Margaret Hoover Peeler Dies

Margaret Hoover Peeler, 91, passed Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Reverend Matt Farabow and the Reverend Richard Howle officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Born on February 24, 1920 in High Point to the late Cossie Wayman Hoover and the late Addie Wood Hoover. Surviving are her children, Becky Sue Stafford of Wilmington, and “Mickey” Peeler and his wife Dianne of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Michael Dwayne Peeler and his wife Mandy of California, Darin Stafford and his wife Lou, and Anna Maria Peck and her husband Brian; six great grandchildren, Davis Michael Peeler, Jacqueline Dianne Peeler, Evelyn Trinity Peck, Amelia Kristian Peck, Hannah Grace Stafford, and Allie Elizabeth Stafford; and one sister-in-law, Frances Hoover of Lexington.

Lucy Idell Richardson Pierce, 81, died Friday, February 17, 2012 at her residence. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 11 A.M. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Bishop Benjamin M. Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5-7 P.M.Born February 25, 1930 in Horry County, S.C. a daughter of Harley Wesley Richardson and Lucy Ann Hearl Richardson. She was married to Austin R. Pierce, who preceded her in death. Surviving are sisters, Corine Lamb and Rosa Parrish, both of Thomasville and several nieces and nephews.

Rafael Francis “Ray” Hill Passes

HIGH POINT-Rafael Francis “Ray” Hill, 76 of High Point passed away Wednesday, February 15th at High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday in the Berean Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Baity officiating. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm (one hour prior to the service) at the church. Native of Guilford County, Ray was born August 7th, 1935 and had been a resident of this area most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace Carter Blair and Marqious Merdith Blair(NOTE: father is Andrew Jackson Hill Jr.). Surviving are his wife of twenty nine years, Betty Sue Beck Hill of the home; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Royal and Charlie Carroll of Kernersville and a host of nieces and nephews.

Clata Virginia Farlow Hardin, 84, Dies

SOPHIA-Clata Virginia Farlow Hardin, 84, resident of Sophia, passed February 15th, 2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Sophia Baptist Church with Rev. Bill V. Barnes officiating. Entombment will follow at Randolph Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Born November 17th, 1927 in Randolph County, a daughter to the late Lawrence and Blanche Hill Farlow. Her husband, Grady Hardin, preceded her in death on October 10th, 2003. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded by a brother, Raeford Farlow and a sister, Clarice McDowell. Surviving is a son, Darrell L. Hardin of Sophia; two daughters, Phyllis Hardin of Asheboro and Karen Hardin Snyder and husband Rusty of Asheboro; four sisters, Virgie Coltrane of Sophia, Pauline Allred of Asheboro, Wilma Cook of Asheboro and Earline Taylor of Sophia; and a grandson, Cory Reece Snyder of Asheboro.

Rev. Stephen Laurin Welborn Dies

Rev Stephen Laurin Welborn, 62 of High Point passed Wednesday February 15, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church in Trinity with Rev. Paul Welborn and Dr. Howard Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 17 from 6 to 8 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale Born on May 28, 1949 to the late A. Laurin Welborn and Lucille Madaris Welborn. On July 27, 1969 he married and is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy Welborn. Survived by one child: Paul and wife Nan Welborn of Trinity. Also surviving is one grandson, Joseph Laurin Welborn; his sister Sylvia and husband Michael Kranish of Silver Spring, MD, and brother, Kenneth Welborn of High Point. Kenneth’s wife Denise preceded in death; two nieces, Jessica & Laura Kranish.

Wilma Jean Snider Smith, 70, passed Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Davie Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Darren Crotts. Born in Davidson County on July 14, 1941, she was the daughter of Raymond Lawrence Snider and Pearl Marie Keaton Snider. Survived by her husband of 51 years, Dallas Smith; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee S. and Mark Howell; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Wayne and Cathy Foster Smith; a sister, Geraldyne Snider (Albert) Gosnell of Houston, Texas; a brother, Jerry Raymond (Marie) Snider of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Renee Howell and Trevor Wesley Smith.

A funeral service will be held 2pm, Friday, February 17th at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, with Mr. Brian Donley and Mr. Randy Quate officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 16th from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home. Born June 29, 1923, in Randolph County a daughter of the late Walter and Martha Crotts Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wayne Crotts and a brother, Gilbert Hill. Survived by three daughters, Doris Trotter of Archdale, Nadine Jones and her husband, Larry, and Kay Bartlett and her husband John all of Trinity; four brothers, Jack D. Hill and his wife Tiney of Virginia, Lloyd Hill and his wife Bernice of Lexington, Homer Hill and Leonard Hill both of Trinity; two sisters, Maxine Coltrane of Asheboro and Elizabeth Enyart and her husband, John of ST. Lucie, FL; one sister in law, Euvenia Hill of Asheboro; three granddaughters, Sonja Smith, Lynne Jones, and Sarah Bartlett; and one great granddaughter, Hannah Smith.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Native of Randolph County, NC, born May 8, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Lee Gordon and Lillie Mae Hicks Gordon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Kearns. Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, February 9th at Faith Baptist Church in Trinity at 2:00 pm, with grandson, Paul Welborn officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Cemetery.Born on August 14, 1923, to the late Laurin Bingham Welborn and Zeffie Hunt Welborn. Preceded in death by his brothers Thurman (Red) Welborn and Clyde Welborn. Surviving, his wife Lucille Madaris Welborn; three children: Stephen and wife Kathy Welborn of Trinity, Sylvia and husband Michael Kranish of Silver Spring, MD, and Kenneth Welborn of High Point. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Paul Welborn, Jessica Kranish, Laura Kranish, and one great-grandchild, Joseph Welborn, his sister, Hazel Saunders and her husband Darrell.

John Henry Skeen, 93 of Trinity passed Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Hospice Home at High Point. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Trinity Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Faye Herbin officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Born May 5, 1918 in Trinity he is a son of the late Thomas Matthew Skeen and Angie Wall Skeen; preceded in death by his wife Nelva Myers Skeen in 2003. He is survived by four children: Nancy Reed of Thomasville, Hallie Jessup and husband Terry of Jamestown, Stanley Van Skeen and wife Cathy of Swannanoa and Emily Bish of Banner Elk. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Emily Hughes, Loretta Weese, Matthew Skeen, Lucy Skeen, Jennifer Dosher, Cade Jessup and six great grandchildren; Scott Loflin, Angel Weese, Mattison Skeen, Carter John Skeen, Will Dosher and Halle Claire Dosher and many loving nieces and nephews.
