Lloyd Grant Kinley, 74, Dies


Mr. Lloyd Grant Kinley, 74 of Asheboro passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Meridian Center in High Point. 

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at New Grace Baptist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Donnie Lunsford officiating. The interment will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM.

Born November 17, 1946 in Guilford County to the late Paul Jarvis Kinley and Blanche Swaim Kinley. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Faye Hudson Kinley on January 14, 2015; three brothers, Bobby Gene Kinley, William Gerald Kinley, James Robert “JR” Kinley; two sisters, Helen Marie Kinley, Glenda Elizabeth Beckom

Surviving are his two sons, Buddy Kinley of Wilmington, NC and Marty Kinley and wife Hayde of Randleman, NC; three brothers, Barry Wayne Kinley of Winston Salem, Larry Swaim Kinley and Richard Jarvis Kinley, both of Trinity; one sister, Rachel Mae Kinley of Trinity; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Torri, Tiffany, Devyn, Kobe, Koda and Kendall.

Michael H. Briles Dies

Michael H. Briles, 69, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date.

Michael was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 11, 1951 to the late Herschel and Virginia Margaret (Colbert) Briles, preceded in death by his parents; by his brother, Maurice Eugene Briles; and by his brother-in-law, Richard Lynn Richter.

He is survived by his sisters, Glinda Raye Obermeir (Don) of Advance, North Carolina, Linda Richter of Evansville, IN, Paulette Renee Thomsen of Evansville, IN, and Rita Ann Smith (Keith) of Evansville, IN; brothers, Marlin Richard Briles (Elaine) of Evansville, IN, and Maynard Thomas Briles (Lori) of Evansville, IN; 7 nephews, 3 nieces; and by many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

Policy Change for Our Database/Web Page/Social Media

Due to a clinch in the genealogy software we use, the BIN is forced to change it's policy regarding updating the database. Effective January 12, 2021:

It is the policy of the BIN to update the database at least twice a month (15th & 29th). 

The BIN is also exploring the idea of creating a database on the Family Search Web Site,  A service provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We welcome any comments or suggestions about Family Search and/or the Church.

Betty L. Bickel

Betty L. Bickel, 89, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at her home in Corydon, IN. All services will be private.

She was born May 9, 1931 in Fowler, IN, the daughter of Herbert Woertz, Sr. and Thelma Briles Woertz. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Keith Bickel, a brother, Herbert Woertz, Jr. and sister, Donna Caughey. 

She is survived by a daughter Sue Ellen Cavins (Jim) and son, David Bickel (Beth) both of Corydon, IN; grandchildren, Jonathon Cavins (Amanda), Kristin Pavlik (Charles), Adam Bickel (Crystal) and Paul Bickel; great grandchildren, Graham and Burke Cavins, Kailee Flanders, Kade Pavlik, Makenzie and Hailie and Lexie Bickel. 

Her mother, Thelma Briles Woertz is the daughter of the late Bernard & Mary Hall Briles.

Mrs. Ida Rea Welborn Hughes

Mrs. Ida Rea Welborn Hughes, 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Henry Etta & Bruce Hinkle Hospice House. 

A private family graveside service will be held. Mrs. Hughes will lie in state at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM for members of the community to pay their respects.

Born on July 13, 1930 in Davidson County, NC to Carl Odell Welborn and Pearlie Mae Copple Welborn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jaffie Cletus Hughes, Sr. on December 26, 2002; six sisters, Martha Craven and husband Fred, Ruth Underwood and husband D.J., Edna Baugh and husband William, Lorene Hayes, Brenda Gallimore, and Ruby Carroll and husband Ray; and two brothers, Carl Odell Welborn, Jr. and Luther Welborn.

Surviving is her daughter, Jamie Hughes Huffman and husband Gary of Denton; son, Jaffie Cletus “J.C.” Hughes, Jr. and wife Betty of Raleigh; brother, John Welborn and wife Janice of Randleman; sisters, Helen Louise Byrd and husband Bobby and Betty Elkins, all of Archdale; and three grandchildren, Virginia Wyde and husband Jason of Angier, NC, Julie Marie Floyd of Lexington, and Bradley Cletus Hughes of Raleigh.

Brenda Joyce Loflin Blake Dies


Mrs. Brenda Loflin Blake, age 73 of Denton, NC died Thursday, January 14 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mrs. Blake will lie in state on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Lick Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Scott Davis and Rev. Sandy Young.

Brenda was born on December 17, 1947 in Davidson County to the late Calvin Loflin and Laurene Bean Loflin. 

She is survived by her husband, Roger Blake of the home; sister, Annette Loflin of Southport; brother, Clayton Loflin and wife Melanie of Denton; niece, Jenny Loflin; nephew, Will Loflin; close friend, Wanda Loflin.


Mrs. Blake's grandmother is Mamie Briles Loflin.

Phillip Lauren McDowell

Phillip Lauren McDowell, age 72, passed January 14, 2021.

Mr. McDowell will lie in repose on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 11:00 am-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 4:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Mason officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Randolph Memorial Park prior to the funeral service.

