Peggy Smith Briles Dies

Peggy Smith Briles, 84, of Archdale, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Hospice Home at High Point. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, November 3, 2017, at Charity Baptist Church with Rev. Elton Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.Born June 7, 1933, in Davidson County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Smith and the late Irene Strader Smith. Survived by her husband, Charles William Briles, Jr. of the home; sons, Rev. Mickey Briles and wife Deana of Archdale, and Dr. Charles Briles, III and wife Aleta of AZ; brothers, Richard Smith and wife Peggy of Denton, Archie Smith of Denton, and Roger Smith and wife Doris of Asheboro; sister, Dolores Briles and husband Dwain of Asheboro; grandchildren, Colton Briles, and Caroline Briles.

ASHEBORO – Jennings Bryan Bulla Jr., 82, passed away at his home in Asheboro on Tuesday, October 24th, 2017. A visitation for Jennings will be held on Friday, October 27th, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm at Heritage Baptist Church of Randleman on Worthville Road. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at 2pm at Heritage Baptist Church of Randleman, Pastor Harold McMillan and Pastor Kenny Heath officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklinville, NC. Born on April 27th, 1935 to the late Jennings and Ollie Millikan Bulla in Asheboro, North Carolina. Jennings is survived by his wife of 35 years Alma Smith Bulla; 5 children; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Joseph Douglas “Doug” Bulla, age 56, of the Rollingwood Group Home in Greensboro passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017 at his home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Born in Asheboro on March 17, 1961 to J.D. and Lois Ellen Boroughs Bulla. Jennifer Welborn, 21, Dies in Car Wreck

Miss Jennifer Anne Welborn, 21, a resident of Thomasville passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 after injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Lexington Church of Christ with Minister Brock Shanks officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Miss Welborn will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.Born on June 11, 1996 in Guilford County, NC to Scotty Ray Welborn and Karen Anne Hudson Welborn. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bobby and Brenda Welborn; and her maternal grandfather, Henry Hudson. Surviving in addition to her parents, Scotty and Karen Welborn of the home; are her brothers, Josh Welborn and her twin, Jacob Welborn of the home; maternal grandmother, Kathryn Hudson of Walkertown; and Jennifer’s boyfriend, Michael Ramos of Asheboro.

Mr. Jack L Snider, 78, of Sexton Road, Denton, NC passed away on Wednesday, September 27 at the W G Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be held 3:00 Saturday, Sept. 30 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Reeves, Dr. Ron Chaney, and Rev. Gerald Ward presiding. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Born September 18, 1939 in Randolph County to Walter Thomas Snider and Mary Trotter Snider. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dalton and John Snider and sisters, Dorothy White, Gladys Routh, Ruth Bradshaw, Colleen Apple, and Rachel Adams. Ellen Skeen Hepler, 90, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 in Kannapolis following several years of declining health. A Celebration of Ellen's life will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Oak Hill Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Gary Myers. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at Thomasville Funeral Home Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. Born in Randolph County, October 21, 1926, a daughter of the late Cicero Skeen and Della Kinley Skeen, preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hepler, four sisters, Betty Hepler, Louetta Rothrock, Mae Grubb and Elsie Skeen, and three brothers, Paul, Olin and Elmer Skeen. Bobby Forkner Dies

Bobby Forkner, 85, of Asheboro died Monday, July 31, 2017 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2017, at Bethel Friends Meeting with Rev. Pat Thames and Rev. Ben Hurley. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors presented by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born January 19, 1932 in Randolph County, Mr. Forkner was the son of the late Hobert and Myrtle G. Forkner. US Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois Forkner, Elsie Klein, Jeanette Hinshaw; and brother, Sam Forkner. Survivors include his wife, Mary Carol Briles Forkner of the home; son, Craig Shannon Forkner and wife, Akane of Japan; grandchildren, Takeru Forkner, Ellie Forkner, Robert Forkner; and "special son", Hunter Curtis and wife, Emma.

Paul "Dickie" Medlin Jr

Paul "Dickie" Medlin Jr. of Lexington passed away August 23, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Dickie, as he was known to those who loved him was born January 6, 1946 to Paul and Arlene Martin Medlin, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mabe Medlin, son, Paul D. Medlin (Teresa), daughter, Tosha Medlin Briles, stepchildren, Chris Hill, Debbie (Tommy) Gordon, Mark (Janet) McDowell. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dickie is also survived by a brother, Mark Martin and sister, Saundra (Michael) Riggs. Dickie loved working with his hands and was very skillful in woodworking. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC. A Celebration of Life will be announced at future date. Thomasville Funeral Home is assisting the Medlin family.

Larry W. Davis Dies

GREENVILLE-Larry W. Davis, 67, of Greenville passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. No services. Born Jan. 10, 1950, in Greenville, the oldest son of the late Paul Edward Davis and Margaret Briles Davis. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Davis; and a nephew, Trent Christie. He was of Baptist faith. Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and wife, Paula Davis; his mother, Margaret Davis; his daughter, Jennifer (Ross) Jones; grandsons Justin Jones and Jack Jones; brother Eddie (Debbie) Davis; sisters Dianne (Mark) Christie and Krista (Orval McLaughlin; father-in-law Sam (Lana) Loy; mother-in-law Rena Loy; nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Jo Davis and Aunt Jane Davis and their families as well as many special friends.

