Kaylin Rae Messer, age 17, Dies, Grandmother Peggy Briles Preceded Her in Death


Kaylin Rae Messer, age 17 of Mecosta, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 14, 2020. A memorial gathering will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Kandy’s home in Mecosta, MI. Cremation and care entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, MI. 

Born January 6, 2003, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Tony and the late Feliciana (Catlin) Messer. Preceded in death by her mother, paternal grandmother Peggy Briles, paternal grandfather Lee (Mary) Messer, brother Johnathan Corey, two uncles James and Chad Catlin, aunt Elnora Catlin, and brother-in-law Jeremiha Dumansky. 

Kaylin is survived by her father Tony (Maria) Messer of Big Rapids; three brothers, John Near IV of Buckley, Tony Messer Jr. of Mecosta, and Nick Koch of Big Rapids; four sisters, Amanda Dumansky of Muskegon, Melissa (Josiah) Killingbeck of Luther, Skylar (Christopher) Butler of Big Rapids, and Brittany Koch of Flint; maternal grandparents, Barry Sr. and Julia Catlin of Reed City; aunts and uncles, Conie (Garry) Stewart of Arkansas, Kandy (Howard) White of Mecosta, Stacey (Charlie) Beemer of Mecosta, April (Mike) Hansen of Mecosta, Kevin (Shara) Olsen of Stanwood, Sam (Tammy) Olsen of Rodney, Brandy (Carl Warren) Olsen of Rodney, and Frankie (Denny) Webster of Luther; seven nieces and nephews, Adrianna, Madelyn, Luka, Daniel, Ayla, Lily, Ahbri, and one niece on the way; boyfriend, Malachi Cushman; her partner in crime, Kamren Kempher; and many cousins and friends.
