Joyce Marie (McLennan) Briles

Joyce Marie (McLennan) Briles, 94, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023. A funeral service will be held  at 2:00PM, Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the Church of Christ in Throckmorton with Mr. Royce Priddy officiating. Burial will follow at the Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Throckmorton.

Mrs. Briles was born October 28, 1928, in Haskell County, to Cecil and Robert E. McLennan. She was the youngest of 6 children. She was married to Charles Dalton Briles, in 1950 in Lake Worth, TX. They married January 5, 1951, in Texarkana, Arkansas, and were together 60 years until his passing in 2011.


She leaves behind 3 children, Charles Steven Briles and wife Debbie of Crowley, TX, Edward Keith Briles and wife Katrina of Throckmorton, TX, Charlotte Norman and husband Les of Throckmorton, TX; 6 grandchildren, Marissa Briles of Ft. Worth, Bridget Briles, Hayley Briles of Throckmorton, TX, Heidi Briles Vazquez and husband Carlos of Arlington, TX, Jerrad Norman and wife Nicki of Amarillo, TX, Sam Norman and wife Haven of Reagan, TX; 6 great grandchildren, Beau Briles, Lynnley and Emory Norman, Knox Norman, Carlos Jr., Noah, and Ivory Vazquez.

Kevin John Briles Dies

Kevin John Briles, 63, of Bloomington passed away on January 16, 2023 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. With Rev Alan Phillips Officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 23, 2023, and from 10:00 AM to service time Tuesday, January 24, 2023 both at the church.

He was born September 30, 1959 in Martinsville, Indiana the son of John Riley and Dolores Ann (Calhoun) Briles. He married Terri Kay Ranard on October 29, 2005 in Bloomington, Indiana. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dolores Briles; his wife Terri Briles who passed away on December 23, 2022.

Kevin is survived by his children, Travis Briles of Spencer; Josh Briles of Bloomington; Mackenzie (Trey) Smith of Loogootee; Brandi (Shawn) Langley of Spencer; James Ranard of Bedford; five grandchildren, Shawn Austin Langley; Nickolas Langley; Brenna Langley; Katelyn Nichols and Ryan Langley; and two great grandchildren, Jackson Langley and Garrison Langley; a brother, Craig (Marci) Briles of Bloomington; and four nephews.

Dolores Jean (Briles) Wiley


Dolores Jean Wiley, 90, Springfield, MO passed away Saturday, January 7th, 2023. 

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial to follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services, from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.

She was born August 16th, 1932, to Sylvian and Nettie Wood Briles. 
Dolores was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband: Dan H. Wiley, her son: Gary Jones, and her daughter: Sharol Cook. Dolores is survived by her son: Richard Wiebe, her daughter: Carol Cook, her daughter: Brenda Cook, her daughter Lisa Moore, her sister: Carol Collison, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

Larry Wayne Walker

TRINITY – Larry Wayne Walker, 72, died Sunday, January 1, 2023, at his residence.

Funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will be private. Private burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation but the body will lie in repose from 12:00 to 2:00PM Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the Chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

He was born May 5, 1950, in High Point and was the son of Barbara Ann Hurst Walker and the late Glenn Lee Walker. 

Larry is survived by his daughter, Tracy Zimmerman of Virginia; grandson, Landon Zimmerman; mother, Barbara Hurst Walker of Archdale; sister, Carolyn “Carol” Taylor of Jefferson; two nieces, Sherri Powers and Karen Bell (Darren), both of Hamptonville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Terri Kay (Ranard) Briles, 68, of Bloomington, IN passed away on December 23, 2022 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2022 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Visitation will be Thursday, December 29, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.

Born April 14, 1954 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Norma J. (Swafford) Ranard. She married Kevin Briles on October 29, 2005 in Bloomington, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Terri is survived by her husband, Kevin, her children; James Ranard, Brandi (Shawn) Langley, Travis Briles, Josh Briles and Mackenzie (Trey) Smith; five grandchildren; Shawn Austin Langley, Nickolas Langley, Brenna Langley, Katelyn Nichols and Ryan Langley and two great grandchildren, Jackson Langley and Garrison Langley; a brother, Bobby Jay Ranard; three sisters, Sue Carpenter, Judy Sullivan and Becky Taylor.

Donna Kay Hulin Mabe


Mrs. Donna Kay Hulin Mabe, (Nana), 73, a resident of Bonnie Regan Road, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends on Tuesday prior to the service from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
She was born on September 13, 1949 in Davidson County, NC to Henry and Addie Hulin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Stephan (Steve) Mabe on February 7, 2016, whom she married on August 12, 1966; her brother, Robert (Bud) Hulin; and her sister, Gladys Hulin Brown.
Surviving is her son, Keith Mabe and wife Kristy of High Point; and her two grandchildren, Kalin Mabe and Kadie Mabe.

John Lee Edwards Dies, His Wife Betsy Briles Survives


John Lee Edwards, 64, of Asheboro, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter Kristen Edwards. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery.

Mr. Edwards was born on July 26, 1958 in Randolph County to the late Arnold and Gladys Yow Edwards.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his brother, Frankie Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Briles Edwards of the home; daughters, Beverly Edwards Blalock (Chris) of Asheboro, Kristen Dawn Edwards (Chris) of Asheboro; sister, Shelby Smithwick of Poquoson, VA; grandchildren, Christopher Blalock, Kayla Ann McGuine, Kaylee Elizabeth Fultz, and Carter Matthew Fultz.

Gene “Papa” Larry Briles

Gene “Papa” Larry Briles on December 8, 2022, in his home.

Gathering at Viegut Funeral Home at 1616 North Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, Colorado on January 6th from 11am to 1pm. Military honors will begin at approximately 11:30am. In the spring Mr. Briles will be buried in the family plot outside Leroy, Kansas, next to his father, Max and brother, Wayne.

Gene was born in 1947 to Max and Mildred Briles in San Bernardino, California on March 15th. Veteran of the US Army, he married Hazel Jean Piatt in September of 1967, which later ended in divorce in November 1989.

He was survived by his two children Becky and Eric, his grandchildren Hope and Domenic, and his mother, Mildred and sister, Diana.
