Norman Austin Briles Dies

YELM, Wash.-Norman Austin Briles, 85, formerly of Plainville, passed away peacefully at home on May 8. A graveside service, Rev. Alfred Helms officiating, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Plainville Cemetery in Indiana. Born Sept. 29, 1928, in Epsom, to the late Austin and Helen (Scott) Briles. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Verda M. (Burkhart) Briles; a daughter, Cathy E. Briles of Overland Park, Kansas; a son, Douglas J. (Mary) Briles of Yelm; and a half brother, Bill Dawson. Preceded in death by his sister, Ramona Smiley; two half brothers James and Gene Dawson; and a half sister, Nancy Hinkle.

Arrangements are being made through Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home.

Ramona Briles Smiley Dies

Ramona A. Briles Smiley, 81, of Plainfield, passed away June 5, 2013. Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in the Our Shepherd Lutheran Church Born February 28, 1932 to the late Austin and Helen (Scott) Briles in Plainville, IN. Survived by two daughters, Tina M. Hand and Tresa A. (Gary) Strakis; two brothers, Norman Briles and Bill Dawson; 4 grandchildren, Joshua (Megan) Hand, Matthew Hand, Andrew and Rebecca Strakis; 2 great grandchildren, Lauren Hand and Spencer Pippen; and Rosie the dog. She was preceded in death by her husband, William I. Smiley, a brother, Gene Dawson and a sister, Nancy Hinkle.
