Carl “Carlie” Odell Welborn, III, Dies

Carl “Carlie” Odell Welborn, III, 67 of Hannersville Road passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 4:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel with Rev. Ray Whittington officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 2:30 to 3:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Carlie was born on December 31, 1952 to Carl Odell Welborn, Jr. and Juanita Black Welborn in Davidson County. He was preceded in death by his father, and infant sister, Carol Laure Welborn.
Surviving are his loving wife of 28 years, Marijean May Welborn of the home; his mother, Juanita Welborn of Thomasville; five children, Michael Welborn of Kannapolis, Jennifer Semones (Larry) of Winston Salem, Joe Gregory (Donna) of Archdale, Jim Gregory (Stephanie) of Lexington, Tim Gregory (Chaz) of Lexington; three sisters, Barbara Ramsey (Jim) of Greensboro, Pam Daniels (Jimmy) of Chocowinity, Terri Anderson (Gene) of Thomasville; his mother in law, Alice May of Lexington. Carlie was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Mr. Welborn's great grandmother is Martha Briles Welborn

Lindsy Clark "L.C." Parrish

Lindsy Clark "L.C." Parrish, age 84, of Asheboro passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur. No services are planned. Mr. Parrish was born in Asheboro on February 4, 1936 to Carl Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Miller Parrish. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norene Varner Parrish; sons, Bobby Clark Parrish (Janie) of Asheboro, Carr Raymond Parrish (Linda) of Asheboro, Terry Wayne Parrish (Angela) of Asheboro, and David Alan Parrish (Amanda Hasty) of Asheboro; daughter, Janet Parrish Hayden (Joe Hudson) of Trinity; 6 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Hilda Parrish Robbins of Asheboro; and brother, Max Parrish (Jane) Parrish of Seagrove.

Mr. Parrish's great grandmother is Frances Ellen "Fannie" Briles Miller (maternal line) Also seven generations back to Mary Briles Rush (paternal line).

Carol Dawn McCarroll Passes

Carol Dawn McCarroll, 68, of Hartshorne, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.
Viewing will be on Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne with Pastor Daniel Miller officiating.
Carol was born on October 31, 1951, in San Diego, California to Walter Lee and Imogene (Briles) Ramey. She married Jewel E. McCarroll on March 23, 1981, in Simi Valley, California. 
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Jewel E. McCarroll; children, Richard Salie III, Dewayne McCarroll, Monica Johnston, Diana Parsons, David Salie and Amanda McCarroll; bonus sons, Daniel Cowdery and Darren Cowdery; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, George Ramey and Kenneth Ramey; sisters, Loretta Bradley, Josie Peters and Belinda Richardson.

Leona Jean “Jeanie” Briles Cookston

Leona Jean “Jeanie” Briles Cookston, age 84, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of the late Jon Anderson Cookston, departed this life Saturday afternoon, May 9, 2020 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville. A private graveside service for Mrs. Cookston will be held at the Somerville City Cemetery.
Born December 26, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of the late Worthie Harwood Briles and Leona Hays (Connally) Briles. 
Mrs. Cookston is survived by her daughter, Sherri Shelby (Philip) of Jackson, TN; two grandchildren, Madison Michelle Morris of Jackson, TN and Scott Gregory Morris of Jackson, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Anderson Cookston and her son-in-law, Michael Hiram Morris.

Lorene Briles, 100, Dies

Lorene Doris Tindall Briles, 100, of Des Moines, formerly of Corning, passed Monday, May 4, 2020, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 701 7th St. in Corning. Rev. Andrew Bardole will officiate.
Born March 11, 1920, on a farm in Adams County, the daughter of Charles Esgar and Emma Cordelia (Carr) Tindall In 1949, she married James Briles and raised her family in Corning. That marriage ended in divorce. Preceding in death were her parents; siblings: Jimmy, Vaughn, Clifford and Wanda Lee; daughter Mary; and daughters-in-law Anita and Kathleen.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Dr. Ed Briles (Brenda) of Idaho, Dr. James Briles of Florida, Dr. Tom Briles (Cindy) of Kansas, and her daughter Dory Briles (Jim) of Des Moines. Lorene delighted in her grandchildren: Tyler, Elena, Calvin, Kristen, Curtis, Briles, Lily, Hannah, Kimball, and Pender. Lorene’s other surviving relatives and friends held a special place in her heart, especially her niece Michelle Leonard and her family.

Clara Hoover Smith, 88, Dies

Mrs. Clara Hoover Smith, 88, of Denton passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Pastor Wendyl Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at Denton Town Cemetery.
Born September 27, 1931 in Randolph County to the late Duke Hoover and Nora Kinley Hoover. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 3 brothers; 4 sisters; and one grandson, David Surratt. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Marshall Smith; daughters, Pansy Hunt (Doug), Donice Loflin (Roger), and Patricia Smith; 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandchild;  and sister, Wilma Patterson.-Briggs Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith's great grandmother is Nancy Briles Kindley. Also six generations back to Rachel Briles Hoover.
