Christopher Van Freedle, 34, passed Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Beulah United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Born October 10, 1978, in Davidson County, to Horace Van Freedle and Wanda Diane Beck Hindahl. Briles, Baylor Crushes #17 UCLA in Holiday Bowl

Baylor Bears showed there is life after RG3, coming to play and to win in their third straight bowl game! Baylor Bears, lead by Head Coach Art Briles, blasted the # 17 UCLA Bruins 49-26 last night in the Holiday Bowl played in San Diego. Baylor (8-5) won its final four games and five of six while UCLA fell to 9-5 losing it's final three games. Baylor Bears quarterback Nick Florence completed 10 of 13 passes for 188 yards, giving him 4,309 for the season to break RG3's school record of 4,293 set in 2011. Lache Seastrunk rushed 16 times for 138 yards and one score for the Baylor Bears. Coach Briles is the son of the late Dennis Ray & Wanda McCain Briles who died in a car wreck in 1976. Coach Briles is married to Jan Allison. Congrats to Coach Briles and the Baylor Bears on their fine bowl win!

Evelyn Ruth Briles Dies

Evelyn Ruth Briles of Plano, formerly of Idalou and Lubbock, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the age of 81. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou with the family receiving friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Idalou with interment to follow at the Idalou Cemetery. Born January 15, 1931 in Oklahoma City, OK to the late Algia and Verbia (Wright) Andrews. She married W. G. Briles, Jr. in February of 1947 in Tahoka. Surviving is one son, Terry Lee Briles of Princeton, Texas; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Mickelson of Plano; one sister, Joyce McMillan of Lafayette, Colorado; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, W. A. Andrews; and one son, Bruce Briles.

Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.Born on March 1, 1922 in Davidson County to Albert Reid Hepler and Claudie Scarlett Hepler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold Wayne Duncan; brothers, Fred, Hollis, and Eugene Hepler; and sisters, Linda McGee and Edna Sowers. Betty Briles Yates, age 70, of Trinity, NC (Jackson Creek Community), died Saturday, December 15 at her residence. Ruth Sharpe Phillips, 91, passed December 15, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Forsyth County. A celebration of her life will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Beulah United Church of Christ in Welcome with the Rev. Michael Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall before the service and burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery. Born on March 26, 1921 to the late Overman Klutz Sharpe and Ola Arteal Hepler. Survived by her daughters, Donna K. Tesh (G. W.) of Lexington and Barbara K. Adams (Chuck) of Hickory N.C. She is also survived by two sisters Nell S. Clifton (George) of Thomasville, NC and Mary Jo Tysinger of Chapel Hill, N.C. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husbands Stokes S. Koontz and Kenneth Phillips; her son Dalton K. Koontz and a sister, Rita S. Curry. Kenneth Phillips children are Dianne Phillips Campbell of Lexington, James Kenneth Phillips (Janie) of Clemmons, Michael Ira Phillips (Gail) of Winston-Salem and Joseph Farabee Phillips (Karin) of Charlotte. Born April 30, 1923 in Davidson County to John Ollie Crotts and Maggie Bell Sidden Crotts. She was married to Paul Thomas Jermane who preceded her in death. Cleo Mable Briles Hasten was born on January 20, 1919 in Italy, TX to the late Ciscero and Lela Mae (Scarbrough) Briles. She married Roland Clifton Hasten on December 18, 1935 in Italy, TX; he preceded her in death on September 6, 1996. Survived by Daughters-June Bicknell and husband Harold of Bonham, TX; Rita Willis and husband Charles of Westminster, TX; and Sue Elliott of Frisco, TX; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Born in Randolph County, a son to the late Joseph Walter Farlow, Sr. and Edna Millicent Farlow Farlow. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Stanley, James and Roy Farlow, four sisters, Margaret F. Davis, Verda Farlow, Clarece Farlow and Martha F. Robert Donald Loflin Dies

LEXINGTON – Robert Donald Loflin, 79,passed Sunday, December 2, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 PM at Community Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Workman and the Rev. John Harmon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Born in Davidson County, May 10, 1933 a son of Alleb Leon (Bud) Loflin and Maggie Reid Loflin. On August 23, 1952 he was married to Miss Mae Bundy who survives of the home. Preceded in death by a son, Robert Harold Loflin, a sister, Betty Snider, and by a brother, Billy Loflin. Also surviving are two sons, Tony Loflin, Sr. and his wife Sandra and Eddie Dean Loflin, both of Silver Valley; two sisters, Janet Nance of Lexington and Dorothy Skeen of Denton; four grandchildren, Casey Younts, Tony Loflin, Jr., Brittani Loflin, and Meghan Loflin.

His Brother: Billy Madison Loflin age 75, of Denton died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Kindred Hospital. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 18 at Lineberry United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Kelly Creekmur. Born May 20, 1937 in Davidson County to Allen Leon Loflin and Maggie Reid Loflin; preceded in death by a sister; Betty Snider. Survivors include; his wife of 55 years Shirley Jones Loflin, sons; Keith Loflin and wife Julie of Denton, Kevin Loflin of Denton, daughters; Mitzi Hamby and husband Rocky of Denton and Sheila Loflin of Denton, brother; Robert Loflin of Lexington, sisters; Dorothy Skeen of Denton and Janet Nance of Lexington, grandchildren; A.
