Janice Elaine Freedle Cook


Janice Elaine Freedle Cook, 73, of High Point, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in Jamestown.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11 AM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. Burial will follow the service at Calvary United Church of Christ, 1410 Lexington Ave, Thomasville, NC.  The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

 She was born November 22, 1950 in Davidson County, NC to the late, Raymond Freedle and Lena Mae Parrish. In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by a brother, Sammy Freedle. 

Janice is survived by her daughter, Karen Bowers of Jamestown; her son, Brian Cook and wife Tina of Thomasville; a brother, James Freedle and wife Vickie of Lilburn, GA; three grandchildren, Chastity Brinkley, Copeland Bowers, Alyssa Martin; two great-grandchildren, Oliver Leonard, Emma Seech; special niece and caregiver, Laura Gregg and husband Jae of Lexington; several nieces and nephews.

Janet Lynn Hoover Mintz, 70, of Asheboro, died Saturday, March 30, 2024, at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. Tim Pheagin officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Asheboro.


Born in Randolph County, NC on February 9, 1954, Janet was the daughter of the late Harold Devoy Hoover and Connie Lee Maness Hoover. 


Surviving are her husband, Greg "Tinker" Mintz of the home; daughter, Tina Mintz Hiskett (Fred) of Seagrove; grandchildren, Emma Hiskett (Ethan Stoddard) of Raleigh and Barrett Hiskett (Kara Camp) of Asheboro.

Aiko Briles Dies

Aiko Briles, 97, of Eagle Point, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at her residence. She was born on January 16, 1927 and was married to the late Owen Emmit Briles Jr. who passed in 2003. Her son, Martin L. Briles passed in 2022. There is no information regarding services at this time. Conger-Morris Funeral Home is servicing the Br. iles Family.

They had a daughter, Grace Louise Briles Chase, 12 Apr 1895 Died 4 Sep 1950 and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA.

Everett “Buck” Lee Small


Everett "Buck" Lee Small, 89, of Asheboro, died Thursday, March 21, 2024, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Private services are being held.


Buck was born on November 13, 1934, in Randolph County, the son of the late Ream Small and Eunice Pierce Small.  U.S. Army veteran.


In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his brothers, Lindsay Small, Clay Small, Lloyd Small, Hoyle Small; sisters, Ocia McDowell, Kate Skeen, Kathleen Yow, Esther Davidson, Annie Mae Robbins, and Marie Freeman.


Surviving are his wife, Evelean Small of the home; daughter, Karen Holland and husband Dale of Charleston, SC; sisters, Allene Gallimore of Lexington; grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Holland, and James Ross Holland and wife Madison.

Elma Louise Garner Cagle


Elma Louise Garner Cagle, 80, of New Hope Rd., Denton, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at her residence.

Memorial Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. David Lancaster and Rev. Ron Chaney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM prior to the service on Sunday at the church.

Born in Davidson County on February 5, 1944, she was the daughter of Melvin and Rona Pearce Garner. She was preceded in death by a sister, Adrena Gallimore. She was a member at Bethel Baptist Church and formerly at West Stanly Baptist Church in Albemarle.

Mrs. Cagle is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Neal Cagle of the home; 2 sons, Neal Reid Cagle (Mary) of Denton and Brent Wade Cagle (Donna) of Denton; brother, Randall Garner (Darnell) of Denton; sister, Carolyn Cagle of Denton; 2 grandchildren, Stephen and Kevin Cagle; 5 step-grandchildren, Hannah, Tabitha, Rachel, Moriyh, and Isayh Clark.

Van “Boogie” Weldon Hicks, Sr.

Mr. Van “Boogie” Weldon Hicks, Sr. 83, of Lexington, died at Atrium Health High Point Hospital on Monday, March, 18, 2024. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Jason Craver officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, 8114 Old US Hwy 64, Lexington, NC 27292. 

He was born on June 24, 1940, in Randolph County to the late Carl Lee Hicks and Viola Kindley Hicks. In addition to his parents, Boogie is preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Summey, Ruby Gallimore, Crissy Jane Smith; five brothers, T.J. Hicks, L.C. Hicks, Roland Hicks, Richard Hicks, Hoyt Hicks; a great-grandson, Kaleb Dill.

Surviving are his life partner, Faye Porter of Germanton; his son, Van Weldon Hicks, Jr. and wife, Kelly of Thomasville; four daughters, Virginia Tate and husband Pete of Thomasville, Carey Gregory and husband Todd of Lexington, Jana Hicks of Lexington, Aimee Farlow and wife Sharon of Archdale; three brothers, Hollis Hicks and wife, Elaine of Lexington, David Hicks and wife Janet of Lexington, Dallas Hicks of Thomasville; two sisters, Julia Ruth Tharp of Belews Creek, Donese Trotter and husband, Jimmy of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Cisneros, Taylor Lynch, Dakota Tate, Jake Thomas, Savannah Hicks, Tyler Hicks, MaryKatherine Roberts, Dalton Hicks; ten great-grandchildren, Korbin Dill, Addison Cisneros, Elijah Cisneros, Marley Tate, Nadia Logan, Nola Logan, Naomi Logan, Emma Hicks, Grayson Henderson, Salem Henderson; an expected great-great grandson, Oliver Borowski; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Darrell Rabon, Rev. Bryan Rush, Rev. Jeff Garner, Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 


Born on February 8, 1933, in Davidson County, NC, Odell was the son of the late Lindsay and Virdie Hughes Lambeth. 


In addition to his parents, Odell was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Beasley Lambeth; daughter, Patricia Lambeth; sons, Bobby Lambeth, Ronnie Lambeth; sisters, Verlie Presnell, Vera Cunningham, Virgie Hughes, Ruby Lambeth, Alene Lambeth; brothers, Olan Lambeth and Oliver Lambeth.


Surviving are daughters, Dewanda Cron (George) of Asheboro, Ronda Rush (Bryan) of Asheboro; son, Joe Don Lambeth (Alesia) of Lexington; sister, Vida Allred (Charles) of Asheboro; brother, Oscar Lambeth (Shelby) of Lexington; brother-in-law, Jim Cunningham of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

Donna Gallimore Briles

Donna Gallimore Briles, 92, of Trinity, died Friday, March 8, 2024, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Tabernacle Church of Trinity, with Rev. Lynn Chaney and Chaplain Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Briles will lie in repose from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m., Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro. 


Born in Randolph County, NC, on July 12, 1931, Donna was the daughter of the late Robie Elsie Gallimore and Alice Myrtle Hoover Gallimore. 


In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death her husband, Gilbert Briles; sister, Margaret Briles; and brother, Burnis Gallimore.


Surviving are her daughter, Phyllis Caviness (Gary W.) of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Gallimore of Trinity; granddaughter, Natalie Caviness; and her schnauzer, Chloe.