New Content Added to the BIRN



The Briles Information Radio Network has added new content to it's growing library. Four new episodes of "Flickers from the Cave" has been uploaded. This series is created by Mike Richardson and Marty Hollingsworth; both talk about horror flicks from the past.

Several shows from"Afloat with Henry Morgan" was added. The show was radio broadcast that aired, as many would say, in 1933. Each episode was 12 minutes long, and was dedicated for the young listeners in particular. The producer and star of the show was George Edwards, the same person who produced the popular series Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, to name a few.

Eight episodes from the "Murder by Experts" has been added as well. This show aired in from 1949-1951 which feature crime stories by leading murder experts such as William Irish, Alfred Hitchcock and Craig Rice.

The BIRN is currently producing the first show for "B-Side Radio Underground" and the opening theme for the new "Shock Theater!" Stay Tuned!

Veronica Marcella "Marcie" Johnson Dies

Lexington – Veronica Marcella (Marcie) Johnson passed August 13, 2017. Linda D. (Briles) Shively, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Josh Keesling will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Born on March 15, 1949 in Marion County as the daughter of Dale Miller and Joan (Kidd) Briles. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (James) McGuire of Fishers, IN, and Rhonda (Darin) Earl of Poplar Grove, IL; siblings, Cynthia, Rollie, Karen, Michael, Annie, John Chuck; grandchildren Mary, Mac, and Kevin McGuire, and Ryan and Ashley Earl; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley Ruth Hulin Jester, 78, of Trinity passed away August 2, 2017 at High Point Regional Hospital. A Memorial service will be held Saturday August 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Jim Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Born July 17, 1939 to the late Jim Hulin and Nellie Loflin Hulin in Randolph County. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Albert Carless Jester on August 22, 2003, after 46 years of marriage and one daughter Phyllis Walker that passed away October 29, 2005; two brothers James Hulin and Bobby Hulin. Golda Briles Jenkins Dies

Golda Juanita Briles Jenkins, of Wellington, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at her home in Wellington, at the age of 82. Funeral services for Golda will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Belle Plaine, Kan. A private interment will be held at the Kechi Township Cemetery, Kechi, Kan. Born the daughter of Milo F. and Etta Elizabeth (Angle) Briles on Saturday, Dec. 29, 1934 in Amorita, Okla. Survivors include her nephew, Kevin Phillips and his girlfriend Melody Goodman. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Dean and Garold Briles, sisters: Imogene Ramey and Lois Phillips and nephew, Kelly Phillips.

Lala Briles Pitts Passes

Lala Briles Pitts, 83, went home to be with the Lord July 23, 2017. Funeral Services was held 1:00PM Tuesday July 25, 2017 at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, where she was a longtime member, with Pastor Chuck Peters officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Randolph County, Lala was the daughter of the late Eunice Pierce and Henry Allen Briles. She was married to the late Harvey Pitts, and also was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Dixon and Edith Hoover, and brother Luther Briles. Survivors include her children Marvin Pitts and Debra of Belews Creek, Allen Pitts and Darlene of Greensboro, and Elaine Lowe and Mark of High Point; grandchildren Heather Wolf and Travis, Jay Pitts and Holly, Todd Hargett and Tammy, and Ryan Lowe; great-grandchildren Parker Pitts, Matthan Wolf, and Jordan Hargett; sister-in-law Joann Briles; and a host of extended family and friends. 75th Anniversary of Rex Briles' Passing

The Briles Information Network is dedicated to the memory of Rex Briles, my grandfather. Since 1996, we have promoted genealogy research and preserving family history. We continue with visiting the grave site of Rex Briles who passed 75 years ago this date. Rex is buried with his parents, Ernest Michael and Cora Cain Briles and his brother Clarence Ralph Briles at Guilford Memorial Park in Jamestown, NC. Rex passed away July 22, 1942 of an acute appendicitis. We celebrated his short life by placing a flowers at the main headstone along with memory lights. God bless Rex Briles who is "At Rest" and will never be forgotten!

Funeral services will be held at the Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, Monday, April 17, 2017, at 1 PM, with Pastor Greg Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens also in Point Pleasant. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 11-1 PM prior to the service on Monday.She was born on January 16, 1986, in Point Pleasant, WV, to Dale and Corrina Durst. Kenneth John Briles, age 70 of Wild Rose, died unexpectedly on Saturday May 13, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army with the 84th Division and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. Mrs. Uavah Kindley York, 82, of Trinity passed away, March 7, 2017 at Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington. All services will be private to the family. Born on December 11, 1934 in Randolph County to the late Zebulon Vance Kindley and Ola Roana Handcock Kindley. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Paul York who passed away in 2003. Surviving are three brothers, Ernest Kindley, Hubert Kindley, and Michael Kindley; two sisters, Jo Ann Loflin and Judy Kindley.

