Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Myra Ward and Rev. Jack Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion UMC Cemetery. Born on January 25, 1938 in Davidson County to the late Lamont Hooks and Sylvia Sieglar Hooks; preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Hulin Jarrett, one brother, and one sister. On July 4, 1954, she married James Junior Hulin, who survives of the home; also surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Curry and husband Marvin of Trinity, Jamie Tucker and husband Lloyd of Thomasville, and Cindy Rose and husband Joey of Archdale; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Sloane Briles has pleaded guilty to assault on January 10, 2012. Briles, 35 and an ex-Marine, received three years probation and must report to rehab by the end of the week. If Briles fails to complete his six months in a Veterans Administration residential treatment program, he will have to serve six months in county jail for the felony count of child abuse and endangerment. Briles was charged with felony assault for tossing his 7 year old son off of a 42-foot tour boat in Santa Ana, California last August. Born in Davidson County, on September 21, 1929, a daughter to the late Fred Eugene and Lillian Beck Smith. Michael Briles is the son of Rodney Trent Briles (Curator of the BIN) and Jeanne Linnane Rayne. Braylin weighed in at 8 lbs. 9 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches in length!

The baby, mother & daddy are doing fine. This is the first grand baby for our Briles Family! Great grand parents, James Rex & Catherine Cameron Briles were at the hospital as well! We are so proud of Mikey & Sydney and wishing nothing but the best for them and the new addition to our family! We love you!!!

Keeping with tradition of reporting the good, the bad, and the ugly news...yet another Briles has landed in the clink! This one hits closer to home, but we intend on being fair and balanced when it comes to family information. Reitzel Alan Briles Jr. was arrested Tuesday, September 27, 2011 for a variety of drugs charges in Asheboro, NC along with Tracey Smith. Official charges for Briles is maintaining a dwelling place for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of trafficking in marijuana, however the bond was set low at $7,500. Smith's bond was set at $500.

It's been a busy month for Briles in the news. Earlier this month, Sloane Briles was charged with child endangerment for tossing his son off of a touring boat! We can't control what our kids do after they leave the nest so we shall provide this link if you want to view Reitzel's lineage and we hope he receives due and fair process!

Ok folks I've waited two days before posting this story which has made national news. When I first saw the story I immediately checked the databases, Rootsweb, and other sources to see what lineage Sloane Briles came from and to find out the true story. Everyone, including Briles, is innocent till proven guilty in a court of law and I even reached out to Sloane on Facebook with no response...I guess the BIN is low on the talk circuit list!

Briles is accused of tossing his 7 year old son off of a 42-foot tour boat in Santa Ana, California. With multiple witness and a confession from Briles, it's hard to imagine what the hell he was thinking...and for the record, I'm not sure if I want to know what line Briles originated from! Clara Ruth Briles, 91, of DeKalb, passed away Saturday, May 7, under the tender care of the DeKalb County Hospice at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, DeKalb. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5, in the Hearthside Room in the Visitors' Center of the Ellwood House, 509 W. First St.,, DeKalb. Preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Pierce Wilson II, Travis Hudson Wilson I, Ida Gertrude Krebs, Charlotte Josephine Cochran, Sarah Elizabeth Quinlan and Jesse Rodman Wilson Sr.; and her brothers-in-law, Connally Oran Briles, Van Gordon Briles and Jack David Briles.

Born Nov. 9, 1919, in Riverside, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, Ruth was the daughter of Robert Pierce and Ida (Hightower) Wilson. She married Worthie Elwood Briles on June 6, 1941, in Austin, Texas, while the two of them were attending the University of Texas. Later that summer, Ruth and Elwood received their Bachelors of Arts degrees in zoology from UT. They then went to the University of Wisconsin at Madison to begin work on their advanced degrees. However, those efforts were set aside so that Elwood could serve in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

Following World War II and the births of their first two children (Susan and David), Ruth and Elwood returned to Madison where they received their advanced degrees in immunogenetics in 1948 (Ruth: M.S., Elwood: Ph.D.). The family then moved to College Station, Texas, where Elwood was a faculty member in the Poultry Science Department at Texas A&M and where their younger daughter Sara was born. After the family moved to DeKalb in 1957, Ruth worked with Elwood at the DeKalb Agricultural Association as a research associate in immunogenetics research from 1958-1968. From 1968-1970, Ruth was an Instructor in biological sciences at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. From 1970-2000, Ruth again worked with Elwood, this time as a research associate for immunogenetics research in the Biology Department at NIU. On October 9, 2004, Elwood and Ruth were recognized for their contributions to avian genetics by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Ruth was active in the American Association of University Women, volunteered at the Ellwood House and served for several years as the superintendent of the Sunday school at First Congregational Church in DeKalb. She is survived by her husband, Elwood; children, Susan Marie (Duane) Kniebes of Boulder, Colo., David Elwood (Marilyn Crain) Briles of Birmingham, Ala. and Sara (Richard Briles Moriarty) Briles of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Dustin Lincoln (Dana Churness) Briles Moriarty of Herbster, Wis., Rachel Florence (fiance Duy Hoang) Briles of Austin, Texas and Travis Crain Briles of Boulder, Colo.; step-grandchildren, Linda (Kniebes) Kozak and Carrie (Steve) Swift (Kniebes) of Lisle, Ill. and Van Kniebes of Boulder; great-grandchildren, Wylder Lee and Olin Elwood Moriarty of Herbster; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews, including especially nephews, Jesse Rodman Wilson Jr. (Cathy) of Cold Springs, Nev., Hal (Claudia) Cochran of West Covina, Calif., Dale (Jacqueline) Cochran of San Clemente, Calif. and Roy (Therese) Krebs of Alexandria, Va.

ARCHDALE – Mrs. Sarah Voncile Turner Foster, age 78, passed Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at her residence. Services will be Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 11 AM in the J. C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Norman Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park in High Point. Born on March 1, 1933, in Randolph County, the daughter of the late Ernest Turner and Josie Wall Turner. She was married to Billy Foster who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Holt, and two brothers, Wendle Turner and Dalton Turner. Survived by four daughters, Cecilia Beck and companion Terry Hepler of Winston-Salem, Diane Freedle of Lexington, Patricia Freeman and husband Timothy and Brenda Williamson and husband Larry, all of Trinity; four sons, Michael Beck and wife Darlene, Andy Beck and wife Michelle, all of Lexington, Jimmy Foster of High Point, and Michael Foster of Trinity; one sister, Willoneese Jordan of Thomasville; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and her devoted dachshund, Tadpole.

Elmer Joe Hoover, 97, of Trinity died April 22, 2011 at his home. A cryptside service will be conducted Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum by the Reverend Jeff Martin. There will be no visitation. Born September 8, 1913 in Randolph County the son of Latta E. Hoover and Millicent Walker Hoover. Preceded in death by his wife, Luna Morris Hoover on December 30, 2005 (m. June 10, 1933). Surviving are a son, Van Hoover and his wife Betsy of Sophia, grandson Ray Hoover of Trinity, and granddaughter Susan Simmons and husband Ron of Trinity and three great grandchildren Meka Hoover, Josh Simmons and Cheyann Simmons.