He was born on February 9, 1948 to Dallas and Clarice Farlow McDowell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clinton McDowell, and his sister Inez Welborn McDowell. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Morton McDowell; sons, Chris McDowell and wife Leah of Asheboro and Shannon McDowell of Alexandria, VA; brothers, Trellis McDowell and wife Deane of Trinity and Milton McDowell and wife Debbie of Denton; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Marie (Stone) Briles

Dorothy Marie (Stone) Briles , died unexpectedly in Jeffersonville, Indiana on January 9, 2021 at 21:55 at the age of 78. 

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the Kraft Chapel with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

Dorothy was born on June 21, 1942.Dorothy was survived and loved by her brother, Leroy Stone, daughters, Tonia Spanyer (Joseph), Trina Hutchinson (Shawn), Amy Briles/Benock (Jamie); 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, three siblings, and one grandchild.

Dorothy Miller Kindley, 93, of Lexington passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at her home.

Mrs. Kindley will lie in state on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons funeral home in Thomasville. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery

Dorothy was born on March 13, 1927 to the late Franklin D. Miller and Gertie R. Barrett Miller in Randolph County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Clemmon Kindley, Sr.; two sons, Albert Kindley, Jr., Darryl Kindley; two sisters, Maxine Gordon, Faye Miller; two brothers, Paul Miller, Junior Miller.

Surviving are seven children, Brenda Blanchard (Tommy), Barbara Riffe (Marcus), Sylvia York (Darrell), Irene Land (Kenny), Donna Tansey (Gerry), James Kindley, Elizabeth Lilly (Rodney); daughter-in-law, Linda Kindley; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Dickens (Carl), Jewell Dunn, Carol Briles; numerous nieces, and nephews.

Robert Lee McDowell


DENTON - Robert Lee McDowell, 83 of  Denton, NC died Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at Pleasant Union Community Church at 2635 Pleasant Union Road, Denton conducted by the Rev. Danny Miller and the Rev. Ricky Payne. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will see friends at Pleasant Union Community Church from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Mr. McDowell was born January 13, 1937 in Randolph County to Val McDowell and Lizzle Freedle McDowell. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother Waton McDowell and a sister Alice Hornady. 
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Klass McDowell of the home; a son, Gary McDowell and wife Joann of Thomasville; a grandson, Dustin McDowell and wife Ashley of Greensboro; great-granddaughter Bella; brother, Donald McDowell and wife Judy of Denton; sisters, Emma Payne, Lillie Buie and Becky Moore and husband Bill all of High Point, Margie Lail and Brenda Tucker and husband David all of Denton.

Eunice Marie Trotter McElreath, 91, of Denton, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton.

Mrs. McElreath will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home.Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Pleasant Union Community Church Cemetery, Denton, with Rev. Danny Miller officiating. 

Born in Randolph County, NC, on May 15, 1929, Mrs. McElreath was the daughter of the late Roby W. and Nellie Tysinger Trotter. 

In addition to her parents, Eunice is preceded in death by her husband, Lee McElreath; sister, Ida Kearns, Martha Swaney; and brother, George Trotter.

Mrs. McElreath is survived by her daughter, Pat King and husband Roger of Denton; sons, Jimmy McElreath and wife Pam of Boone, NC, John McElreath and wife Becky of Denton, Greg McElreath and wife Amanda of Denton; sister, Grace Smith of Denton; grandchildren, Jennifer Jordan and husband Andy, Annette Manns and husband Steve, Kevin King, Steven King and wife Ashlee, Jason McElreath, Lynnea Dunlap and husband Sean, Austin McElreath, Evan McElreath and wife Katie; and 11 great grandchildren.

Richard "Rick" Richter Dies


Evansville, Ind. - Richard "Rick" Richter, 74, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Cynthia Hopper and Jolayne Richter; and by his brother, Dennis Richter.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held at a later date.

Rick was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 12, 1946 to the late Gilbert and Rowena (Bennett) Richter. United States Navy Veteran. 

Rick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda (Briles) Richter; son, Jason Richter and his fiancée, Crystal of Yankeetown, IN; 9 grandchildren who only knew him as "PopPop Rick", Nicole, Hailey, Jake, Hunter, Laekyn, Sutton, Mattie, Gage and Taylor; brothers, David Richter (Becky) of St. Wendel, IN and Steve Richter of Evansville, IN; and by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mr. Stephen (Steve) Robert Kinley, 60, a resident of Ross Wood Road, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Joe Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Kinley and Don Kinley; and a sister, Ruth Ann Kinney.

Surviving are his children, Preston Kinley of the home, Sterling Kinley of Southern Pines; and Stephanie Kinley of Raleigh; grandchildren, Lilly Kinley, Isaac Kinley and Ellie Britt; brothers, Larry Kinley and wife Barbara of Trinity, Winfred Kinley of Denton, and James Kinley and wife Neta of Denton; and sisters, Helen Shelley of Thomasville and Rebecca (Becky) Lanier and husband Jeff of Denton.

Mr. Kinley's grandmother is Elsie Briles Summey.
