Kenneth Terry Hulin Dies

Mr. Kenneth Terry Hulin, 76, of Supply, NC and formerly of Lexington, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at his residence.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, May 3 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel conducted by Pastor Tim Gammons. Interment will follow at Pierce’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Terry was born in Randolph County on May 8, 1944 to the late Percy Watson Hulin and Josie Indonia Briles Hulin.

In addition to his parents Terry was preceded in death by sisters, Edna Pennington, Hazel Hoover, and Virgie Hulin; brothers, Tommy, Billy, Clayton, and Bud Hulin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sue Seech Hulin of the home; daughters, Teresa Russell of Denton, Debbie Davis of Southmont, Lisa Beam (Jim) of Thomasville; son, Mark Hulin (Starla) of Denton; step-daughter, Tonja McGee of Southmont; sister, Lucille Noah (Buck) of Lexington 10 grandchildren, Jesse Cribb, Josie Alexander, Dylan Beam, Tina Beam, Brad Davis, Chad Davis, Holly McGee, Heather McGee, Serena Sink, and Megan Lott; 6 great-grandchildren, Charlie, Ryleigh, Emma, Tyler, Joshua and Tina.

Thomas “Tommy” Marshall Gregson

Thomas “Tommy” Marshall Gregson, passed on Tuesday April 27, 2021 at Westchester Manor.

The family will receive friends on Sunday May 2, 2021 from 12:30pm until 1:45pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held on Sunday May 2, 2021 at 2:00pm at the funeral home, with Reverend Chris Thore and Reverend Chan Shaver officiating. Interment will follow services at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.

He was born in 1931 in Randolph County to the late Cletis (Barker) and Alfred Briles Gregson. He was married to Nellie “Rachel” Neill for 63 years. In addition to his parents, Tommy is preceded in death by two brothers: Norman and Allen Gregson.
 
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lori Coe and her husband Brian of Wallburg, NC, his only grandchild: David Marshall Joseph Coe, a brother: Larry and wife Shelia Gregson of Julian, NC, a sister-in-law: Sue Gregson of Randlemen, NC, two nephews: Dwight and Dwayne Gregson and many extended family and friends.

Mr. Gregson’s great grandmother is Hollen Briles Gregson.

Elsie Mae Sumner White

Elsie Mae Sumner White of Archdale, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 16, 2021.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sophia, NC.

Elsie was born on April 22, 1925 in Level Cross, NC to the late Robert Nelson Sumner and Ida Walker Sumner. 

She was married to Worth Peace White on December 19, 1942 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2003. Elsie was preceded in death by six brothers; Robert Nelson Sumner, Jr., Carl Sumner, Paul Sumner, Wayne Sumner, Doak Sumner, Don Sumner, and two sisters; Ruby (Bea) Sumner and Louie Sumner Walker.

She is survived three children, Janice (Jan) White Burge of Archdale; Joyce White Gamarra of Greensboro and Donald E. White and wife Maria of Archdale; two sisters Ruth Sumner Ives of Bowie, MD and Lea Sumner Donovan of Bethlehem, PA; seven grandchildren, Debbie Burge Cecil and husband Danny, Renee Burge Blake, Todd Ridge and wife Angie, Stephanie White Bailey and husband Wyatt, Dakota White, Kathryn White and Olivia White; four great grandchildren, Isabella, Lily and Lucy Ridge and Ewan Felder.

Mrs. White's grandmother is Sarah Briles Walker

Betty Elizabeth Kearns Smith

High Point – Betty Elizabeth Kearns Smith, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the Hospice Home at High Point.

The family will greet friends from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 15th at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road in Archdale. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Mark Kearns. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Betty was born in High Point on August 28, 1935 to the late George Howard Kearns and Anna Blanche Rush Kearns. In addition to her parents, her husband Donald Ray Smith, Sr.; her daughter, Jane Fitzgerald; two brothers, Hiatt and Gene Kearns; sister Anna Ruth Williams all preceded Betty in death.

Betty is survived by her son, Donald Ray Smith, Jr and wife, Rhonda of Raleigh; daughter, Penny Peace and husband, Joey of Archdale; brother, Jack Kearns and wife, Marilyn of High Point; son-in-law Tim Fitzgerald; grandchildren, John Hunt and wife, Angie, Aaron Smith, Hannah Smith, Seth Fitzgerald, Haley Love and husband, Dustin; great-grandchildren, Charlie Hunt, Haleigh Hunt, Karleigh Hunt, Kinsley Love and Maverick Love.

Mrs. Smith's great grandmother is Elizabeth Rebecca Briles Robbins and eight generations back to Mary Briles Rush.

James Lee Kinley Dies

Mr. James Lee Kinley, 69, of Charles Mountain Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Kinley will lie in state at Briggs Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, April15 at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Lorton officiating.

Born in Randolph County on August 21, 1951 to Joseph R. Kinley and Iva Summey Kinley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandchildren, Faith, Savannah, and Jessica Arnette; brothers, Stephen, Harold, and Don Kinley; sister, Ruth Ann Kinney.

He is survived by his wife, Neta Yow Kinley of the home; son; Douglas Kinley of Denton; daughters, Teena Royal and husband Michael of Denton and Jamie Arnette of Winston Salem; brothers, Larry and Winfred Kinley; sisters, Helen Shelley and Rebecca Lanier; 4 grandchildren, Michael James Royal, Victoria Brackett (Kevin), Joseph Dustin Arnette, and Dalton Lee Arnette; 2 great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Kynden Brackett.

Mr. Kinley's grandmother is Elsie Briles Summey. Also five generations back to Nancy Briles Kindley.

Rachel Briles Smith

 Rachel Ann Smith 50, passed April 5, 2021. 

A celebration of life will be held at Burlington Drive Freewill Baptist Church 1131 S Burlington Muncie, Saturday April 17th 4 to 5:15.

Rachel was born to Kindell and Juanita Briles on May 14, 1970 in Charlotte N.C.

Surviving include Son Richard Smith (Gaston), Ex-Husband Dwayne Smith (N.C.), Mother Juanita Briles (Muncie), two sisters, Faye Hannah husband Dennis (Muncie) and Bridget Gilley husband Daryl (Eaton), several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, great nieces and nephews along with many friends.

Christine Briles Bez Dies

Christine Lynn (Briles) Bez, 53, of Grayslake, Illinois, passed away at her residence on April 5, 2021, after a long struggle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2021, with visitation one hour prior at the First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson St., Anderson, with the Rev. Corinne Boruff officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park. Services are being held in Illinois on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 11 a.m. CDT at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1967, in Anderson, to Richard and Beverly (Fischer) Briles. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and one brother-in-law.

Christy is survived by her loving husband, Mark Bez; children, Emily and Logan Bez; parents, Richard and Beverly Briles; sister, Susan (Mat) Daoust; nephew and niece, Mason and Ryan Barnett; and many cousins and other family members.
