Terri Kay (Ranard) Briles


Terri Kay (Ranard) Briles, 68, of Bloomington, IN passed away on December 23, 2022 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2022 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Visitation will be Thursday, December 29, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.

Born April 14, 1954 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Norma J. (Swafford) Ranard. She married Kevin Briles on October 29, 2005 in Bloomington, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Terri is survived by her husband, Kevin, her children; James Ranard, Brandi (Shawn) Langley, Travis Briles, Josh Briles and Mackenzie (Trey) Smith; five grandchildren; Shawn Austin Langley, Nickolas Langley, Brenna Langley, Katelyn Nichols and Ryan Langley and two great grandchildren, Jackson Langley and Garrison Langley; a brother, Bobby Jay Ranard; three sisters, Sue Carpenter, Judy Sullivan and Becky Taylor.

Mrs. Donna Kay Hulin Mabe, (Nana), 73, a resident of Bonnie Regan Road, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends on Tuesday prior to the service from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
She was born on September 13, 1949 in Davidson County, NC to Henry and Addie Hulin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Stephan (Steve) Mabe on February 7, 2016, whom she married on August 12, 1966; her brother, Robert (Bud) Hulin; and her sister, Gladys Hulin Brown.
Surviving is her son, Keith Mabe and wife Kristy of High Point; and her two grandchildren, Kalin Mabe and Kadie Mabe.

John Lee Edwards Dies, His Wife Betsy Briles Survives


John Lee Edwards, 64, of Asheboro, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter Kristen Edwards. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery.

Mr. Edwards was born on July 26, 1958 in Randolph County to the late Arnold and Gladys Yow Edwards.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his brother, Frankie Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Briles Edwards of the home; daughters, Beverly Edwards Blalock (Chris) of Asheboro, Kristen Dawn Edwards (Chris) of Asheboro; sister, Shelby Smithwick of Poquoson, VA; grandchildren, Christopher Blalock, Kayla Ann McGuine, Kaylee Elizabeth Fultz, and Carter Matthew Fultz.

Gene “Papa” Larry Briles

Gene “Papa” Larry Briles on December 8, 2022, in his home.

Gathering at Viegut Funeral Home at 1616 North Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, Colorado on January 6th from 11am to 1pm. Military honors will begin at approximately 11:30am. In the spring Mr. Briles will be buried in the family plot outside Leroy, Kansas, next to his father, Max and brother, Wayne.

Gene was born in 1947 to Max and Mildred Briles in San Bernardino, California on March 15th. Veteran of the US Army, he married Hazel Jean Piatt in September of 1967, which later ended in divorce in November 1989.

He was survived by his two children Becky and Eric, his grandchildren Hope and Domenic, and his mother, Mildred and sister, Diana.

Rose Marie Briles, 85, wife of Ross Briles, passed away on December 8, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center. Born August 29, 1937 in Burleson County, Texas to Jasper and Lillie Arnold. Marie is survived by her husband, Ross Briles, of 63 years, children, Cheryl and Alethea Jan, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her sister Laura. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in their Riverside Chapel at 10 am.

Peggy Joyce Kindley Smithwick

ASHEBORO- Peggy Joyce Kindley Smithwick, 85 of Asheboro, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022 at the Randolph Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held for Peggy on Friday December 16, 2022 at the Midstate Cremation & Funeral Service chapel. A time for the service will be announced next week. 

A native of Randolph County, Peggy was the daughter of the late Ora Mae Kindley.

Surviving, two sons, Jeffrey and Steven Craig Leonard, sisters, Francis Moody and Cecelia Redd, three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

HARTFORD CITY – Judith “Judy” Charlene Elliott, 85, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Calvary Christian Lighthouse Church, 2101 N. Walnut St., Hartford City. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at the church.

She was born in Marion on February 26, 1935 to Lawrence Briles and Leona Mae (Fisher) Briles. Her parents preceded her in death. Judy married Robert D. Elliott on January 27, 1957 at Apostolic Faith Church in Jonesboro. He passed away on April 13, 2018. She is also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Deelisa Owens and siblings, Robert Briles, Clayton Briles, Walter Harold Briles, Alfred Briles, Ronald Briles and Martel Briles. 

