Betsy Ann Grimsley Brandes

 Betsy Ann Grimsley Brandes, age 83, of Asheboro passed away September 20, 2023.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

She was born May 1, 1940 in Randolph County the daughter of the late Otis Grimsley and Pearl Hoover. She is also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Jimmy Grimsley.

Frances Lee Pierce Tesh

 


Frances Lee Pierce Tesh, 94, of Asheboro, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Bryant Madren officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Ridge Funeral Home prior to the service.


Mrs. Tesh was born July 15, 1929, in Randolph Co., NC, and was the daughter of the late Frank Melvin and Nancy Emily Peele Pierce.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Tesh was preceded in death by her husband, David "D.R." Tesh, Jr., her son Gary Tesh, her brothers, Raeford Pierce and Jack Pierce, and her sister, Allene Yow.


Mrs. Tesh is survived by her daughter, Patricia Tesh Norton (Ralph) of Asheboro; sons, Ronald Tesh (Lynn) of Asheboro, David Tesh (Karen) of Kernersville; sister, Ina Mae Hill of Thomasville; grandchildren, David Tesh, Sam Tesh, Jennifer Richardson, Amanda Cromartie, Amber Johnson, Jamie Johnston, Stephanie Norton, Courtney Wilson, Neil Tesh, Carlee Tesh, Pierce Tesh, MaryFrances Tesh, Mitchell Tesh, Jacob Tesh, Gabe Tesh, Miriam Tesh; 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

John Richard "Rick" Skeen

John Richard "Rick" Skeen, 70, of Asheboro, died Thursday, September 14, 2023, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tim Pheagin officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

Born on July 6, 1953 in Randolph County, son of the late J.D. Skeen and Donna Hoover Skeen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Holly Skeen.

He is survived by his wife Linda Latham Skeen of the home; daughter, Tonya Skeen of Asheboro; son, Dustin Skeen of Asheboro; son-in-law, Bradly Hargett of Asheboro; sister, LeAnn Marsh of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Darian Skeen, Daniel England, Christian Davis, Aaron Davis, Isaac Hargett, Katen Francis; great grandchild, Serena England.

Phyllis Marie Briles Lucian


Phyllis Marie Briles Lucian, 89, of Beloit passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023. 

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Floral Lawn Cemetery.

Born February 15, 1934, in Keithsburg, Illinois, the daughter of John and Alwilda Margaret (Orbenour) Briles.

 She married David Charles Lucian on June 24, 1961. Survived by her brothers, Paul Briles and Frank Briles; sons, Laurence Lucian and David Lucian Jr.; step-daughters, Marilyn (Don) Lucian Downing and Carolyn Lucian Faust; 6 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, David Lucian, sisters, Frances Abbadusky and Margaret Emma Ward and son, Mark.

Kinsley Pleads No Contest to Murder, Will Serve 25 years


Devante C. Kinsley, 31, on June 21, 2023 appeared before Manatee County Circuit Judge Frederick P. Mercurio and pleaded no contest to second-degree murder of Michael Briles. Michael Briles was murdered during an armed robbery on Oct. 17, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida. The plea allowed Kinsley to avoid a first degree murder charge and potential life in prison. He will serve 25 years in prison.

Elizabeth Ann Hunt, 86, of Asheboro, died Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Visitation, 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM, Sunday, Richland Baptist Church, Asheboro and other times at the residence. Funeral Services, 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Richland Baptist Church, Asheboro; Officiating, Rev. Tommy Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Elizabeth was a native and lifelong resident of Randolph County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Cramer Hunt, parents, Tennyson and Bertie Phillips Hunt, sister, Myrtle Kindley and brothers, Kenneth, Grady, Paul, Willard, Eugene, Larry, Jerry and Raeford Hunt.

