Jewel McClintock Barker Dies
Jewel McClintock Barker, age 95, of Climax passed Monday, January 10, 2011 at Clapp's Nursing Center, Inc., Pleasant Garden, NC. Funeral services will be at Providence Friends Meeting at 2:00 PM. Friday, January 14, 2011 with Rev. Charles R. Adams and Rev. Brandon Dockery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Liberty, NC on March 2, 1915 and resided in Randolph County; preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Donna McClintock; husband, C.P. Barker; son, Tommy Barker; brothers, Jimmy, Otis, Herman and Voight McClintock and sister Mabel M. Henderson. Survived by son: Charles Barker and wife Joann of Climax, NC; daughter-in-law Betty Barker of Randleman; brother: Herbert McClintock ( Nancy) of Greensboro, NC; brother-in-law, George Barker (Annie) of Climax, NC; sisters-in-law, Mabel Ferree, Myrtle McClintock and Juanita McClintock; grandchildren: Jimmy Barker (Amada), Tammy Wright (Tommy), Penny Pinnix, Sherry Barr, Annette Robbins (David), Lisa Freeman (James), Angie Murphy (Mark); great grandchildren: Matthew (Brittany), Nathan and Jordan Wright, Omar and Salome Barker, Daniel ( Candace) and Erin Pinnix, Charlie Robbins, Kennedy, Henry and Margaret Freeman and Drew Murphy; great great grandchildren: Jeremiah and Anira Wright and Kylie Pinnix.

Carlos Ray Lewallen Dies
HIGH POINT - Mr. Carlos Ray Lewallen, 82 of Cedarwood Trail, passed Saturday January 8, 2011 at his home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Wallburg; Rev. Jack Rose and the Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Born in Randolph County on April 28, 1928 to Roy Jordan and Ella Mae Willard Lewallen, preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, two sisters; an infant daughter, Carlos Naomi Lewallen; a son-in-law, David L. Chestnutt, Sr.; and a grandson, David Lee Chestnutt, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Naomi Bodenhamer Lewallen of the home; daughter, Joann Lewallen Chestnutt of High Point; and a son, Steven Ray Lewallen and his significant other, Kathy of the home; a sister, Peggy Simmons and husband, J.C. of Trinity; one sister-in-law, Carrie Lewallen of Archdale; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Colleen Briles Dies
Colleen Sylvia Briles, age 64, died Dec. 26, 2010 in Oakland, California. Mrs. Briles was born July 30, 1946 in California to the Ray & Lily Briles. She is preceded in death by her father, Ray Briles who died in 1992. Survivng are her chidlren Rachel and Robert Briles-Booker and mother Lily Briles; one sister of Sharon Briles. The late Ray Briles is the son of Larkin & Bell Coffee Briles.

Shirley Byerly Hylton, age 75, passed Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Hinkle Hospice Home. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, Jan 9, 2011at 1:30 PM in Holly Hill Memorial Park; Rev. Mitch Hayworth officiating. Born Feb 24, 1935 in Davidson Co. NC daughter of the late Ernest Paul Byerly and Bertha Hunt Byerly. She was married Jan 31,1981 to Mr. Bobby Hylton who survives of the home. Also surviving are, One daughter, Tami Harris of High Point; One sister, Ava Nifong of Thomasville; Two Grandchildren, Chase Conrad and Jordyn Summers.-JC Greens

Mr. Charles Edward Lax, age 79, of Denton, NC passed Tuesday, January 4 at his residence. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel; Rev. Chris Smith. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born May 22, 1931 in Davidson County to Henry C. Lax and Lizzie Lanier Lax. Preceded in death by his wife, Frances Starr Lax who died March 7, 2001. Survived by daughters, Jenny Fowler and Kim Smith both of Denton; a brother, Joe Lax and sisters Doris Cook and Carleen Terrell all of Denton; grandchildren, Tina Chamberlin, Jessica Smith and Josh Smith and a great grandchild, Lizzie Chamberlin.

Nellie Davis Lee passed Monday, January 3, 2011. A celebration service will be held Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 2 P.M. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel; Mr. Jim Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow in Fair Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born in Thomasville, August 7, 1924 a daughter of the late George and Hattie Thomas Davis. Mrs. Lee is the great granddaughter of John Warwick Thomas, founder of the City of Thomasville. Preceded in death by a brother, Julius and sister, Louise. Surviving are her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Paul Lee of the home; a daughter, Vicki Floyd of Thomasville; a son, Terry Lee and wife Cinda Lou) of Thomasville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Berlene Dunn Rush Knight, 75, of Asheboro, NC, passed Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel; Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Grove Community Church Cemetery in Asheboro. Native of Moore County, NC, Mrs. Knight was born March 25, 1935; preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Rush, her second husband, Bill Knight, and her daughter, Ruby Lavone Rush Hinson. Survived by her daughters, Sandra Knight and husband, Jessie, of Asheboro, NC, Teresa Parrish and husband, Roger, of Trintiy, NC; son, Ricky Rush and wife, Dianne, of Sophia, NC; sister, Martha Sue Miller, of Fayetteville, NC; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Chris Cornette and Dr. Roland Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Mrs. Lewallen is the daughter of the late Norman Glenn Nance and Mary Hattie Jackson Nance; predeceased by her husband Jack Douglas Lewallen, brothers Shirley and Reitzel Nance, and two great-grandsons. Survived by her daughters, Dolly Jennings (Danny) and Gloria McDowell (Bobby); brother Max Nance (Lorene); sister Jewel Ridgeway; grandsons Daniel Jennings, Dale Jennings, Derric Jennings (Sheri), David Jennings (Mandy), Dustin Jennings (Shelley), Drew Jennings, Dylon Jennings, and Kevin McDowell (Leslie); and granddaughters Daryn Jennings Harrell (John), Devyn Jennings Cornette (Chris), Danya Jennings Parrish (David), and Karen McDowell Cox (Jack), and 20 great-grandchildren.
