Rev. Cleta Briles Evans

GERMANTON - The Rev. Cleta Briles Evans, 87, passed March 15, 2006, at Walnut Cove Nursing Center in Walnut Cove. Born in Randolph County on Aug. 12, 1918, the daughter of Troy Briles and Geneva "Neva" Pierce Briles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, the Rev. Ora Spencer Evans, in February 2006; her stepfather, Samuel A. Lowe Sr.; two brothers, Worth and Wade Briles; and a sister, Edith Norman. The Rev. Evans is survived by a son, Ora Spencer Evans Jr.; daughter Patsy Evans Newton and husband Darrell; son Samuel D. Evans and wife Patricia; five grandchildren, Deirdre Evans Martin, Chris D. Newton, Chad P. Newton, Lauren E. Evans and Lindsay K. Evans; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jack and Luke Newton; and a half brother; Sam Lowe Jr. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall, with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, March 16, at the funeral home.