Surviving are her children, Cindy K. (husband, Robert “Tim”) Hatton of Hartford City, Kevin D. Elliott of Eaton and Jim (wife, Tammy) Owens of Marion; sister-in-law, Debbie Elliott; grandchildren, Robby (wife, Minna) Zirkelbach, Jody (husband, Al) Ford, Beth Higginbotham, Kimberly (husband, Kyle) Pitts, Erin Rae (husband, Nate) Bechtold, Mollie M. Elliott, Jamie (husband, Aaron) Robinson, Stephanie (husband, Steven) Lahr and Kimberly (husband, Clint) Freet; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Stacey Lynn (Sprunk) Briles, age 54 of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Pella Regional Health Center. The daughter of the late James A. and Betty A. (Stachura) Sprunk, Stacey was born on December 1, 1967, in Columbus, Nebraska.

Those left to honor her memory include her devoted husband, Brian; her two beautiful children, Brooke Meredith and Brody Dean; as well as her favorite office assistant, Bandit Theodore; her mother, Betty Sprunk; mother and father-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Briles; siblings Tod and Lenette Sprunk and Darci Reinke all of Columbus, Nebraska; Kurt and Alicia Briles of Monroe. Stacey adored her nieces and nephews, Dillon and Jacob (Brooklyn) Sprunk, Alli and Brandon Reinke and Joslin and Kinsley Briles as well as her many aunts, uncles and cousins of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her father Jim Sprunk.

ARCHDALE - Mr. Scotty Craig Pierce, Sr., 51, resident of Archdale, died as a result of a violent crime on October 11, 2022 at his home.

Scotty was born December 27, 1970, at High Point Hospital, a son to the late Carl Van Pierce Sr. and Bonnie Hunt Pierce Keck. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Keck; father, Carl Pierce; and stepfather, Danny Keck.

Surviving is his daughter, Hayley Allison Pierce of Raleigh; son, Scotty Craig Pierce Jr. of Raleigh; sister, Terri Pierce of Trinity; and brother, Van Pierce (Paige) of Trinity. 

Mr. Pierce's great great grandmother is the late Elizabeth Rebecca Briles Robbins.

Therian Ray Brookshire, 87, of High Point, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Westchester Manor.

Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Wallace Brookshire; sons, Billy Brookshire and Terry Brookshire and two grandchildren.

Born Veterans Day, November 11, 1934, in Guilford County, he was a son of the late Clifford Brookshire and the late Leona Pierce Brookshire. 

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Brookshire and wife Jenn of Lexington; daughter, Susan Robertson and husband Randy of High Point; sisters, Linda Canter of Sophia, and Becky Outen of Asheboro; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James William Key, 66, of Asheboro, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

James was born on September 25, 1956 in Randolph County to the late Brady Martin Key and Margaret Briles Key. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Key of the home; daughter, Jamie Callicutt (Darryl) of Franklinville; sons, Kevin Key of Asheboro, Mitchell Key (Cheryl) of Trinity; sister, Virginia Foust; brothers, Phillip Key, Roger Key; grandchildren, Riley Key, Gavin Key, Brody Key, Summer Callicutt, Chloe Callicutt; and close family friend, Ramon Torres.

Douglas Clifford “Doug” Briles, age 51 of Woodridge, passed away on September 22, 2022.

Mr. Briles is the son of Clifford and the late Florence Ruchalski Briles.

Andrea Kay Briles Willis, age 72 of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Mrs. Willis was born in Randolph County on December 8, 1949 to Joseph and Mozelle Lucas Briles. In addition to her parents, Andrea was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Rich" Willis.

She is survived by her brother, Don Briles (Cathy) of Trinity; step children, Melissa Willis of Greensboro, Jessie Willis of Mooresville, Tim Willis (Lisa) of High Point, and Amanda Willis (Adam Fongemin) of Greensboro; 3 step grandchildren; and many loving cousins and close friends.

Kenneth Wayne "Trigger" Briles, 76, passed away September 22, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

His life will be celebrated on Sunday, October 9 at New Life Family Fellowship at 2PM, located at 1354 E. Allred St, Asheboro, NC 27203. His family will welcome friends with refreshments in the fellowship hall following the service. The family will have a private interment at Salisbury National Cemetery on Monday, Oct 10, 2022 with full military honors (US Air Force).

