Loris Tillie Briles Dies

Loris Tillie Briles, age 85 of Nelsonville, passed away May 17, 2019 in Brenham, Texas. Visitation will be Monday, May 20, 2019 from 9–10 AM followed by Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at Nelsonville Brethren Church. Bro Michael Groseclose will officiate. Interment will follow at National Cemetery in Nelsonville. Born in Bleiblerville, Texas to Joseph and Tillie Mikeska on June 3, 1933. Loris is survived by her children, Joe Briles and wife Cherry, Vickie Winkelmann, Sandra Merz and husband Daniel and Susie Sandefer and husband Duane; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Tillie Mikeska; husband, Cotton Briles; grandson, Matt Hensley; brothers, Connie and Elden Mikeska; and sister-in-law, Arlene Mikeska.

Mrs. Opal Hill Helmstetler


Mrs. Opal Hill Helmstetler, 93, passed Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Hospice Home of High Point following a year of declining health. A Celebration of Opal's life will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplin Craig Walker. Entombment will follow in Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 noon until the service. Born in Randolph County, June 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Lacy Hill and Martha Sawyer Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Helmstetler and four siblings, Ruth Dowd, Herman Hill, Lucy Hawkins and Raymond Hill and a son in law, Randal Reid. Surviving are a daughter Brenda Reid; a granddaughter, Teresa Ward and husband Freddy; a grandson, David Reid; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Lewis, Paige Lewis and Natasha Ward; two great-great-grandchildren, Landon Lewis and Carter Thomas; brother, Joe Hill (Ruby); sister-in-law Beulah Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Ray Cox, age 83, of Asheboro succumbed to illness Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 16, 2019 from Noon-1:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The Memorial Service will follow Thursday at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Johnny R. Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Providence Friends Meeting Cemetery, Pleasant Garden. Born June 3, 1935 in Randleman, NC the son of Robert Lee and Bessie Briles Cox. He is survived by: son and his wife: Mark and Shelia Cox of Asheboro, NC; daughter and her husband: Debbie and Keith Collins of Johnson City, TN; daughters: Susan James and Lori Ratliff both of Johnson City, TN; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother and his wife: Burnis and Dolores Cox of Randleman; brother: Carroll Cox of Asheboro; brother and his wife: Norman "Fat" and Becky Cox of Asheboro, NC; sister and her husband: Doris and Clyde Cummings of Greensboro; sister and her husband: Peggy and Horace Edwards of Morganton, NC; sister and her husband: Margie and David Scott of Greensboro; brother and his wife: William "Pee Wee" and Margaret Cox of Greensboro; brothers: Roger Cox and David "Peak Top" Cox both of Greensboro, NC.

Odis Baxter Walker

Odis Baxter Walker, 96, of Archdale, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Hospice Home at High Point. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Deep River Church of Christ with Evangelist David Galloway and Evangelist John Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church. Born June 29, 1922, in Randolph, County, he was a son of the late Robert Walker and the late Eula Rush Walker.  Mr. Walker is survived by his children, James Leroy Walker and wife Cathy of Trinity, Judi Farlow and husband Joel of Trinity, Keith Morris and wife Judy of Tennessee, Brenda Luther of High Point, and Glenda Voigt and husband Robert of Wake Forest; brother, Jackie Walker and wife Priscilla of Trinity; sister, Ruth Wall and husband Melton of Randleman; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Morris Walker; daughter, Diane Amos; and nine brothers.

Darrell Warren Rush

Darrell Warren Rush, 69, of Tower Rd., Troy, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Atrium Healthcare Stanly in Albemarle.  A Memorial Service was held Sunday, May 5, 2019 at New Covenant Church in Troy. Born December 9, 1949, in Guilford County, the son of Lester and Beulah Shelton Rush. He is survived by his wife, Lequita Gibson Rush of the home; 3 sons, Andy Rush and wife Nicole of Clayton NC, Adam Rush and Ali Freeman of Troy, and Ben Rush and Meredith Williams of Mt. Gilead; 3 daughters, Alicia Higgins and husband Virgil of Mt. Gilead, Lanae Cranford and husband Brent of Troy, and Ondrea Rush of Troy; 3 brothers, Harold Rush, Farrell Rush and James Rush; 2 sisters, Vada Whitaker and Glenda Spaugh; he was the loving grandfather to Brianna, Chase, Justice, Drew, Greyden, Jocelyn, Zack, Kendall, Carly, Layla, Kaylin, Brenner, and Bradon.

Willie Harold Wall Dies

TRINITY - Willie Harold Wall, 77, died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his residence. Funeral service celebrating Willie’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2019, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service with Rev. Tim McCann officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:45 to 2:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service Born November 22, 1941, in Trinity and was the son of the late Charles Wilbur and Frances Rush Wall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Peggy Henley; and three brothers, Roy Wall, Roger Wall, and Charles Ray Wall. Willie is survived by a daughter, Robin Small of Trinity; sister, Betty Jo Pipes and husband, Robert, of Moravian Falls; brother, Doak Wilbur Wall and wife, Lillian, of Monroe, GA; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
