The BIN has retrieved a death notice for Gerald Briles, son of Howard and Hazel Briles, who passed on September 26, 2009. Howard appears to be the son of Arthur & Adelle Briles. Arthur's father is from IL and mother is from KY. The BIN is attempting to identify this lineage. Lula Kathleen Floyd Hill Dies

The Briles Information Network has learned of the passing of Lula Kathleen "Kat" Floyd Hill, 75, of Trinity, who passed on October 5, 2009. Mrs. Hill is the daughter of the late Cicero and Lula Williams Floyd. Below is the death notice for Mrs. Hill.

TRINITY-Lula Kathleen "Kat" Floyd Hill, 75, passed Monday, October 05, 2009 at her residence. Funeral 2 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Hopewell United Methodist Church; Rev. Toni Ruth Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. Born October 11, 1933 in Randolph County, daughter of the late Cicero and Lula Williams Floyd. Preceded in death by her husband Howard Hill on February 25, 1989 (m.August 16, 1952). She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Floyd, Helen Robbins and Ruth Royals; and three brothers, Paul Floyd, Cicero Floyd and Howard Floyd. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Sims, of Trinity; grandson, Jason Sims, of Trinity; two sisters, Dorothy Brower and Jean Floyd, both of Trinity; a brother, Charlie Floyd and wife, Mildred, of Thomasville; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Floyd, of Thomasville, and Linda Sledge and husband, David, of High Point; and numerous nieces and nephews-Cumby

Famous Church Transcribed and Photographed!

The Briles Information Network, in conjunction with the Randolph County Gen Web, is pleased to announce the transcription of a very famous church in Trinity, NC. Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, now called Mt. Pleasant Community Church, has been transcribed and photographed by R. Trent Briles. Mt. Pleasant is located at 4713 Cashatt Rd in Trinity and has over 280 grave markers. The process was done by visiting the site and photographing every marker in the cemetery. No other source was used! Death Notice: Mary Etta Trotter Crotts

ASHEBORO- Mary Etta Trotter Crotts, 86, passed Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. Graveside services 2:00 pm Friday, September 25, 2009, at Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church Cemetery; Rev. David Hunt officiating. Native of Randolph County; preceded in death by her husband, Elmore Crotts. Survivors include son, Billy Crotts and wife, Kathryn, of Asheboro, and sister, Elsie Hill, of Asheboro.-Ridge

Dr. James Briles Lineage Identified

The BIN has received an obituary from Kelly O'Keefe, who responded via the BIN Blogger, regarding the lineage of Dr. James Briles. Dr. Briles' wife, Kathleen Steely Briles, was murdered on August 3, 2009 in Florida. We have checked the death notice and are confident in the lineage, which will be posted to the databases today. Dr. Briles is the son of the late Iowa Senator, James Edward and Marilyn Lorene Tendall Briles. We appreciate Kelly for the death notice. The murder case is still under investigation. There are no suspects at this time.

Tosha Medlin Briles In the Paper!

Tosha Medlin Briles, wife of R. Trent Briles (Curator of the BIN) recently interviewed for a story in the Thomasville Times Newspaper in Thomasville, NC. Coincidentally her brother Derek Medlin was also interviewed for the same story. The article focused on working on Labor Day, specifically public service jobs. Tosha is the nurse manager of ICU at TMC and Derek is a battalion chief with Thomasville Fire Department You can view the entire article by clicking on this link.

Prices for Vital Records Increase!

The North Carolina Vital Records Unit has increased it's fee for research and making copies of records in the State of North Carolina. The new prices went into effect August 24, 2009 and will consist of the following:

Fee for a first copy of a vital record, or for conducting a search of the files for the record when no copy is made: $24


Fee for each additional copy requested from the same search: $15.


The new forms are available on the NC Vitals Site and remember Vital records are also available from the Register of Deeds in the county where the event took place. I would suggest you request a copy of an uncertified copy from the Register of Deeds(unless you need a certified copy), because the fee is nominal for uncertified copies of vital records. Briles Named New Davidson County Coordinator

Well, it's official! Effective September 1, 2009, I took on the task of running two very active counties in North Carolina. The Randolph & Davidson County Project will be under the coordination of me, Trent Briles. I look forward to running both counties and hope that I can continue to provide the best in genealogical information for visiting and researchers to the sites.
