Roy W. Crotts Passes

TRINITY-Roy W. Crotts, 88, passed Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the home of his son. Funeral 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church,; Rev. Beverly E. Gaska officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Born April 23, 1921, in Randolph County, son of the late William Thomas and Roanna Loflin Crotts. Preceded in death by his wife Rachel Osborne (m.Dec. 4, 1944) who passed on May 4, 2007; son, Garry W. Crotts, and 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his son, Michael Crotts and wife, Kathy, of Sophia; four grandchildren, Derick Crotts and wife, Kasey, Shanda Vickers and husband, Kevin, Chad Crotts and wife, Paige, and Brandon Crotts; six great-grandchildren, Seth and Ian Vickers, Emery and Maddie Crotts, and Kenyon and Cohen Crotts; and a brother, Reece Crotts of Archdale.-Cumby

Tooth Fairy Visits Cameron Briles

Well the Tooth Fairy has been busy around the Briles house lately. Cameron Briles has lost yet another tooth, this time a top one! Cami was excited this morning when she discovered the tooth missing. Cameron Briles, age 5, is the daughter of Rodney Trent and Tosha Medlin Briles. Cameron will celebrate the loss of the tooth by heading to the beach for summer vacation!

Great Father's Day!

What a great Father's Day our family had this past Sunday! Trent, Tosha, and Cami Briles visited Faith Baptist Church in Trinity with Paul Dickie Medlin and Shirley Hill. My parents Jim and Cathy Briles visited the Briles gravesite at Guilford Memorial Park in Jamestown, NC. Rex Briles , my grandfather, is buried there along with his parents Ernest and Cora Cain Briles and his brother Ralph Briles. They also went to Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, NC to visit the grave site of Carvey and Ivy Black Garrett, my grandparents. We then traveled down to High Rock Lake in Southmont to visit my parents, Jim and Cathy Briles who returned from visiting both cemeteries. The BIn hopes everyone had a great Father's Day!

2009 Rail Days in Spencer, NC

The 2009 Rail Days was held today at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. The annual event featured old rail cars, train rides, flight simulators, and other activities and a good time was had by all. The BIN entourage included Zachary Flowe, the tour guide and train enthusiast, Cameron Briles, Dickie Medlin, and Trent & Tosha Medlin Briles. The N.C. Cameron Briles Graduates!

Cameron Jewel Briles has graduated from Pre-School and is now on her way to 1st grade! Cameron graduated yesterday, May 21, 2009 from The Learning Place in Thomasville, NC. She is the daughter of Rodney Trent and Tosha Medlin Briles. Cameron will be attending school in Randolph County later in the fall. We love you Spoofy!

Mildred Smith Beck, 87, Passes

LEXINGTON-Mildred Smith Beck, 87, passed Friday, June 12, 2009, at Brian Center of Lexington. Wake is from 6 to 8p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Funeral is 3 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 at Midway United Methodist Church; Rev. John Woods. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born April 13, 1922, in Davidson County, to William Carl Smith and Hattie Crotts Smith. Preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jones Beck. Surviving are sons, Lowell Beck and wife, Vickie, and Clinton Beck and wife, Patricia, all of Lexington; daughter, Debra Light and husband, Keith, of Lexington; four grandchildren, Amanda Beck of Salt Lake City, Utah, Carrie Beck, Lauren Light, both of Lexington and Sarah Beck of Asheville; brothers, Ed Smith and wife, Mary, and Boyd Smith and wife, Kathleen, all of Lexington; and a sister, Arlene Smith of Lexington.-Davidson F.H.

Michael Briles Graduates

Well he did it! Michael Trent Briles has graduated from High School! Michael finished up his four years at Northwest High School in Guilford County and walked across the stage tonight at the graduation ceremonies. The ceremony took place at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center in Greensboro and was attended by Mike's family. Michael will work during the summer before attending UNCC in the fall. Congratulations Michael, We LOVE YOU!

Annie Mae Crotts Goins Dies

MT. AIRY-Annie Mae Crotts Goins, 72, passedWednesday May 27, 2009 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday May 30, 2009 at Blackwater Community Church; Brother Ted Crotts, Brother Frank Danley and Brother Timmy Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Carroll County, Virginia on March 26, 1937 to the late Jonah and Patty Alice Rakes Crotts. Preceded in death by her husband Nathan "Pete" Goins; two sons, Ray and Ronnie Tate; a brother and three sisters. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Richard Caudill of Elkin and Debbie and Joe Howlett of Dobson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cheryl Tate of Elkin and Mike and Judy Tate of Mount Airy; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Frank Danley of Ararat; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex and Wanda Crotts, Jackie and June Crotts and Rev. Addie Crotts Passes

ASHEBORO-Addie Marie Hancock Crotts, 92, passed Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Smyrna Grove Community Church, Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Grove Community Church cemetery. Native of Davidson County, preceded in death by her husband, David Crotts. Surviving are daughter, Nellie Marie Cole of Asheboro; son, Carlton Crotts of Asheboro; sister, Jesse Hancock of Thomasville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.-Ridge

Coach Jill Briles-Hinton Resigns

Coach Jill Briles-Hinton, University of Florida's Golf coach, has resigned from the program. Briles-Hinton has been coach of the Lady Gators since 1998 and played 12 years on the LPGA. The announcement came after the Lady Gators posted a 16th place finish in the NCAA East regional. The Gators advanced to the NCAA championships six times during her tenure, which included sixth-place finishes in 2002 and 2006. The Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in women's golf in 2008 cited wanting to spend more time with her family as the main reason for leaving the Gator program. The BIN does not have Jill's family lineage at this time, but we believe her lineage starts in Peoria, Illinois. The BIN wishes nothing but the best for Jill and her family!
