Harriet Powers Briles

ANGOLA - Harriet Powers Briles, age 95, passed away May 14, 2015 at Cameron Woods Assisted Living Center in Angola, Indiana after a short illness. Per her wishes, there will be no calling. Private graveside services and burial will be in the New Palestine Cemetery. Born on October 8, 1919, in Greenfield, Indiana, she was the daughter of James B. and Hazel (Parnell) Powers. She married Paul R. Briles on October 12, 1946 who passed in 1976. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and James Huber of Fremont, IN and grandson, John Huber and his wife, Katie, of Franklin, NY, several nieces and nephews and their families. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and two sisters, Amy Roney and Ruth Louise Powers.

Wilda Mae Briles Kearns Dies

Wilda Mae Briles Kearns, 84, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro with Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Born in Randolph County on May 30, 1930 to Roland Alvah and Wilda Kathryn "Kate" Winningham Briles; preceded in death by her husband Fred Martin Kearns. Survived by her daughter, Karen Trollinger and husband Tom of Asheboro; son, Martin Kearns and wife Beth of Asheboro; grandchildren, Caroline Trollinger of Asheboro, Lindsay Poe and husband Jeff of Liberty, Lauren Trollinger, William Kearns, and George Kearns all of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Hunter Wilson, Cameron Norton, and Angel Palma all of Asheboro, Jackson, Benjamin, and Emma Poe all of Liberty; and her faithful companion, her dog Max.  

Roland Briles is the brother of Ernest Michael Briles, great grandfather of R. Trent Briles, curator of the BIN.

William Paul Briles Dies

William Paul Briles passed away peacefully May 1, 2015 in Largo, FL. Born June 11, 1950 to the late Wallace E. Briles and Gladys Hill Briles. He is survived by loving wife Rita, sons Glenn, Dennis and daughter Adrienne. Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater, Florida.


Linvel Edward Pierce Dies

Linvel Edward Pierce, 81, a resident of W. Holly Hill Road, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at High Point Regional Hospital. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 11 AM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Edward Lecates officiating. Born in Thomasville, March 28, 1934 a son of Everett Pierce and Cora Morris Pierce and was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. On August 29, 1965 he was married to Miss Barbara Barnes who survives of the home. Also surviving is a son, Mark Pierce of Greensboro; two sisters, Margie Wilson and Panzie Decker, both of Thomasville; and his faithful canine buddy “Chyann” who was left to Linvel after his brother Glenn’s death.