Mr. Briles is predeceased by his parents Benjamin & Lucille Briles Yarberry. He is survived by his wife Phyllis “Shug” Briles, his sons Ken Briles Jr. (Christina) and Ryan Moore (Kristine), and the sparkles of his eyes, grandchildren Hannah Briles and Case Moore.

THOMASVILLE – Dalton “Wayne” Hepler, age 77, died on September 6, 2022. He was born in Davidson County, NC, on February 13, 1945, to Fred Reece Hepler and Ellen Skeen Hepler. His parents preceded him in death.

Robert “Bob” Edward Ridge, 85, of Thomasville passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Tiffany Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Bob was born February 14, 1937 to the late Robert Wade Ridge and Vivian Kiger Ridge in High Point. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Gaddy, Bettie Robertson; a brother, Kenneth Ridge.

Helen Gregson passed at Morningside of Raleigh on August 28, 2022. Interment will be at Randolph Memorial Park. Per Helen’s wishes, there will be no memorial service.

 She was born April 26,1939 in Randolph Co., NC to Hubert and Hazel (nee Barker) Gregson. She was the 11th of their 12 children.

Married to John G Miller. They were married from 1963-1970.

Surviving are brother Clayton Gregson and wife, Rebecca; sisters Ola Brown and Marie Shoe; brother-in-law Charles Fields, and sisters-in-law Annie Lou and Elvin Gregson, nieces and nephews.

Lawrence Dee Briles, Jr., age 90, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Larry was born January 30, 1932 in Marion, Indiana the son of Lawrence D. Briles, Sr. and Virginia Ellen Briles.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Briles; daughters, Julie Hawkins (Bill) of Mount Vernon, OH and Amy Briles of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Michael Grosh and Danielle Wilkinson (Michael); great-grandson, Freddy; sister, Beverly Parks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Elizabeth Briles.

Margaret Ann Davis, 90, of Greenville, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Signature Healthcare in Bowling Green.  

Graveside services will be Friday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville with Rev. Barry Noe officiating. 

Born June 24, 1932, in Graham, the daughter of Orvil Lindel Briles and Gladys Christine Vinson Briles.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years Paul Edward Davis in 2012, her son Larry Wayne Davis in 2017, her daughter Paula Diane Christie in 2021 and her grandson Trent Christie in 2012.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Davis; a daughter, Krista McLaughlin; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Birdie Joan Malone, age 89, of Liberal, Missouri passed away July 14, 2022, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lamar, MO.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Shiloh Cemetery in Liberal, Missouri.

Birdie was born July 11, 1933 in LeLoup, Kansas to Theodore Briles and Carlyn (Thornton) Briles. On August 14, 1953, Birdie married Harold Edward Malone Sr. in Independence, Kansas.

Survivors include one sister, Viola (Douglas) Cline; 13 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, one grandchild and one brother.

Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.

Margie was born on December 21, 1931, to Walter and Grace (Sage) Cozad the Albia Hospital. Margie married Richard Briles on March 7, 1948, in Ottumwa who passed on December 18, 1986. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Briles; her parents, Walter and Grace Cozad; siblings, Edna Fanta, Martha (Bill) Malone, Darlene “Eunice” Mangello, Betty Reno, Lester Cozad, James Cozad, Roy Cozad, Billy Cozad, Louise Shipman, Floyd Cozad, Donald “Cozy” Cozad, and Bernice, Barbara, and Marcella in infancy.

Margie is survived by her grandchildren, Mindy McBride and Michael Briles and a sister, Geraldine Speilman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, including a special great niece, Sarah Thomas.

Robert Thomas "Bobby" Walker Jr., 81, of Moneta, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. 

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 3, 2022, in the Avoca Museum Lawn by the Rev. Brady Willis with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.

He was born on September 17, 1940, in Campbell County, a son of the late Robert Thomas Walker Sr. and Essie Briles Walker. U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Faye; a son-in-law, B.J. Kavanaugh; and a brother-in-law, Aaron Dalton.

