Grand Daughter of Briles Dies

Faith Routh Scism, 75 of Archdale pass Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Scism will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Following the interment the family will greet friends in the church. Born April 10, 1938 in Randolph County she is a daughter of the late Kernie Routh and Bertie Hill Routh. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Scism on August 13, 2004 and a sister Christine R. Jordan and a brother Gene Routh. Survived by one son David K. Scism and wife Ronda of Thomasville and a grandson Phillip Keith Scism of Thomasville. She is also survived by her siblings Anne Harrell, Carl E. Routh, Shirley R. Holder, Curtis Routh and wife Jean and Sue R. Stroud and two sisters-in-law Linda Sink and Becky Kearns.

Denise Beebe Briles Passes

HENDERSON-Denise Ann Briles, age 51, died Saturday, July 27, 2013. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Steve Goode and the Rev. Mike Briles. The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from noon until 1:00 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home. Born in Columbus, MS on August 3, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Beebe and Maxine Vollmer Beebe of Hendersonville, NC. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Frank Briles and daughter, Shannon Briles of the home.

Teresa Ann Loflin Haithcox

SOPHIA-Teresa Ann Loflin Haithcox, 54, of Sophia died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at her home. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 25, 2013, from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S Main St., Randleman. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro. Native of Randolph County and born May 1, 1959 to the late Thomas Arthur Loflin and Shirley Routh Griffin who survives. Preceded in death by her grandmother, Clara Routh. Survived by her son, Brandon Moser; mother, Shirley Griffin of Sophia; brothers, Dale Loflin and his wife Thea of Sophia, Ricky Loflin and his wife Karen of Trinity and Scott Loflin and his wife Rachel of Asheboro; nephews, Josh Loflin and his wife Veronica of Randleman, Issac and Matthew Loflin both of Asheboro; niece, Dasha Oxendine and her husband Jeremy of Trinity; great nieces, Emily and Cheyenne Oxendine of Trinity; and faithful canine companion Jasmine.

Sallie Hill Yates Dies

Sallie Bell Hill Yates, 91, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. Mike Orman officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Born August 7, 1921 in Davidson County, a daughter of the late Hosey Presley Hill and May Hunt Hill. Mrs. She was married to Leon Nathaniel Yates who preceded her in death July 1, 2011. Surviving are a son, Tony Leon Yates of Portsmouth, Virginia; grandchildren, Bryan Nathan Yates and wife Tammi of Portsmouth, Virginia and Lorrie Lee Spivey and husband Bradley of Thomasville; and Seven Great-Grandchildren.

HIGH POINT- Gilbert Blake Farlow, 62, resident of High Point passed today, July 20th, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Son of James Gilbert & Effie Skeen Farlow.

Alberta Elizabeth "Beth" Briles Gentry

While checking death notices around the county I came upon one with direct ties to Briles in Randolph County, specifically the granddaughter of John & Elizabeth Welborn Briles. Alberta "Beth" Briles Gentry, daughter of John Charles & Dessie Duvall Briles passed away January 24th of this year in Ottawa, Kansas. Beth, her parents, and husband are buried at Highand Cemetery in Ottawa, KS. We have updated Dessie's information and added the cemetery. We apologize for missing this earlier. Alberta Elizabeth "Beth" Briles Gentry passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 in Ottawa, Kansas. Family and friends will meet for a Graveside Service at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 28, 2013, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, with a Memorial Service at Trinity United Methodist Church Ottawa, 1:30 P.M. Monday, January 28, 2013. Born on Wednesday, February 18, 1925 in Richter, Kansas, the daughter of John Charles and Dessie (Duvall) Briles. On June 1, 1947 Beth was united in marriage to Kenneth Neil Gentry at her parents' home. After forty-four years of marriage he preceded her in death on December 13, 1991. Preceding Beth in death are her husband Kenneth Neil Gentry; parents John and Dessie Briles; grandson Tyler Bogert; and brother-in-law Chuck Swenson. Surviving family members include son Michal N. Gentry and his wife Linda, son Alan D. Gentry and his wife Lori, daughter Elisa A. Bogert and her husband Mark; grandchildren Ben Bogert and Chris Gentry; sister Dorothy Apgar and her husband Pat, sister Virginia Gardner and her husband Dan, and sister Beverly Swenson; sister-in-law Anna Marie Darbro and her husband Benny; and many nieces and nephews.

Casi Jane (Janie) Hill of Arcadia passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church, Friedberg Church Road, Clemmons, NC with the Rev. Garness Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel on Friday, July 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Born in Lexington, NC on June 20, 1961 to John Riley Pierce and Zada Byerly Pierce. She was preceded in death by her father, John Pierce (July 11, 2004) and a brother Timothy Pierce (January 5, 1996). Survived by her husband of 32 years, Freddie Leroy Hill of the home, her mother, Zada “Sue” Pierce of Clemmons; sisters, Bonnie Brewer (Charles) of Mocksville, Emma Hanes (Lacy) of Lexington, Penny Grube (Mike) of Virginia; brothers, Johnny Pierce (Tammy) of Clemmons; sister-in-laws, Mary Vawter (Roger) and Debbie Everhart (Rick) also of Clemmons and many nieces and nephews.

BURLINGTON-Frances Mae Hinkle Gardner, 81, passed Friday, July 5, 2013, at Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 S. Church St., Burlington, NC on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. by Rev. Ellen McCubbin and Rev. Dr. Charles Lee “Chuck” Hutchens. Entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. Born to the late Sollie Franklin Hinkle and Jessie Mae Black on born in Thomasville, NC. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Paul (Bob) Gardner of Thomasville and a brother Frank Hinkle of Thomasville. She is survived by her daughter Susan Gail Gardner Davis, Burlington; sister Joan Carol Hinkle Robertson; sister-in-law Peggy Hinkle, Thomasville; aunt Gladys Shoaf, Thomasville; cousin Craig Shoaf, Creswell and numerous nephews and nieces.
