Kinsley Pleads No Contest to Murder, Will Serve 25 years


Devante C. Kinsley, 31, on June 21, 2023 appeared before Manatee County Circuit Judge Frederick P. Mercurio and pleaded no contest to second-degree murder of Michael Briles. Michael Briles was murdered during an armed robbery on Oct. 17, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida. The plea allowed Kinsley to avoid a first degree murder charge and potential life in prison. He will serve 25 years in prison.

UPDATE: Murder of Michael Briles in Florida

Devante C. Kinsley, 28, has been formally charged with the murder of Michael Briles. On October 14, 2020, Kinsley waived his right to arraignment in Manatee County Circuit Court and a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He is charged with second degree murder with a firearm and armed robbery with a firearm, both are life offenses. Kinsley co-thug, Tyler Sagar was formally charged with principal to second degree murder with a firearm after waiving his inital appearance on July 21st. Sagar did not fight extradition from Michigan, however Kinsley fough it and lost. Michael Briles was murdered during an armed robbery on Oct. 17, 2020 in Bradenton, Florida. Two Arrested for the Murder of Michael Briles

Captain Brian Thiers of the Bradenton Police Department announced earlier this evening that Devante C. Kinsley and Tyler A. Sager are in custody and have been charged with the first degree murder of Michael Briles. Both are being extradited back to Manatee County in Florida to stand trial. 

On Oct. 17, 2019 police in Bradenton, Florida, found 30-year-old Michael Briles dead inside his apartment. After several months of investigation, Bradenton Police, Special Agents from the FBI, the Michigan State Police Emergency Services Team, and the Saginaw Police Department assisted with the investigation and arrest. Tinsley is 27 years old and Sager 21. Evidence from the crime was also located during the arrest of Tinsley and Sager and the motive appears to be robbery.