He was the husband of Judy Mattox Walker for sixty years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Renee Markey (Jim), Judith Hedgpeth (Todd), Amanda Walker, and Marie Kavanaugh (Neil); one sister, Nancy Walker Dalton; nine grandchildren, Lynsey Schneider (Zach), Andrew Markey (Melanie), Lauren Amy (Erik), Jourdan Walker (Ben), Benjamin Hedgpeth (Estefania), Ryan Hedgpeth, Sarah Hopkins (Adam), Walker Kavanaugh, and Carson Kavanaugh; and five great-grandchildren, Rilynn Schneider, Ivan Schneider, Harrison Hedgpeth, Lilian Markey, and Bennett Amy.

Benjamin Franklin Crotts, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 21, 2022 at 93 years of age. 

A service to celebrate Ben’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Prentis Harris. A graveside service will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

He is survived by a son, Joey Crotts (Deborah), and 3 daughters, Brenda McAdams (Jimmy), Gwen Cole (Larry), and Sharon Arnold (Randy). He has 5 grandchildren, Jim McAdams, Nathan McAdams, Jeremy Cole, Brittney Lambert, and Jonathan Crotts; 7 great-grandchildren, Chase, Kenna, Brantley, Jameson, Sam, Jacen, and Elizabeth. His late parents were Benjamin Franklin Crotts and Virginia Lucinda Miller Crotts. He was predeceased by his brother, Bobby Crotts, and sister, Lucille Summey. Also surviving is his sister, Rosa Lee Garren.

Harrell Rolan Hamilton, age 71, of Asheboro, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022. 

The family will receive friends Friday, June 24, 2022 from 6:00-8:00pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 11:00am at First Christian Church, 1381 Church Street, Ramseur, NC with Pastor Garry Arnett, Phil Cook, and Dr. Brandon Powell officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Harrell was born on September 15, 1950, in Randolph County to John Earl Hamilton and Ila Mae Bunting Hamilton, the youngest of eight children. Veteran of US Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Hamilton, and his sister, Norma Lewallen. 

Harrell is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria Henderson Hamilton; son, Danny Scott Hamilton; daughter, Sharon Hamilton Wallace and her husband, Jeremy; grandchildren, Preston Scott Hamilton, Taylor Colleen Wallace, and Dakota James Wallace, all of Asheboro; siblings, Stephen (Kay) Hamilton of Kernersville, Jerry (Elaine) Hamilton of McLeansville, Rev. Mrs. Jane Summey Swaim, age 84 of Ross Wood Road, Trinity, NC died Sunday, June 12 at Hinkle Hospice House.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 16, 2022 at High Rock Baptist Church, with Rev. Junior Summey officiating. Burial will follow in Pierce’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The Swaim family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Ross Wood Rd., Trinity.

Mrs. Swaim was born August 4, 1937 in Randolph County to Samuel Summey and Elsie Briles Summey. She was married to John William Swaim who preceded her in death.

She is survived by daughters, Vanda Hoover and husband Ronnie of Trinity; Joni Routh and husband Fred of Sophia and Misti Prevatte and husband Doug of Asheboro; grandchildren, Brandon Hoover and wife Carrie of Rogers, Ark., Brent Hoover of Asheboro and Dylan Prevatte of Trinity; step-grandchildren, Anthony Routh and wife Erin of Greensboro and Chad Routh and wife Nicole of Asheboro; step-great-grandchildren, Sadie, Lila Ray, Giavonna, Madison, Emma and Raelyn.

Larry Quinton Kindley, 73, of Asheboro, passed away, Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Randolph Heath in Asheboro.

A native of Randolph County, Larry was born November 21, 1948, to the late Quinton Kindley and Monnie Spencer Kindley Caviness. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Kindley Brady.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; son, Quinton Kindley (Jessica) of Asheville; daughters, Lynnette Kindley (Robert) of Asheboro, Kimberly Wolffis (Chuck) of Asheboro, Traci Andrews (Scott) of Asheboro; and grandchildren, Justin, Jasmine, Blake, Hannah and Laurel.

