Vida Catherine McDowell Swaney
passed away July 22, 2014.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM at
the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor
Michael L. Orman officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Union
Community Church Cemetery. Preceded in death by her parents, Eli
Linville and Martha Pierce McDowell as well as her husband Roy Lee Swaney. Also her brothers, Ira, Dallas, George, Pearl, and Alvin McDowell and
sisters, Bernice Trotter, Exie Snider, Lois Staley, and Imogene Ridge. Surviving are four children, sons, Ronald Swaney (Sharon) and
Roger Swaney (Linda); daughters, Gail Burton (Clifton) and Sandra
Bodenheimer (Thad), all of Thomasville. She also loved and cherished
seven grandchildren, Crystal Christiansen (Elliot Everhart), Bradley
Burton (Martha), Misty Payne (Richard), Todd Bodenheimer (Amy), Tawana
Gee (Mark), Mark Swaney (Amber), and Greg Swaney. She was also blessed
with fifteen great-grandchildren, Nicholas Christiansen (Brionna), Kasey
Christiansen, Daxton Bodenheimer, Courtney Bodenheimer, Austin Gee,
Jacob Burton, Jenna Burton, Tyler Wimbley, Trevor Wimbley, Ashley
Swaney, Trey Swaney, Dylan Swaney, Chloe Swaney, Tyler Payne, and
Catherine Payne; two great-great grandchildren, Landon Christiansen and
Kayden Roberts. Also surviving is one brother, Casper McDowell and a
sister-in-law, Alene McDowell.

Funeral Home in Denton. Born April 24, 1946 in Forsyth County to Royce Reece
Pierce and Millie Frances Barnes Pierce. She was a retired employee of
Teleflex Company. She was married to Felix Hughes, Jr. who died in
1993. Survived by a daughter Lora Hughes of Denton; a son Ronnie Hughes
of Asheboro; brothers, Charles Pierce and Dolan Pierce both of
Thomasville; a sister, Louise Elberson of Thomasville; grandchildren,
Dustin Wayne Bailey and Justina Lynn Hughes; great grandchildren, Bladyn
Ray Bailey and Xander Felix Gage Bailey.

Survived by his cousins, Charles Bulla and wife, Ann, Virginia Lilly and husband, Earl, Grace Humble and husband, Harvey, Doris Bulla; special friends, Farrell Turner, Alvin Hoover, Susan Farmsworth, Ray Satterfield, David Kenyon, seven employees of the Mountain View Market, and faithful friend, “Bandit”. Veteran and Purple Heart recipient.