Survivors: daughters, Carol Humble (Glenn), Deborah White (Larry), Vickie Gearren, Ginger Bryant, all of Asheboro, son, Dwight Hunt, of Asheboro, brother, Wesley Hunt, of Farmer, grandchildren, Anthony Humble (Melody), Renee Brady (Chris), Ryan Welch (Laura), Anna Newsome (Darren), Joshua Gearren (Taylor Chensy), Steven Bryant (Julie), fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.


It should be noted that Mrs. Hunt's father is Tennyson Wesley Hunt. The BIN has sources/proof that he is the son of Wesley H. Briles (Tennyson has his middle name). The story is that Wesley was killed in a saw mill accident in 1901 before Tennyson was born. Julia Hunt gave her maiden name to Tennyson because Wesley was killed before they were married.

Janice Briles Harrison



Janice Briles Harrison passed August 28, 2023. She was born August 20, 1943. Surviving are her children, Christina and Mike and was married to Jerry Harrison. According to the funeral home there will be no services. Direct cremation. The family may hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Curtis "Tedd" Daniels


Mr. Curtis “Tedd” Daniels, 56, of Thomasville passed away Saturday evening, August 19, 2023. 

A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons funeral home in Thomasville. 

Tedd was born September 27, 1966 to David Buren Daniels and Joann Kindley Loflin in Davidson County. 

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Glenn Loflin. In addition to his mom and dad, left to cherish his memory are his two children, Zane Daniels and wife Tania of TX, Paige Daniels of Thomasville; a sister, Tamara Daniels; a brother, Todd Daniels and wife Murielle; a grandchild, Mirabelle Daniels.

Richard Guy Small


Richard Guy Small, 72, passed away August 12, 2023 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. He was born February 11, 1951 to Guy Marcus Small and Joy Ruth (Briles) Small.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 1-2pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main St in Randleman. Other times the family will be at the home of his mother, 605 Walter Meadows Rd, Randleman, NC. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 2 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel at Randleman with Reverend Ken McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Randolph County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.

Veteran of the US Army and served during Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen Hackett Small of Climax; mother, Joy Ruth Briles Small of Level Cross; sister-in-law, Sherrie Hackett of Randleman; brother-in-law, Jerry Wolfe; nieces, Shannon (Greg) Hamby, Janet (Rodney) White; nephews, Chase Jackson, Junior Allred; great-nieces/nephews; David Ellis III, Morgan Spencer, Kaylee (Reece) Daniel, Hudson Daniel, Rhett Daniel, Hunter (Allison) Hamby, Morgan Hamby, Wyatt White; great-great-nephews, Carson Locklear, Carter Locklear, Chayden Locklear, Camden Locklear. He is preceded in death by his father, Guy Small.

Jeffery “Jeff” Lee Briles

Jeffery “Jeff” Lee Briles, 66, Greentown, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday August 2, 2023, at Century Villa in Greentown. 

The family will be having an intimate graveside service on August 7,2023, where Military honors will be provided by the United States Airforce and the Greentown American Legion Post 317.

Born March 22, 1957, in Marion to Martha Maxine (Stackhouse) Briles. Veteran of the United States Airforce for 4 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Marjorie Stroup, and niece, Christina “Chrissy” Briles.

He is survived by his children Jeromy Briles, Jody (Ember) Briles, and Tiffany (Tim) Hitchcock; grandchildren, Tamara Berg, Isaac Briles, Emery Briles, Kenna Briles, Tinsley Hitchcock, and Tanner Hitchcock; great-granddaughter, Shyla Briles; siblings, Jim (Donna) Briles, Cindy (Dave) Smith, and John (Reggie) Briles; brother-in-law, Denny Stroup; sister-in-law, Jill Briles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family including his ex-wife; Teresa (Bob) Cauble.

Update: James Melvin Briles married Martha Stackhouse and they had two children. Then divorced and Jeff was born to Martha after James Melvin remarried and moved to California. We have no info on who is Jeff’s father. He is not mentioned in James Melvin Briles death notice and James Melvin Briles isn’t mentioned in Jeff’s. The BIN is confident Jeff is not James Melvin Briles son. We will leave this notice up as a reference but adjust the main page and database.