Mary Lou Phillips Dies, Mother is Frances Briles Christensen

Mary Lou Phillips, age 78, of Anita, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at her residence under the brief care of St. Croix Hospice. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA, with full military honors from Iowa Military Funeral Honors and Anita Color Guard Post 210. 

Mary Lou Christensen was born November 6, 1943, to parents Arlo and Frances (Briles) Christensen. She was the last surviving of six children. She married to Jerry Hoyer in 1978 and Larry Phillips in 2003. She is survived by her husband Larry Phillips, children Tamara McCarron (Dennis) and Wade Little (Jodi), grandchildren Mark, Elizabeth, Kevin, Kailey, Brittany, and Colleen, and great-grandchildren, Avalon, Gregory, Kia, Isaac, and Isaiah. 

She was preceded in death by daughter Vicky Lee Little, husband Jerry Hoyer, parents Arlo and Frances Christensen, and siblings Margaret Marnin, Mardyll Fries, Marlene Strauss, and David Christensen.

Betty Jane Spencer Carter Dies

Mrs. Betty Jane Spencer Carter, 74, resident of Trinity, died May 25, 2022 at her home.

Betty was born April 4, 1948 in Guilford County, a daughter to Grayson L. and Arlene Brookshire Spencer. In 1996 she married Von Carter who survives of the residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Also surviving are two sons, Chuck Byrum and Michael Byrum both of Trinity; three step sons, Randy Carter (Destiny) of Liberty, Rodney Carter, and Jesse Carter (Sarah) of Trinity; a half-sister, Alice Lee; two grandsons, Joe and Jeffrey; and her former daughter-in-law, Joann Byrum of Greensboro.

Howard Lessley Watson

Howard Lessley Watson passed May 14, 2022. A memorial service for both Howard and Barbara is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Benedict Haid Farm, Clendenin, WV from 1 - 5 p.m. Burial will be at Elk Hills Memorial Park.

He was born August 25, 1935 in Dehue, Lincoln County West Virginia to the late Lambert Woodrow and Mable Briles Watson. Howard was preceded in death five months ago by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Lee Young Watson, his brother in law, Gene Elwood Knapp.

Howard is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Lee Watson Jarvis (Ryan) and his grandsons, Brady Harrison Jarvis and Grant Alexander Jarvis all of Summersville. He is also survived by his sister, Yvonne Knapp, of Greenville, SC, his brother, Larry Keith Watson (Sherry) of Morehead City, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard H. Mullenix Dies, Married to Karen Briles


Richard H. Mullenix, 75, Fowlerton, passed away at 7:53 pm on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Marion Health. The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 2 pm on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Richard's life will begin at 2 pm with Pastor Curtis Rhoadarmer officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery at a later date. 

He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, February 14, 1947, to Thomas and Erma (Marshall) Mullenix. On June 12, 1970, he married Karen Briles, and they shared nearly 52 years together until she passed away on January 3, 2022. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. 

Survivors include his son, Kelly (Jennifer) Mullenix of Fowlerton; daughter, Lori Mullenix of Marion; grandson, Derek (Samantha) Barksdale, Kiler Mullenix, and Zachary Spence; granddaughters, Haley Mullenix, Summer Spence, and Lilianna Mullenix; great-grandson, Jonathon; great-granddaughter, Adrienne; brother, Thomas Robert Mullenix, II; sister, Martel Martin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Marilyn Huston, Cecilia Smith, and Thomasina Wyninger.

Virgie Lee Parrish Kennedy, age 85, of Thomasville, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022. 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 10am at Sechrest-Davis Funerals of Thomasville; Pastor Michael Bowers officiating. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Virgie was born October 7, 1936 in Thomasville, NC to the late Howard and Bessie Cody Parrish.

Virgie is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Albert Ephraim Hayes, Jr.; second husband, Lee Byrd Kennedy; her son, Ronnie Leon Hayes; three brothers, Alton, Austin and Bruce Parrish; and sister, Marie Embler.

Virgie is survived by her daughters, Carol Dianne Workman (Rickie) and Barbara Ann Kuykendall (Daniel); four grandchildren, Christopher Beal, Stacey Simmons, Shannon Hayes and Michelle Miller; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Lois Bailey (Oscar, Jr.); and her beloved animal companion, Beast.

