Swap Meet Set!

The Genealogical Society of Davidson County will host a major genealogical Swap Meet on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 10am to 3pm. Currently, Societies from Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, and Randolph Counties have committed to participate as well as Lexington Library’s History Room. Becky Lassiter will also have a book on the Nifong family. The location of this event will be at the Robbins Recreation Center on Hargrave St in Lexington. The society is still seeking individuals or organizations who wish to share genealogical data. At this time, I'm trying to reschedule work so I can attend this very import meeting. Donald Eugene Norwood Passes (SK)

The Briles Information Network has received word of the passing of Donald Eugene Norwood, who passed July 30, 2009 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Mr. Norwood was married to Marlene Briles, daughter of the late Charleston and Moleta Kearns Briles. Below is her death notice for Mr. Norwood. The databases have not been updated to reflect this passing . Mr. Norwood was an amateur radio operator (W4HEQ) and now is a silent key (SK)

WEST JEFFERSON-Donald Eugene Norwood, age 64, passed Thursday morning, July 30, 2009 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, the Kinderton Chapel in Advance, NC; Rev. John Ferree and the Rev. Owen Peeler officiating. Born in Miami, Florida on Wednesday, August 9, 1944 to the late Charles Alfred and Frances Parish Norwood. Survived by his wife of 39 years, Marlene Briles Norwood; a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Norwood Fischer and husband, AJ, of Charlotte; a brother, Ron Norwood and wife, Jane, of Eden, NC; a grandson, Eric Fischer; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Edith Briles, of Asheboro; two nieces, and three nephews also survive.-Boone Family Funeral Home

Senator Ernest Briles Added to Famous Page

The Briles Information Network is proud to announce the addition of Kansas Senator Ernest Austin Briles to the Famous Briles Page. JoAnn Briles-Klein contacted the BIN in reference to Senator Briles and provided information regarding her lineage and that of Senator Briles. The late Senator is the son of the late Harrison & Susan Hall Briles. He was elected to the Kansas State Senate in 1940 and was a newspaper publisher in Stafford, Kansas. Senator Briles was married to Ada Cole and both are buried at Stafford Cemetery, in Stafford, Kansas. JoAnn Briles-Klein is the daughter of the late John Franklin Briles and Josephine Van Scoyk and resides in Kansas. Max Briles, brother to John Franklin Briles, was a avid genealogist. Max Briles genealogy research and information is used throughout the genealogy world and was a leading source for the Briles Surname!. Again, the BIN is honored to add Senator Ernrest Austin Briles to the Famous Briles Page! Hallie Hayworth Brower Passes

ARCHDALE-Hallie Hayworth Brower, 97, passed Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield. Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Springfield Friends Meeting; Rev. Ray Luther and Rev. Ralph Eanes officiating. Interment will follow in the meeting house cemetery. Born July 13, 1912 in Guilford County, daughter of the late John and Mary Hepler Hayworth. She is the sister to two Former Major League Baseball Players; the late Ray and Myron "Red" Hayworth. Preceded in death by her husband Albert Lee Brower on December 8, 1991 (m.April 22, 1935);three sisters, Regina Hayworth, Dovie Hayworth and Gertrude Macon, and five brothers, Henry Hayworth, Orvie Hayworth, Raymond Hayworth, Sr., Chester Hayworth, Sr., and Myron "Red" Hayworth, Sr. Survivors include her son, Donald L. Brower, Sr. and wife, Pat, of Archdale; her daughter, Mary B. Hamilton of Archdale; six grandchildren, Cindy Armfield and husband, Will, Donald L Brower, Jr. and wife, Vin, Allen L. Hamilton and wife, Karen, John D. Hamilton and wife, Tara, Mark E. Hamilton and wife, Carol, and Sandra H. Blackwell and husband, Billy; and eight great grandchildren, William Armfield, II, Dovie Ann Brower, Dillon Brower, Shane Hamilton, Claire Hamilton, Gage Hamilton, Cade Hamilton and Tanner Hamilton.-Cumby

New RSS Feed Added to the BIN

The Briles Information Network has added a RSS feed to the main site. What is a RSS Feed? RSS or "Rich Site Summary" is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many sites such as the BIN and quite often news blogs syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to visitors. RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web by posting updates to the site. It allows you to stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. Content on the BIN is automatically posted to the BIN BLOG and that's where the RSS will originate!

What do you need to view an RSS Feed

Viewing the BIN Feed is very simple. You will need a reader and yes most or all of them are FREE! The BIN recommends using Google Reader, Mozilla Firefox, MY Yahoo, and FEED Demon. We have tried all of the above and believe these are the best on the Internet.

How does RSS Feeds work

After you download or find a reader, come back to the BIN and look for this RSS logo or something similiar to it.

You can click on it or right click on it to retrieve the address of the feed. Simply put the RSS address into your reader and that's it! You now will receive updates for the BIN without having to visit the site. Example: Let say you visit ten genealogy sites a week and enjoy reading the content of those sites. Instead of visiting each of the sites individually, simply subscribe to their RSS feed and check your reader to see if the site has posted updates or added new material. Now of course, we encourage everyone to visit the BIN often to research our extensive databases of surnames. If you have any questions regarding the RSS feed, please contact us directly!

Major Update Complete!

The Briles Information Network has completed a major update to all of the databases, to include the death index. The database has now reached over 12, 000 names with over 4,600 marriages indexed. The update centered on Briles' in Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois. After reviewing several death certificates and census slides, we corrected several lineages around the 1870-1900 period for the Midwest area. We also added more lineages for the Kindley and McCain family to include the shooting death of Stephen Paul McCain. The research continues so stay tuned for more updates later in the year! Death Index

The Death Index is a vital part of the BIN. This spreadsheet contains family members who have passed and the BIN has verified their death personally. This index has now reached over 1418 names! The BIN verifies deaths by four different ways: Death Certificates, obituaries, photos of gravesite, or verification from a genealogist. This databases lists the name of the deceased, dates of birth and death, parents and spouse's name, location of the body, and what method the death was verified. In closing, we have these sources on hand here at the BIN.

Martha Nifong Perryman Passes

DAVIDSON COUNTY-Martha Perryman, 77 passed Sunday, July 12, 2009 at her home. Visitation: Tuesday July 14 from 7 to 9 PM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. Funeral service 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel; Rev. Michael Gates officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Missionary Alliance Church cemetery. Born August 13, 1931 in Davidson County to Walter and Addie Everhart Nifong; preceded in death by her husband Walter Rudolph Perryman; two brothers, Albert and Bill Nifong, two sisters, Pauline Head and Edna Mae. Surviving are four daughters; Trish Read and husband Brian of Winston-Salem Debbie Rowell and husband Charles of Monroe, Diane Smith and husband Freddie of Stanley and Becky Honeycutt and husband Keith of Concord; one son, Randy Perryman and wife Teresa of Midway; one brother, Franklin Nifong; two sisters, Wilma Cockman and husband Hulbert of Midway, Margaret Lanier and husband Joe of Advance; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.-Davidson F.H.

Adam Briles, Famous TV Producer

World Famous Television Producer Adam Briles has been added to the Famous Briles Page. Well, he was already on the page...we just added a picture, added some impressive bio notes, and gave him his own page! The BIN hopes to add his lineage to the databases soon.
