ARCHDALE - Nellie Louise Copple Smith, 88, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center. Funeral service celebrating Nellie’s life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 23, 2017, at English Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Summey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Born July 16, 1928, in Asheboro and was the daughter of the late Earle R. and Clara Pierce Copple.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Smith; a son, Harold Lee Smith; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Marie Hall; a sister, Earlene Buffington; and a brother, Joe Copple. She is survived by a son, Danny Smith and his wife, Judy, of Greensboro; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Irene Smith of Conway, SC; a sister, Margie Wolfe and her husband, Richard, of Trinity; a brother, Rev. Ron Copple and his wife, Kathy, of Denton; five grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Direct line to Catherine Briles Skeen

Lanny David Shelley

Lanny David Shelley, 52, of Lexington passed away Friday June 9, 2017 at his daughter’s residence. US Veteran. A funeral service will be held Wednesday June 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Heath Church in Lexington with Rev. Dan Downing and Rev. Derald Hunt officiating. Internment will follow at Faith Community Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Born June 10, 1964 to Boyd Lefon Shelley and Helen Kinley Shelley in Randolph County. Preceded in death by his Maternal grandparents Joseph and Iva Kinley; and Paternal grandparents Edgar and Julia Shelley; two uncles Harold Kinley and Don Kinley. Surviving are his wife Esther Montel Shelley of Lexington; two daughters Kara Lynn Gordon and husband Alan of Poland, OH, LaNae Joanna Okken and husband Chris of Thomasville; one son Lanny (David) Shelley II of Winston-Salem, NC; his mother Helen Kinley Shelley of Thomasville; one brother Jason Shelley and wife Pele of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren Callie, Jeffrey, Gavan, Morgan, Landon, Brooklynn, and Keagan.