Darlene Scell Briles, 63, of Gastonia, NC, died on Wednesday, April 27th 2022.

The family will receive friends at the home of Dean and Karen Wheeler on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 from 4 pm-6 pm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Scell; her father, Gene (Red) Wheeler; mother, Doris Whitley Wheeler; and one grandchild.

She’s survived by her children, Johnny Stowe and Nancy Stowe Chabut; siblings, Dean Wheeler and Doris (Net) Coffman; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Briles was married to Ronald Dale Briles.


Dale Wayne Summey Died



Mr. Dale Wayne Summey, 56, a resident of East Old Hwy 64 passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 at his residence.  By his personal request Mr. Summey will be cremated.

He was born May 1, 1965 in Randolph County, NC, the son of the late Wayne Summey and Willa Mae Wright Summey. 

Surviving are, one son, Dustin Shane Summey of the home; one daughter, Felisha Gale Harrison of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Layken Gillis, Keelyn Kissee, and Taylen Hulin.

'Thomas A Peeper' has arrived at the Kansas City Film Festival International! Filmmakers Bill Briles and his wife Aleta Doroudian Briles are set to debut their flick today, April 28, 2022 at 4:05 CDT. 

The narrative, taken from the festival itself states "In a five-day period, Modesty Divine’s life becomes entangled in disastrous ways with her new eccentric gardener Thomas, which includes the apparent accidental death (or murder) of her soon-to be ex-husband Ash."

The flick is 83 minutes in length and if you catch this post, 'Thomas A Peeper' is playing at the AMC Ward Parkway Theater 4!!! This is either the fifth or sixth feature film in the dynamic duo's career in filmmaking! Others include, First Shoot the Lawyers, Romance at Frisky's Bar, A "Private Dancer" in Mom's Kitchen" and in pre-production, My High School Girlfriend, Your Wife..."

Roger Brantley Smith, Sr., 87, of Asheboro, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his home.
 
Mr. Smith will lie in repose from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Science Hill Friends Meeting with Rev. Brady Morrison and Rev. John Porter officiating.
 
A native of Randolph Co., Roger was born on January 4, 1935 to the late William Frank Smith and Irene Strader Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Roger Smith, Jr.; brothers, Frank Smith, Jr., Garland Smith, Richard Smith, Archie Smith; and sister, Peggy Briles. Roger is survived by his wife, Doris Briles Smith; daughter, Laresa Ann Davis; sister, Doloris Briles; grandchildren, Katie Smith, Tyson Davis, Clint Smith, Treva Gates; and great grandchildren, Henry Smith and Ruby Gates.

The Briles Information Network has completed the updates for two cemeteries in Randolph County, North Carolina. The BIN transcribed and photographed each cemetery dating back to 2005, 2009, 2019, and 2022. The BIN is working on a script to indicate if someone buried in the cemeteries is related to the Briles Surname, other than the obvious. Next up on the list is Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Randolph County, NC.

Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery
is located at 2661 Ross Wood Road Trinity, Randolph County, North Carolina. We completed the survey on April 15, 2022. 350+ memorials have been added to the listing, however there are some grave sites that aren't marked. This church is still active with the lastest burial in March, 2022, Dennis Lynn Tester. The Briles Information Network is currently working on a documentary on this cemetery, courtesy of Video Impressions, a subsidiary of the BIN.

Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery,
formally a United Methodist Church, is located at 4713 Cashatt Rd in Trinity, Randolph County, North Carolina. We completed the survey on April 20, 2022. 380+ memorials have been added to this listing and like above, there are many unmarked grave sites. My great, great grandparents Joseph Lafayette & Roxana Spencer Briles are buried at Mt. Pleasant. This is an active church with the latest burial on April 20, 2022 (Wiley Craig Hunt).

Norma Jean Floyd Dies, Her Grandmother is Fatima Briles Floyd

TRINITY – Norma Jean Floyd, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at High Point Medical Center.

Graveside service celebrating Jean’s life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Hopewell United Methodist Church Columbarium with Pastor Josh Barnes officiating. The family will speak with friends immediately following the service.

