolis, passed away December 22, 2011. Visitation will be held Monday, December 26, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Park Chapel, 9606 East Washington St. Burial to follow at Washington Park East Cemetery. Born March 18, 1914, in Fountaintown, IN., to the late Murray C. and Theodocia A. Farley Liming. Carol married Russell Briles, who preceded her in death in 1989. Survived by children, Robert and Miriam Briles.

Nancy Lee Hoover Fine Passes

HIGH POINT – Nancy Lee Hoover Fine died Thursday, December 22nd at her residence. A memorial service, to celebrate Nancy’s life, will be held at 2:00 pm Monday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with the Reverend Melvin B. Anderson officiating. Native of Guilford County, born September 4th, 1940 in High Point a daughter of the late Robert Samuel Hoover and the late Beulah May Dunlap. A brother Billy Hoover preceded her in death. On March 28th, 1959 she married George Wiley Fine who survives of the home. Also surviving are her sister, Shirley Hoover Barnes of Thomasville and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Earl Knight of Denton.

Stokes Everett Hepler Jr. Dies Today

The BIN has learned of the passing of Stokes Everett "Sonny" Hepler Jr. who died today at his residence. Hepler is the son of the late Stokes Everett & Glady's Hooker Hepler and was married to Loucellier "Lou" Dossett Smith who survives. The BIN sends it condolences to the Hepler family.

Stokes Everett "Sonny" Hepler, Jr., 69, passed Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in the Forsyth Medical Center. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 1 P.M. in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Born June12, 1942 in Davidson County, a son of Stokes E. Hepler. Sr. and Gladys Hooker Hepler. On August 18, 1962 he was married to Lu Smith, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a son Bart Hepler of Thomasville; a brother, Randy H. Hepler and wife Anne of Thomasville; step-mother, Jewell K. Hepler of Thomasville; step-sister, Sherry Nealey of Thomasville; step-brother, Randy Rollins and wife Sandy of Thomasville; a niece, Christy Thomas and husband Kevin and a great-niece and a great-nephew. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be directed to Hospice of Davidson County in Lexington, N.C. J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Steven Mitchell Briles Dies

The Briles Information Network has received late word of the passing of Steven Mitchell Briles who passed December 13, 2011 in Aumsville, Oregon. According to news reports, Briles either drowned or died of hypothermia in Mill Creek of Aumsville. Weddle Funeral Service in Stayton, Oregon handled the body, however no full obituary was posted there or in the local newspaper. Briles is the son of Guy Leroy & Lena Lori McTigert Briles. Delmer Smith III has been convicted of armed home invasion robbery and armed kidnapping in Sarasota County, Florida. The jury took less than an hour to convict the thug of the charges which should bring a life sentence. The sentencing hearing will begin on December 28, 2011 in the same courtroom. The conviction stems from a March 14, 2009 incident where Smith robbed and kidnapped Nicole Mitchell in her home. Smith is also accused of 10 other home invasion robberies -- five in Manatee County and five in Sarasota County -- that took place between February and May 2009. William Jordan, Jr., age 87, of Asheboro passed Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Randolph Hospice House. Mary Frances Briles, 74, of Corydon, passed Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. Funeral services were Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Glenn Hughes and Brother Vince Garmon officiated. Burial was in Potato Run Cemetery near Corydon. Born September 5, 1937, in Louisville, to the late James Edward and Mary Buelah Mattingly Houghlin. Preceded in death by her husband, Vernon R. Briles and her brother, Jim Houghlin. Survivors include her son, Daniel Briles of Corydon; her daughters, Anna Kinker of Elizabeth, Cindy Novak of Marengo and Rebecca Hughes of Corydon; her brother, Pat Houghlin of Borden; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
