Dorothy Pierce Stanley Dies, Mother is Ila Briles

Dorothy Pierce Stanley, 96, of Liberty, died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at her residence.

The body will lie in repose from 8 AM until 5 PM on Wednesday, at the Loflin Funeral Home, and from 2 PM until 3 PM on Thursday, at Holly's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Holly's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Ramseur. Burial: Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

Dorothy was a native of Lee County and a longtime resident of Randolph County. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer H. Stanley, mother, Ila Maie Briles Pierce, and grandchildren, Jeannie, Alexis, Shane, Malik a sister and numerous brothers.

Survivors: daughters, Dianne Staley, of Staley, Betty Ledbetter, of Liberty, Margaret Johnson, of Staley, Brenda Stanley, of Snow Camp, sons, David Stanley, Wayne Stanley, Johnny Stanley, Butch Stanley, all of Liberty, seventeen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Lee "Ken" Briles Passes

Kenneth (Ken) Lee Briles of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away at the age of 81 on Friday, March 4, 2022. 

Memorial Service: 10 a.m., Saturday, March 19, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas. The family will be there to welcome friends and relatives. Interment: 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. 

Kenneth was born on October 21, 1940, in Francesville, Indiana, to Guy Fredrick Briles and Opal May Swihart Briles. Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. 

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Opal Briles, and his brothers, Dale and Bernie Briles. 

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Vance Briles; daughters, Pamela Boschetti, Janet Linehan and husband, Jeff; Kolleen Dominguez and husband, Eddie; sons, Kevin Briles and wife, Samantha; Dan Briles and wife, Karen; stepdaughter, Clarissa Lagow and husband Scott; sister, Linda Austin; grandchildren, Keela, Kynna, Mariah, Brahne, Lauren, Sianna, Kyle, Grayson, Abby, Alyssa and Kameron; and great-grandchildren, Kyan, Nicholas and Mia.

Oliver Emmett “Chuck” Childress

Oliver Emmett “Chuck” Childress, of Melrose, MA died March 4th, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA at the age of 77. No Funeral or wake were held at Mr. Childress’ request. Burial will be private.

Born in Herlong, CA, to the late Arthur and Mary (Briles) Childress. Mr. Childress was raised in Chariton, Iowa. U.S. Army for 25 years, Four Bronze Stars. Predeceased by his three brothers Roger, Mike and Steven.

Mr. Childress is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Hall) Childress, and his sons: Christopher & his wife Annette, Corey, and Craig & his wife Rachel. His five grandchildren: Christopher Jr., Lillian, Cassidy, Brooke, and Connor. Other family members include his parents, And his three sisters, Mary Ann, Toni, and Robin.

Delbert Eugene Turner Dies, Married to Evadene Juanita Briles


Delbert Eugene Turner, 85, Marion, passed Friday, March 4, 2022, at Marion Health. 

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, a service to celebrate Delbert's life will begin at 11:00 am, preceded by an additional hour of visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger will be officiating with burial taking place at Knox Cemetery.

He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Thursday, August 13, 1936, to Charles and Elsie (Haltom) Turner. On May 28, 1955, he married his loving wife, Evadene Juanita Briles, and she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Evadene Juanita Turner of Marion; daughter, Sheryl Shorten; sons, Dennis (Karen) Turner and Jerry (Tracy) Turner; grandsons, Brian (Sarah) Shorten, Eric (Brooke) Shorten, Craig (Amanda) Turner, Andrew (Kira) Turner, Austin Turner, and Tyler Sloan; granddaughters, Amanda Turner, Stacy (Tom) Lovell, Jessica Sloan, Ashley Beckham, and Kelli Sloan; great-grandsons, Mason, Mylam, Scott, Jackson, Wayd, Ryder, Clayton, and Korbin; and great-granddaughters, Hallie, Grace, Kandis, and Tegan.





Beverly Jean Etzel

Beverly Jean Etzel (Briles) was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Oct. 7, 1934. She passed away on Saturday March 5, 2022, in her home surrounded by family.

Services: 1p.m. Friday March 11, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at noon until service time. Pastor David Wagner will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Etzel; her son, Gary Dean Etzel; son-in-law, Brian J. Denny; parents, Ralph and Bertha Briles; and her brother, Ralph Briles Jr.

She was married to the love of her life, Robert G. Etzel, on July 3, 1959. She is survived by her son, Steve Etzel (Teresa); her daughters, Kim Etzel (John), Janine Wagner (Dave) and Maureen Denny; her grandchildren, Robert Diehl, Amy Kurt (Dylan), Gabe Etzel, Courtney Denny, Grace Ulmer (Kenan), Addison Maldonado and Noah Etzel; and two great-grandchildren, plus one on the way.

Eula Mae "Tootie" Hunt Trotter

Eula Mae "Tootie" Hunt Trotter, of Asheboro, died Friday, March 4, 2022 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Mountain View Independent Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member, with Rev. Clint Kearns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2022 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Born on December 2, 1944, in Randolph County, NC, Eula was the daughter of the late Oakle Hunt and Myrtle Miller Hunt.

In addition to her parents, Eula was preceded in death by her husband, William "Sonny" Trotter.

Surviving are her son, Rodney Trotter and wife Sherrie; sister, Louise Jarrell and husband, Bobby; brothers, Charles Hunt, Larry Hunt and wife Jean, Junior Hunt and wife Brenda; grandchildren; Shane Trotter, Cameron Trotter, Kathryn Trotter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