Jean was born May 16, 1936, in Trinity and was the daughter of the late Cicero and Lula Williams Floyd.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Floyd, Ruth Royals, Helen Robbins and Kathleen Hill; and four brothers, Paul Floyd, Cicero “Ham” Floyd, Howard Floyd and Charlie “Beeson” Floyd.

Jean is survived by her son, Thomas “Tom” Floyd of Trinity; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Brower of Asheboro; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Wolcott, IN- Mark Edward Holder, 62, of Wolcott, passed Tuesday April 19th 2022 surrounded by family. Friends may call from 2-5 PM (EST) Saturday April 23rd 2022 at the Wolcott Christian Church. Funeral service will follow directly after at 5pm at the Wolcott Christian Church. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Born August 3 1959 in Lafayette, IN to the late Ralph and Mary (Briles) Holder, who survives.

Surviving Mark is his wife Debbie (Poore) Holder of Wolcott (m: September 2, 1978); children, daughter Karena (Zach) Price of Remington and daughter Karie Jo Holder of Wolcott. Grandchildren, Kaden (fiancé Havannah Willams), Wesley Price, Keegan Holder Bella Price, Zoie Price and Juvens Price; mother Mary (Briles) Holder of Fowler, IN; brother Jeff Holder of West Lafayette, sister Kim Holder of Fowler IN, sister Lisa (Chet) Green Warsaw OH, brother Mike (Mary) Holder Remington IN and Dwayne Holder Fowler IN. Many Uncles and Aunts Nieces Nephews also survive him.

Preceding Mark in death is his father, Ralph Holder, grandchildren Haden &Jaden, Finley, Sloan, Avery, Holden & Hunter and Scarlett Price; nephew Zachary Glen Holder; father and mother in law Alvis and Betty (Clark) Poore; grandparents Glen and Martha (Lang) Briles and Roy and Delores (Hall) Holder.

Charles William Briles, Jr., 94, of Archdale, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his home.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Randolph Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Elton Wilburn officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.
Born August 28, 1927, in Randolph County, he was a son of the late Charles W. Briles and the late Mary Brown Briles.

Charles is survived by his sons, Dr. Charles Briles, III and wife Dr. Aleta Briles of Arizona, and Rev. Mickey Briles and wife Deana of Archdale; brother, Darrell Briles and wife Lovetta of Sophia; sister, Eva Jay Farlow of Florida; and grandchildren, Colton Briles and Caroline Briles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Smith Briles.

Lynda Jernigan Briles

Lynda Jernigan Briles, 68, passed away April 5, 2022. Services for Lynda will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Southcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors. A small visitation will be held before the service starting at 12:00 pm.

Born December 23, 1953, in Lubbock to Willian Henry & Helen LaFern Jernigan. In June of 1974, she married Bruce Wayne Briles in Lubbock who passed in 1987. 

Surviving are her son, Eric Briles of Lubbock; her brother, Ronald Dean Jernigan of West, TX; two sisters, Jacquline Ann Murphy of Lubbock, Barbara Helen Gross of Wolfforth.

Rusaline “Rusty” Briles Cassidy, 83, of Trinity, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at Hospice Home at High Point.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Friday, April 15, 2022, at Holly Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Tony Moore officiating.

Born August 18, 1938, in Davidson County, she was a daughter of the late Russell Briles and the late Zola Summey Briles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Buddy” Cassisdy, grandson, Russell Marshburn; brothers, Lee Briles and Marion Briles, sister, and Imogene Briles.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam Marshburn and husband Jamey of Trinity, granddaughter, Chelley Sonner, and great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Sonner.

James “Jim” Edwin Briles Dies


James “Jim” Edwin Briles passed away on April 3, 2022 with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life Service for Jim is pending.

Born January 8, 1934 in Bell California to Emmett James and Mary Martin Briles. United States Army Veteran. Preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Mary Briles; and brother, Bill Briles. 

Left to cherish many years of precious memories are his wife of 54 years; Marilyn Briles; daughters, Sharon Burgess and husband Jack, Donna Vanwestrienen and husband Darreld, Patricia Holland and husband Patrick; sons, Earl Riley and wife Olivia, and Carl Riley and wife Kim; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
