Charles Dalton Briles Dies

Charles Dalton Briles, 82, passed in Throckmorton, Texas, November 17, 2011. Services was held at the Church of Christ at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 in Throckmorton with Royce Priddy and Greg Melton officiating. Burial followed at the Rule Cemetery. Born December 8, 1928 in Rule to the late George and Comer (Felton) Briles. He married Joyce Marie McLennan in Texarkana, Texas on January 5, 1951. Survived by his wife, Joyce Briles of Throckmorton; two sons Steve Briles and wife Debbie of Crowley, TX and Keith Briles and wife Katrina of Throckmorton; daughter, Charlotte Norman and her husband Les of Throckmorton; 6 grandchildren, Bridget, Hayley and Heidi Briles, Jerrad and Sam Norman, and Marissa Briles Henson and husband Kale of Stephenville, Texas; two brothers, Earnest and Derral Briles of Odessa, Texas; a sister, Doris Carroll of Weinert, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, George Abreham and Comer Irene Briles; and one brother, Dennis Briles and his wife Wanda.

Jake Briles Passes

OKEECHOBEE - Jake Briles, 89, of Okeechobee, passed away Nov. 20, 2011, at Hospice of Okeechobee. No services. Burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana. Born on Dec. 20, 1921, in Loveington, IN to the late Bernard E. & Mary Hall Briles. Preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Woodland Briles; and one daughter, Sharon Louise Briles. He is survived by one daughter, Delores "Dilly" Perryman of Lebanon, Ind.; two grandchildren, Joe and Tina; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Garry Von Crotts Dies

Garry Von Crotts, age 55, passed Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Rex Health Care in Raleigh. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery; Rev. David Hunt officiating. Born in Randolph County on August 21, 1956 to Ernest and Ella Hancock Crotts, who preceded him in death. Survived by his sister, Evelyn C. Smith of Asheboro, NC; brother, Donald Crotts and his wife Ruth of Asheboro, NC; niece, Michelle Scearce and her husband Lee of Elizabeth City, NC; nephews, Nathan Crotts of Asheboro, NC and Eric Crotts and his wife Camille of Charleston, SC.

Bettie Sue Smith Lawrence Dies

TRINITY – Mrs. Bettie Sue Smith Lawrence, 82, of Trinity, passed Saturday, November 12, 2011, at High Point Regional Cancer Center. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 16th, at 2 pm in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Danny Bank officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 pm Wednesday, prior to the service. Born in Davidson County, on September 21, 1929, a daughter to the late Fred Eugene and Lillian Beck Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Lawrence, Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Lawrence Spencer and husband, Doug and B.J. Lawrence; two sons, Charles Wesley Lawrence, III and wife, Debbie and Kimball Lee Lawrence; a brother, Jarrell Smith; two sisters, Martha Pennington and Julia Burgess; and a granddaughter, Melanie Litton and many friends.

Jacques L. Beck Passes

Jacques L. Beck, 89, passed Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at University Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St., Augusta, Ga., by Pastor David Hunter. Mr. Beck is the son of the late Wesley Odell & Mary Callahan Beck. Survivors include son David Earl Beck; daughter Linda Beck Smith; daughter-in-law Elaine Beck; four grandchildren, David W. Beck and Kacy, Jackie and Rob Smith; great-granddaughter Chloe Kira Wolfson; brother Ned Beck; and nieces and nephews.

Hazel Skeen Ennis Dies

Hazel Lee Skeen Ennis, age 89, of Asheboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at High Point Regional Hospital. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home, 908 Albemarle Road, on Friday evening, November 11, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at West Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Outen and Rev. Lee Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Born September 24, 1922, in Asheboro to the late Herbert and Nannie Poole Skeen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Britt, Clifford and J.D. Skeen, and her husband, Clarence Ennis. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Robert Whitehorne, of High Point; her grandchildren, Andrew Whitehorne and Kathryn Whitehorne and her fiancé, Cory Duncan, all of Raleigh; her brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Eva Skeen of Robbins; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Callie Scarlett Skeen Passes

Callie Scarlett Skeen, 87, of Archdale passed away Monday, November 7th, 2011 at High Point Regional. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, November 10th at Springfield Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby Loving officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Wednesday, November 9th at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. Born November 19, 1923 a daughter to the late Sam Scarlett and Bessie Beck Scarlett in Thomasville, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph T. Skeen, Sr., sister, Lois Shaw, and a great granddaughter, Lakeya. Survived by three children, Becky S. Owens of High Point, Shannon Skeen Cinque and husband, Joseph of Cliffside Park, NJ, and John Skeen and Loretta Erdman of Staley, four grandchildren Scarlett and husband Andy, Sherri, Josh and wife Katie, and April; four great grandchildren, Marcus, Michael, Madison, Rose and one great great grandson, Cameron.

No direct line to Briles. Family member Enos Skeen married Winnie Briles.

Joel Pierce Wins Council Seat

Joel Pierce has won a seat on the Thomasville City Council by a decisive margin! Pierce gained 12% of the vote or 1,440 votes and came in second to front runner former police chief Ronald Bratton who was an incumbent. Joel Pierce is a Briles descendant, twice! He is the son of Nolan Irvin & Bonnie Grubb Pierce. His lineage dates back to Ansel & Mary Briles Pearce (Mary, Frederick Briles, Conrad Briles) and through his grandmother's family, Millie Barnes Pierce. Her line also goes back to Conrad & Margaret Rush Briles because her grandparents are Henry and Elizabeth Kindley Barnes (Elizabeth Kindley, Jacob, William, Shadrach and Margaret Briles Kindley, Michael Briles, Conrad Briles). Birth of Braylin Montana Briles!

Michael & Sydney Harding Briles would like to announce the birth of Braylin Montana Briles! Braylin was born today at 749 a.m. In Thomasville, NC. Michael Briles is the son of Rodney Trent Briles (Curator of the BIN) and Jeanne Linnane Rayne. Braylin weighed in at 8 lbs. 9 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches in length!

The baby, mother & daddy are doing fine. This is the first grand baby for our Briles Family! Great grand parents, James Rex & Catherine Cameron Briles were at the hospital as well! We are so proud of Mikey & Sydney and wishing nothing but the best for them and the new addition to our family! We love you!!!
