Virginia Kinley Hill Dies At Age 87

Archdale-Virginia Kinley Hill, 87, passed today, January 28, 2009 in the Wallburg Community. No funeral services are planned. Born September 10, 1921, in Randolph County, a daughter of Samuel and Queen Briles Kinley. On June 22, 1946 she married James (Bill) Hill who passed on May 12, 1996. Surviving is daughter and son in law, Ronda and James Anderson of Wallburg, and one grandson, Grant Anderson of Greensboro.-Cumby

John Wayne Crotts, 89, Passes

TRINITY-John Wayne Crotts, 89, passed January 27th, 2009 at High Point Regional Hospital. Wake: 6-8 pm Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in ArchdaleFuneral service 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting; Pastor Randall A. Quate officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born July 22nd, 1919 in Randolph County, a son to William Thomas and Roanna Loflin Crotts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Hill (m. 1942); three daughters, Doris Trotter of Archdale, Nadine Jones and husband Larry and Kay Bartlett and husband John of Trinity; two brothers, Roy Crotts of Trinity and Reese Crotts of Archdale; three granddaughters, Sonja Smith, Lynne Jones and Sarah Bartlett; and one great granddaughter, Hannah Smith.-Cumby

Born March 13, 1942, to Julia Kellam and Ralph H. Eanes Sr. Surviving are his wife, Cecelia Briles Eanes; a daughter, Andrea Eanes Randall; a son, Jeremiah Eanes; a son-in-law, Rick Randall; a granddaughter, Sylvia Randall; brothers, Ralph H. Eanes Jr. (Meredith), Carey Eanes (Kay), Robin Eanes (Susan) and George Eanes (Nancy); a sister, Julie Eanes Clinard (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews.

LEXINGTON, NC Luther Verne "Luke" Hill, 63, passed Sunday, January 19, 2009 at his home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 21 at Faith Missionary Alliance Church; Revs. Michael Gates and Albert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Born December 10, 1945 in Davidson County to the late Percy Lee Hill and Catherine Crotts Hill. His brother, Norman Hill, and his sister, Belle Lanier, preceded him in death. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Janie Nifong Hill of the home; his son, an employee of WBFJ radio, Verne Hill and wife, Paula, of Midway; his granddaughters, Bailey Hill and Mariah Hill; his god-daughter, Danielle Byrd of Lexington; his brother, Fred Hill of Arcadia; his sisters, Margaret Ashby and husband, Frank, of Arcadia, and Barbara Hege of Lexington and his special in-laws, Bob and Linda Crisp.-Davidson F.H.

UPLAND — Paul J. Keller, 90, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday in Marion General Hospital.

He was born in Warren the son of the late James E. and Etta May (Click) Keller.

He was a 1936 graduate of Warren High School.

Mr. Keller served as a Military Police Officer First Lt. in the Army from 1943-1946.

He married Pat (Campi) on Oct. 24, 1957. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1994. He married Viola (Hizer) Briles on Aug. 29, 1998, in Upland. She survives.

Paul formerly owned and operated General Electronics 1972-1991, also prior to that Keller’s Cut Rate, both in Upland. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier after 27 years.

He attended the Upland Friends Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #138, Upland.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; son, Tom (Paula) Keller, Upland; daughter, Pamela Jean Tribolet, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Joshua, Derrick, Ashley, Courtney; step sons, Larry (De) Briles, Jerry (Wanda) Briles, both Upland; and step grandchildren, David, Susan, Leigh, Aaron, Daniel, Jennifer; 10 great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.

A brother, Claud, preceded him in death.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in Jones-Smith Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland with the Rev. Curt Blasiman officiating. Interment is in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland.

Preceded in death by her father and mother, Alex and Zula Briles; her son, William Starr; and three sisters. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Carol Starr, of Seattle, WA; daughter, JoAnn Poysky, of Kirkland, WA; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Born January 1st, 1917 in Randolph County, a daughter to Thomas and Roanna Loflin Crotts. Preceded in death by her husband, James Robert in 2004. Also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Surviving is a daughter, Doris Cromer and husband Tommy of Trinity; two grandchildren, Teresa Johnson and husband John of Trinity and Tony Cromer and wife Lora of Trinity; four great grandchildren, Christy Alley and husband Will of Norfolk VA, Amanda Austin and husband Daniel of Archdale, Jennifer Cromer of Trinity and Kellie Johnson of Trinity; one great great grandchild, Owen Robert Alley and three brothers.-Cumby

Jim Brown officiating. Born May 19, 1921, in Randolph County, N.C., a son of the late William Harrison Briles Sr. and Alberta Lassiter Briles. Preceded in death by a sister, Essie Briles Walker; two brothers, Ernest M. Briles and Garland W. "Tang" Briles; and a niece, Judy Faye Walker. Survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Bailey Briles of Hurt; brother-in-law, Robert T. Walker Sr., of Hurt; two nephews, Ronald C. Briles and Robert T. "Bobby" Walker Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Hurt; and one niece, Nancy Walker Dalton and her husband, Aaron, of Richmond.

Graveside Service was held on Dec. 29 at the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty; Pastor David Wester officiated. Born on January 7, 1918, in Backus, Minn. to the late William Harry and Carrie (Robinette) Elyea. Preceded in death by her husband, George Briles; daughter, Geraldine Diehl; three brothers, and one sister.