Mona Louise Hoover Stout, age 77, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Back Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery, Back Creek Church Road, Asheboro with Pastor Michael Fulp, Jr. officiating. Born in Asheboro on June 24, 1939 to Lee and Dora Johnson Hoover. In addition to her parents, Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Stout and brother, Dempsey Hoover. Survived by her niece, Joyce Steelman of Surfside Beach, SC; and sister-in-law, Josephine Hoover of Asheboro; and several other nieces and nephews.

Clara Hepler Proctor Phillips

Clara Hepler Proctor Phillips, 84, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 at Thomasville Medical Center. A celebration of Clara's life will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 25, 2017 in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. E. Keith Carroll and Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Born on September 26, 1932 in Davidson County to the late Thomas Reid and Claudie Scarlett Hepler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Lee Proctor and James Ransler Phillips, two sisters and three brothers. Surviving are children, Tonya Owens and husband Tony and Chris Proctor and wife Beverly, both of Thomasville; step children, Bob Phillips and wife Becky of High Point, Patti Halsey and husband Mark of Thomasville, Terri Russo of Thomasville, and Sharon Craver of Greenville, SC; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Inez Swing of Lexington; and brother, Lloyd Helper and wife Norma of Thomasville. Lois June Spangler Briles

Lois June Briles, 79, of Belle went home to be with the Lord, January 25, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle, with Pastor Marvin Horan officiating. Interment will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time at the funeral home on Monday. Preceding her in death were her parents, Herbert Omen and Lula Mae Meadows Spangler; and an infant daughter, Stephanie Fawn Briles.  Surviving are her loving husband, Dawnevyn Briles; son, Brian of Shrewsbury; daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Mark Shannon of Sissonville; and grandchildren, Matthew Sanchez and his wife, Jessica, of Oak Hill, Cory Sanchez of Morgantown, Courtney Shannon of Philadelphia, PA, and Cameron Bays of Shrewsbury.

Reverend Charles Branson Walker Dies

TRINITY-Reverend Charles Branson Walker, 97, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Hinkle Hospice Home, with his wife and family by his side. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, 4736 Mt. Gilead Church Road, Sophia, NC. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 17, at the church.Born January 18, 1920, in Trinity, NC.  He was the fourth of twelve children of the late William Robert Walker and Eula Melita Rush Walker.  He is survived by his wife, Mozelle Smith Walker (they would have been married 75 years on February 23); his children, Ann Walker Allnutt of Archdale, Janice Walker Allred and husband Craig of Lexington, and Debra Walker Siler and husband Billy of High Point; grandchildren, Toni Snyder (Jay), Kimberly Bekat, Cynthia Phelps (Dean), Branson Allred, Kyle Siler (fiancée Trina Crawford), Kristen Lawlor (EJ), and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sister, Ruth Wall, and brothers, Odis Walker and Jackie Walker, as well as many close friends. He is predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Jeanette Kay Walker; and eight brothers.

Rev. Walker's grandmother is Sarah Briles Walker. His mom has six direct lines to Mary Briles Rush.

Viola Hizer Briles Keller Dies

Viola E. Briles Keller, 95, died Monday morning, February 13, 2017, in University Nursing Center, Upland. Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Jones-Smith Funeral Home,  in Upland, Indiana. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 16, 2017, Jones-Smith Funeral Home, Rev. Bill Kannan officiating. Interment will follow in the Jefferson Cemetery in Upland, Indiana. Born in Hartford City, the daughter of the late Aaron and Sarah (James) Hizer. On November 7, 1936, she married George Briles who preceded her in death April 25, 1991. In 1998 she married Paul Keller who also preceded her in death December 22, 2008. Survivors include two sons, Larry (De) Briles, and Jerry (Wanda) Briles, both of Upland; six grandchildren; David (Ieva) Briles, Loveland, CO, Susan (Doug) Garrison, New Paris, Leigh Ann (Scott) Colburn, Jonesboro, Aaron (Meredith) Briles, Muncie, Dan (Amanda) Briles, Indianapolis, Jennifer (Nick) Kidwell, Hartford City, and twelve great grandchildren.

Patrick Wayne Briles passed away on January 11, 2017 in Texas. Funeral services were held at the Rosewood Humble Chapel, 10:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2017. Burial followed in the Rosewood Memorial Park. Born May 2 1947, to the late Earnest Lester Briles and Millicent Seale Briles. Preceded in death by his wife Jerry Jones Briles and daughter, Vallie Briles.

Gertrude Snider Small, 90, passed Friday, February 10, 2017at home with family by her side. Family will receive friends Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jon Reece officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Born September 1, 1927 in Randolph County to the late Rosa and Brantley Snider. On December 22, 1945 she married the love of her life, Joe Lloyd Small. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Joe Lloyd Small, grandson, Kenneth Cecil "Ken" Small, Jr., son-in-law, Craig F. Branson, sisters, Edith Carmac, Lucille Davis, Frances Brown, brothers, Glen and Ed Snider. Survivors are son, Kenneth Cecil Small, daughter, Brenda S.
