Vida Catherine McDowell Swaney

Vida Catherine McDowell Swaney passed away July 22, 2014. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Michael L. Orman officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery. Preceded in death by her parents, Eli Linville and Martha Pierce McDowell as well as her husband Roy Lee Swaney. Also her brothers, Ira, Dallas, George, Pearl, and Alvin McDowell and sisters, Bernice Trotter, Exie Snider, Lois Staley, and Imogene Ridge. Surviving are  four children, sons, Ronald Swaney (Sharon) and Roger Swaney (Linda); daughters, Gail Burton (Clifton) and Sandra Bodenheimer (Thad), all of Thomasville. She also loved and cherished seven grandchildren, Crystal Christiansen (Elliot Everhart), Bradley Burton (Martha), Misty Payne (Richard), Todd Bodenheimer (Amy), Tawana Gee (Mark), Mark Swaney (Amber), and Greg Swaney. She was also blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren, Nicholas Christiansen (Brionna), Kasey Christiansen, Daxton Bodenheimer, Courtney Bodenheimer, Austin Gee, Jacob Burton, Jenna Burton, Tyler Wimbley, Trevor Wimbley, Ashley Swaney, Trey Swaney, Dylan Swaney, Chloe Swaney, Tyler Payne, and Catherine Payne; two great-great grandchildren, Landon Christiansen and Kayden Roberts. Also surviving is one brother, Casper McDowell and a sister-in-law, Alene McDowell.

Mary Pierce Hughes Passes

Mary Pierce Hughes, age 68  ofDenton, NC died Saturday, July 19 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. A funeral service will be held AT 2:00 pm Thursday, July 24 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. Born April 24, 1946 in Forsyth County to Royce Reece Pierce and Millie Frances Barnes Pierce. She was a retired employee of Teleflex Company. She was married to Felix Hughes, Jr. who died in 1993. Survived by a daughter Lora Hughes of Denton; a son Ronnie Hughes of Asheboro; brothers, Charles Pierce and Dolan Pierce both of Thomasville; a sister, Louise Elberson of Thomasville; grandchildren, Dustin Wayne Bailey and Justina Lynn Hughes; great grandchildren, Bladyn Ray Bailey and Xander Felix Gage Bailey.

Harvey Ellis Rich Dies

Harvey Ellis Rich, 65, of Sophia, NC, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at The Randolph Hospice House. Wake: 11:00am to 11:30am, Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for 12:00 pm Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Mt. View Independent Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Pugh officiating.

 Native of Randolph County, NC, born April 5, 1949. He was the son of late George Rich and Miranda Hoover Rich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Rich and sister, Ruby Rich Cagle. Survived by his cousins, Charles Bulla and wife, Ann, Virginia Lilly and husband, Earl, Grace Humble and husband, Harvey, Doris Bulla; special friends, Farrell Turner, Alvin Hoover, Susan Farmsworth, Ray Satterfield, David Kenyon, seven employees of the Mountain View Market, and faithful friend, “Bandit”. Veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

The explanation provided by the directors of the home is unacceptable! This is a trend across the nation with regards to funeral homes. The dead are disrespected and the surviving are left to wonder and suffer mental anguish.

James Bruce Snider, 88, of Denton, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home. Born April 25, 1926, in Davidson County to Everett and Cora Mae Pierce Snider; preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Bruce and Helen Surratt Snider, and brothers Warren and Lowell Snider. Surviving are his wife, Vonciel Bisher Snider of the home; grandson David Bruce Snider and wife Jill of Denton and John Snider and wife Carole of Pfafftown; brother John Snider and wife Carole of Pfafftown; sister Elaine Voncannon of Denton; sister-in-law Sylvia Snider of Mount Airy; two great-granddaughters, Mercedes and Taylor; and three nephews, Arlie and Allen Snider and Ben Voncannon.

Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro. Native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Briles was born March 3, 1949. He was the son of the late Robert Briles and Margaret Gallimore Briles. Survived by his aunts and uncles, Donna and Gilbert Briles, of Trinity, NC, Wendell and India Briles, of Asheboro, NC, Ruth Ann Gallimore, of Trinity, NC, Ruth Tedder, of Asheboro, NC, Troy Loflin, of Statesville, NC, and numerous cousins.

Born on August 15, 1940 in Stamford, Texas to Curtis Ivy and Maxie D Welch Ivy. She married Ernest Dudley Briles on May 18, 1968 in Stamford, Texas. Preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Ivy and Maxie D Welch Ivy. Survived by her loving husband Ernest Briles, their three children, Charles Mauldin (Chuck) and wife Kathy of Spring, Tx, Jana Susan Rector and husband Dale of Lubbock, Texas and Angela Carolyn Briles of Dallas, Tx., 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, two sisters Carolyn Weaver and Cindi Bailey, both of Abilene, Tx.
