MT. AIRY-Annie Mae Crotts Goins, 72, passedWednesday May 27, 2009 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday May 30, 2009 at Blackwater Community Church; Brother Ted Crotts, Brother Frank Danley and Brother Timmy Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Carroll County, Virginia on March 26, 1937 to the late Jonah and Patty Alice Rakes Crotts. Preceded in death by her husband Nathan "Pete" Goins; two sons, Ray and Ronnie Tate; a brother and three sisters. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Richard Caudill of Elkin and Debbie and Joe Howlett of Dobson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cheryl Tate of Elkin and Mike and Judy Tate of Mount Airy; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Frank Danley of Ararat; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex and Wanda Crotts, Jackie and June Crotts and Rev. Ted and Ann Crotts all of Mount Airy.-Moody

Addie Crotts Passes

ASHEBORO-Addie Marie Hancock Crotts, 92, passed Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Smyrna Grove Community Church, Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Grove Community Church cemetery. Native of Davidson County, preceded in death by her husband, David Crotts. Surviving are daughter, Nellie Marie Cole of Asheboro; son, Carlton Crotts of Asheboro; sister, Jesse Hancock of Thomasville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.-Ridge

Coach Jill Briles-Hinton Resigns

Coach Jill Briles-Hinton, University of Florida's Golf coach, has resigned from the program. Briles-Hinton has been coach of the Lady Gators since 1998 and played 12 years on the LPGA. The announcement came after the Lady Gators posted a 16th place finish in the NCAA East regional. The Gators advanced to the NCAA championships six times during her tenure, which included sixth-place finishes in 2002 and 2006. The Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in women's golf in 2008 cited wanting to spend more time with her family as the main reason for leaving the Gator program. The BIN does not have Jill's family lineage at this time, but we believe her lineage starts in Peoria, Illinois. The BIN wishes nothing but the best for Jill and her family!

Cameron Briles Scores Big!

Cameron Briles scored big today at the 1st Annual Briles Fishing Tournament at High Rock Lake in Southmont! Cameron caught ten fish including this monster, which sealed the title for her. Cami is the daughter of Rodney Trent and Tosha Medlin Briles and turned five years old in February. Cami has been fishing for years and turned pro last year at the Myrtle Beach, SC. Cami won the prize of her choice, which was strawberry ice cream; provided by her grandmother, Catherine Briles. Cami has decided to forgo the touring circuit choosing instead to stay home and play with her three dogs and pig named Pebbles. Way to Go Cameron, we love you!

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Forest Park Baptist Church in Randleman, NC; Pastor Jon Ferguson and Pastor Rusty Small officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memorial Park. Native of Randolph County, preceded in death by her parents, Glenn V. and Sadie Black Small, brothers, Dolan Small and Ralph Small, and sister, Mary Lou Briles. Survived by her husband, Dwight Kenneth Sumner of the home; sons, Chris Sumner and his wife Kim of Asheboro, NC, Eric Sumner and his wife Anita of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Zach Schwarz, Gregory Moore, Maxx Sumner, and Emily Sumner; great granddaughter, Clara Moore; sister, Pat Walker and her husband Bobby of Randleman, NC; brother, Jerry Small and his wife Donna of Appomattox, VA; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.-Pugh

Born October 5, 1923 in Davidson County to Lloyd G. Davis and Lena Crotts Davis. Surviving: her husband of 68 years, Ben Hollis Lomax of the home, sons, Gary Lomax and wife, Jody, Ricky Lomax both of Lexington, four grandchildren, Todd Lomax and wife, Melissa, Scott Lomax, Alan Lomax and wife, Mandy, and Shannon Yarbrough and husband, Josh; and six great-grandchildren.
