Virginia Lee Briles Gardner Dies
Virginia Lee Briles Gardner, 87, Hartford, died on December 19, 2016, at the Life Care Center in Burlington.
Memorial Services were held Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Hartford United Methodist Church. Inurnment followed in the Lena Valley Cemetery. Born on January 13, 1929, at Richter, Kansas, to John Charles and Dessie Duvall Briles. On June 9, 1951, she married Daniel R. Gardner, who survives; preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Dorothy Apgar and Beth Gentry, and a grandson. Also survived by four sons, George (Sharon) Gardner, St. George, Fred (Jackie) Gardner, Garnett, David (Nancy) Gardner, Newton, Vernon Gardner, Luellen, NE, two daughters, Mary Hoover, Lyons, and Elizabeth (Kevin) Fox, Syracuse, a sister, Beverly Swenson, Broomfield, CO, 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Hannah Hepler Watford
Hannah Hepler Watford, 94, of Denton Road, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County. A graveside service will be held, Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 3:00 pm in the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. David Bowman officiating. There will not be a formal visitation.Born on September 22, 1922 in Davidson County, NC to the late Earl Henderson Hepler Sr. and Martha Hanner Hepler. Along with her parents, Hannah was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Watford; a sister, Hope Hepler; two brothers, James Stuart Hepler, and Earl Hepler, Jr. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, and other special family members.

Harold Franklin Pierce
Harold Franklin Pierce, 71, of Seagrove, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017, at New Center Christian Church with Rev. Jonathan Burris and Pastor Jason Frank officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born November 1, 1945 in Randolph County, Mr. Pierce was the son of the late Rayford and Cleadel Garner Pierce. Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife, Martha McNair Pierce of the home; son, Tommy Ray Pierce and wife, Tonya of Lexington; sisters, Norma Ann Clark and husband, Jerry of Petersburg, VA, Geraldine Hicks and husband, Lloyd of Seagrove, Vickie Brown and husband, Benjy of Seagrove; brother, Darrell Pierce and wife, Diane of Seagrove;,and grandchildren, Joshua Thomas Pierce and Kayleigh Mae Pierce, both of Lexington.

Astor Summey Dies, Mother is Gertrude Briles
William Astor Summey, 94, of Asheboro, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Mt. Vista Health Park in Denton.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2017, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Joe Yates officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A private burial will be held at Randolph Memorial Park at a later date. Born January 5, 1923 in Randolph County, Mr. Summey was the son of the late Jesse and Gertrude Briles Summey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Allene Crotts Summey; and his daughter, Janice Allene Summey. Survived by his son, William L. Summey and wife, Harriett of Asheboro; sisters, Velna Rider and husband, Astor of Silver Valley, Eva Hill of Thomasville; grandchildren, Dana Moose and husband, Whit Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Brent Summey of Asheboro; great-grandchildren, Jacob Moose, KayDee Summey, Blaise Astor Summey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Texas-Army Pvt. Paige Fontenot Briles Found Unresponsive in Vehicle at Fort Hood Housing in Texas; death ruled a Suicide. Below is her death notice. She was once married to Joshua "Yeshua" Briles, however he is not listed in the notice.
Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Paige Elizabeth Fontenot, 21 years, who died Saturday, December 24, 2016. She will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Chaplain Munoz officiating the services.
She is survived by her parents, John and Terri Fontenot of Kaplan; one sister, Nikkie Fontenot of Kaplan; and her paternal grandparents, John and Linda Fontenot of Kaplan.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 8:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Friday, January 6, 2017 from 8:00 AM until services.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 at 2:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bruce Dayton officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Alex Brittain, Brent Cook, Dwayne Carswell, Bob Gordon, Wesley Helton and Hunter Thompson. Born August 29, 1937 in Alamance County to the late John Alvis and Myrtle Stine McAdams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Lloyd Briles; her daughter Vicki Ann Briles. She is survived by her daughter Sandi Briles Wagner of Taylorsville; her son Rick Briles and wife Cindy of Catawba; grandchildren Amanda Briles of Phoenix, AZ , Haley Walker and Wesley Helton of Mt. The funeral will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Marlboro Friends Meeting, 2668 Marlboro Church Road, Sophia, with Rev. Ray Luther officiating. Burial will follow in the Meeting Cemetery.Born June 10, 1947 the son of the late Wade Talmadge and Audrey Pierce Rich. Native of Randolph County. he was preceded in death by his wife: Elizabeth Ann Rich. Survived by two sons: Bryan Rich and his wife, Laurie of Greensboro, NC and Eric Rich and his wife Bia of Asheboro, NC; three grandchildren: Alexandria Rich, Cole Rich and Cannon Rich; three brothers: Lloyd Rich and his wife, Libby of Greensboro, NC, Boyd Rich and his wife Sandra of Greensboro, NC and Ernie Rich and his wife, Lois of Berkley, CA.

Dorothy B. Apgar, 95, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016, at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Anderson Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Interment will be in the Apgar Family burial plot, at Riverside Cemetery, in Marshalltown. Born December 29, 1920 to Dessie and Charles Briles on a farm north of Ottawa, Kansas. Survived by her husband, Pat and a son, Tom Apgar both of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by a son, John at age 28, and a sister, Beth.

Born November 21 1952 in Davidson County to Charlie Odell Nance and Ruby Wardlaw Nance. She is survived by her husband Jimmy D. Hill of the home; daughters, Lisa H Freeman and husband Warren and Jennifer Hill all of Denton; grandchildren Stone, Josie and Jenni; brothers, John Nance and wife Marilyn of Trinity, Tom Nance and wife Kim of Thomasville; sisters, Sherry Bumgarner and husband Pete of Thomasville, Gina Fidler and husband Scott of Raleigh and her beloved dog Honey.
